Soulful Scootering
Dr Pickles. that thing looks ANGRY !! I've had a few Scoots. first one in 79 (mod revival thing). it was a TV200 series 3, i paid the princely sum of £40 for it, paid the guy in 2 installments.... i got it home, checked her over and made sure everything worked. A mate promptly turned up and asked for a spin, i obliged and never saw him or the Lammy for 3 days!! He decided to go to Skegness I kept it a while, then swapped it for a Music centre (honestly) , the guy who got it off me is still Riding Scooters in Hull. I dabbled a bit until about 84, the last rally i went to was Yarmouth, Edwin Starr was on i seem to remember. A good mate from Grantham went to Wigan Casino in 81 on his Vespa 90 (?) with a pillion, thankfully it wasnt me. If you see a red cut down named 'in the red' out and about, that will be Biz, the very same lad who did the trip mentioned above! I was 'Scoot-less' for a few years after those days, then in 96 i got myself a Vespa T5, did a couple of Rallies/meets/ride outs, sold it to buy a large sports bike, promptly sold that and got a Vespa Cosa 200, that was a pile of dung, then just recently i;ve got myself a P200E.......... some lovely machines posted, Scooters and the Northen scene go hand in hand as far as im concerned.

So Who Was Soul Brother Number 1?
i hear ya! choice number 2 for me. one of musics true masters! everything he touched turned to gold ! Sandi Sheldon, Brenda and the tabulations, Gene Chandler, David Ruffin, Billy Woods, his solo outings. an amazing songwriter, arranger and talent. sadly missed indeed. i even stuck a poster up after his death, as a tribute. Great choice

So Who Was Soul Brother Number 1?
someone who stirred the soul. a man who gave us gospel tinged poetry, uptempo mastery, protest songs with feeling and 5 decades of wonderful memories. a true god, who i had the pleasure of seeing twice in the early 80's. his simple guitar playing made my hair stand on end, his silky voice brought tears to the eyes. theres only one .......................... CURTIS MAYFIELD

i'm sure you know that Leon Haywood was released on UK Fantasy ......as stated, 'nothing expensive/nothing rare'- Unexpected Holiday Soul
Yes ! Isle of Man 'Manx' week. heading back to Hotel after a few jars, heard a familiar sound coming from a club/hotel. investigated and found Russ Winstanley doing a Northern night. it was bloody heaving to be honest. so me and my cousin made the most and had a damned good night! He also gave me a ticket for Maximes (25th Casino jobby) in Standish.- Early Doors - Nuneaton Co-Op

careful mate, the baying mob with flaming torches will be at your door- Run A Venue ? Do You Play Ovo?
Believe me Byrney, it aint just the East Mids..... Thankfully i dont run a club. this farce is like a 'mob' rallying together in the frankenstein movies. Nottingham Soul Club is OVO, Cream Cracker is too! and so is the Grand Central in Skeg, probably many more some of you lot need to get out more. Boots or not, i dare say the 'scene' will be dancing to classics long after some of you miserable bleeders have jacked!- Is It Ever Acceptable To Play A Re- Edit Or Re- Production At A Night/ Nighter
Soul in th Sun ............ perfect example. played a lot, usually to a full dancefloor. Awful, best left alone in this case- Is Playing A Boot At A Venue Ever Acceptable
if i buy an original copy of a record off a seller/dealer, will they personally send royalties to the artist & songwriter? I very much doubt it... same as selling a second hand million seller to a mate or family member! not condoning the playing of boots (which most of us have), this is just a poor excuse to fan flames regarding the topic.. if its a legit format (vinyl,CD MP3 or whatever), then they will hopefully get royalties. but those formats arent allowed by the soul police either? it has to be OVO according to Royalty. all very confusing when the original copies were sold, whether it was 20 or 20,000, the artist got royalties. so where does this fit into the thread argument?- Is Playing A Boot At A Venue Ever Acceptable
nowt wrong with rockabilly's........i quite enjoy their do's , especially a kick arse live band- Is Playing A Boot At A Venue Ever Acceptable
I wont respond Dave. i held you in high regard and considered you a friend. because of other parties' , we seem to have lost that friendship. have a good night wherever you'll be- Is Playing A Boot At A Venue Ever Acceptable
i'll not be playing my CUB issue of 'let me be your boy' then? or my black Bell issue of Bob brady ?? those who frown on UK issues (1st or subsequent) & pukka U.S releases need to get off soap boxes. ridiculous! - Early Doors - Nuneaton Co-Op
