Its nothing to do with what time you like to be in bed, a handbagger is someone who gets excited and dances to stuff like Third finger left hand & Band of gold
  3. Funny that, I had a mate who liked motown about that time cos his older brother was into it! The rest of us used to take the piss, we thought he was a twat cos we were all into Slade, The Sweet & T.Rex - Motown? whats that all about? A couple of years later ( summer holidays '74 ) we started going to the local youth club where they were playing this "shit" motown & soul. The 1st thing that struck me was that the lads were all dancing! What the f***? Dancing's what girls do. I cant remember how long it was before i started thinking " this isnt bad, this soul stuff" but within a few weeks I was hooked, dancing - the lot! The rest as they say is history- Notts Palais, Coalville, Peterborough, Wigan, Ritz, Leeds Central etc etc 31 years later me, my mate & his older brother are still at it ( arent we youth? )
  4. Heres a few to send me off with: Sam Bowie - Think of the times we had together Ronnie Savoy - Loving you Robert tanner - Sweet memories Whispers - Remember me Johnny Gilliam - Room full of tears Charles Mann - Its all over over The first three would be for the people I love, the rest for everyone else. Then I'd want everyone to have the best soul do ever starting off with Fabulous Downbeats - Life goes on!!!
  5. Had some great nights at Trotters Chalky, it ran for about 8yrs through the 80s I didnt miss too many. Also Rob & Chris Marriot ran a midweek night At The 8 Bells in Mansfield around 78-79, had a couple of top nights there when Searling came down and spun his top tunes of the time ( Cecil Washington, Vickie Baines etc ) Incidentally I dont know if you went to Trotters right at the beginning but it started life as Stewarts ( Banqueting Suite if I remember rightly ) before changing names.
