Any labels that you've started with then found what a goldmine of soul it is? Better known labels aside.- Most Collected Labels
There you go. I knew there was some point to this thread. Good to get people talking about records as well as which nighter/non nighter is great! Kev- Most Collected Labels
'a bit of a nut' doesn't come close there Steve-You still got all those or have you been tempted to sell off bits here and there? Also which direction does your current obsession lie?- Most Collected Labels
If everything was listed in JM's guide you'd need a wheelbarra to move the thing about. I've a few items I'm sure he says were never issued.???? Good luck in tracking those ellusive ones down. Kev- Most Collected Labels
Also not just thinking of more well known labels and artists. I've a thing about Hep me lable at the moment and have started with some Bobby Powell items.- Most Collected Labels

Good luck with those last few. Wonder what makes you stick to a label. For me it's usually finding a few things on it then searching for more. I tend to rein in my obsetion when I hit a few bum ones and redirect my attention elsewhere. Also amount of cash flow is a consideration. Also wondering if anyone has a complete collection/discogrophy for Fortune records out of Detroit. Could make a good story if itn hasn't been done yet.- Most Collected Labels
Labels do look fantastic when you put them together. I'm on the Carnival at the moment and w/d Motown. Also wondering which artists get collected the most. Once had a collection of about 4T Ted taylor records that eventually went to a collector from Belgium. Never managed to finish a discography yet. I'd love a complete Palmer one.- Most Collected Labels
Sorting through the collection I just got to wondering how other people collect. I and others I've known over the years have had little pet projects when collecting. Some go for Thelma or Golden World others Carnival or Dore. My question is which labels are included in your pet projects? Come on put on your anoracks. Kev- Had A Rite Go At Tamala Lewis

Love the Brrrrrrrrrrrr in GMJALMT wish I could do it been trying all my life to no avail.- Northern Attendances In The 70s
. Also there was a run of 'crossover' Northern Soul hits like "Hey Girl Don't Bother Me" - The Tams (No.1 in '71) "There's A Ghost In My House" (No.3 in '74) and even "You Sexy Sugar Plum" - Rodger Collins (No.22 in '76) which means that a lot of people bought the records - at least 250,000 in the case of the Tams and R. Dean Taylor but whether they could be considered fans is another question. I remember when I started nighters as a toung shy 15 year old and started to attend the Casino although aware of things like Cool Off-Billy Prophet-Tomangoes etc.. the top tunes in my head were re-issue of Little Anthony-and better use...and remember...Tavares ect Oldies nights were jammed as were the artist nights-J.J.Barnes-Juniour Walker and I remember the Detroit Emeralds packing the olace out. Sat nights were full as well but had thinned out by 1979/80 as I remember being there with no more than 200 at times. Also remember Mr M's being empty when Sylvester..You make me feel mighty real was played. People were probably going to other nighters by then though. In my mind when Wigan shut it had had its day long before. Kev- Why Don't You Go To All Nighters?
I love nighters and do them regularly especially 100club and Burnley but not been to Wilton Ballroom, Middleton or Winsford for a while.(Sorry) The atmosphere at nighters is different to soul nights and IMO the dj's dig in more at nighters. Only gets boring for me when certain records hit BIG and are played to death-played to death-played to death-played to death. Likes of Carol and Gerry-Carol and Gerry-Carol and Gerri-The Constallations-The Constollations-The Constallations-Pat and the Blenders-Pat and the Blenders-Pat and the Blenders. Sometimes I think some of the dj's don't live on the same planet and they think we are robots .........and will automatically have to enjoy .........and dance when certain buttons are pushed ..........but I am not a robot..........I am not a number ..........and I am not a fool. YOU WILL NOT BRAINWASH ME. Long live the unknowns and IMO underplayed great soul records. Wish I could afford more of 'em. Kev- Gil Scott-heron "lady Day & John Coltrane"
I've a 12" tester of this by Courtney Pine that worth checking out. As you'd expect its on the Jazzy side Gav. You know this version? Has some rapping on a couple of the dub mixes but as theirs no info I don't know any details. Kev- To You All Djs Out There
How many times have you played out at a venue and struggled playing known stuff? How many times have you played out at a venue and struggled playing semi-known stuff? No-one knows how a dancefloor will react. I've seen dancefloors empty to My Proposal.(Definately a dance record) I've seen people shuffle along to Temptaion 'bout to get you' by The Knight Bros I've played sets of great soulful semi knowns to empty dancefloors but had people shake my hand and tell me how much the've appreciated hearing the set. It's great doing early spots to play semi-knowns. I regularly put down records and say to myself-glad I managed to stick that one in. If I'm playing the same well knowns all the time I get boooorrrrrreeeeeddddd. Lastly I play any request if I have it. If it's something I don't rate or like it won't bein my box anyway! Whoever asked has paid good money and deserve to hear a tune played on their night out.- Mike Terry Rip

Sad news. Condolances to his wife, family and friends. Wished I'd been able to meet him and shake his hand and tell him how much I have used his music to lift me through sad times and rejoice through good times. It's like losing a great and wise friend. I for one will be cracking a can tonight and toasting the maestro. His music will live on in my heart and on my record player. Mr Terry RIP. Kev- Saturday Night Blues
