  1. Debbie - I can dance to 60s 100mph, plus i have dance medals in the waltz, square tango, argentine tango, foxtrot, social foxtrot, carribean calypso, quickstep, salsa, cha cha cha, rhumba, ballroom jive, 50s jive, jitterbug, lindy & charelston So as you can see, i like to dance But the problem with this modern soul is, you cant dance to it, just walk about a bit! p.s we dont own a copy of interplay
  2. Yes Webby. . Debbie shouted "what the f*** is that" You like the modern scene thats fair enough. The scene today is split it seems. those of us who prefer the old school uptempo stuff and those who enjoy the modern electro pop/dance. we'll stick to what we like Debbie - I have always loved music from the 1920s-1970s, i just cant stand the sound of the new music, i have never even listened to a radio, thats just the way i am!
  3. Call me old skool then. the local clubs around here play allsorts of modern house/funk/dance etc. I aint goin in them just in case i hear something that might have that 'ingredient' .. Debbie n Myself will carry on going to the 100mph oldies venues that get a packed house, big atmosphere and good friends. . not the venues that have more bar staff than punters p.s. there are countless quality 60's and 70's tunes that keep us entertained, plus the 1000's that never get an airing (that should!)
  4. Uptempo 60's and 70's soul. nothing more nothing less
  5. No thanks Webby ( no disrespect ), but the 'Northern' scene needs a certain ingredient in the music. 60's & early 70's SOUL!! House and modern funk is'nt what its about. if i want to hear that i'll go to a local nite-club/disco
  6. Debbie - The Deadbeats-No Second Chance The Antellects-Love Slave Somebody Please Play These!
  7. Mr M's closed in 81 . was it another club with that name? anyway heres another photo of me and 2 friends on the train to St I'ves , around 78/79. sadly both of them are no longer with us, good lads the pair of them!
  8. Johnny Vanelli - seven days of loving you
  9. can i just add that the 'cap' belonged to the guy who owned the monkey, my mate plonked it on my head as the photo was being taken ... loved my old Harrington jacket though . I'll try to find some venue photo's at home .......... now where are the old photo's of Debbie?
  10. Now Who Is This Young Chap? Yes, Its My Ian In His Casino Days From The 70s, Plus He Still Has His Old Membership Card! What A Handsome Young Lad! I Have Put Some Photos In The Members Gallery Of The Old Wigan Casino Northern Noise Magazines
  11. ok i have an internet connection (fingers crossed) Ian's Top Ten Alexander Patton - a little lovin sometimes The Olympics - The same old thing The Carstairs - it really hurts me girl Al Williams - I am nothing Lou Ragland - I travel alone The Contours - just a little misunderstanding Gloria Jones - Come go with me Billy Prophet - what can i do The Coasters - Crazy baby Linda Jones - just cant live my life night night
  12. Come on Ian my love, you must have got 10 together by now!
  13. us too...... on a yellow demo . to be honest, its as good a UK released 'soul' record as you can get I'm still thinking about my top ten IAN
  14. we just mentioned it being VERY popular still Webby . as for Tim Tam : you go to an east mids venue this weekend and you'll see some frantic moves to this. Debbie loves the 100mph+ stuff (along with many others' it seems) Me, I prefer a good across the board selection of tempo's/oldies, i'll try to think of ten all time faves and post em up later p.s. are Sketchleys still in business?
  15. Honest, i just love that Antellects record When Ginger Taylor played it at Stoke, i could not get to that dance floor quick enough, i even have a large photo on my wall of myself & Ginger Tailor holding the record, my partner Ian must be sick of it by now, even when he does a dj spot i make him put it on, he has said to me, im not putting that bloody record on again!
  16. What would be your all time top 10 records? Debbie - I cant speak for Ian, (he will probably add his later), but mine would have to be 1. The Antellects-Love Slave. 2. The Deadbeats-No Second Chance. 3. Wilson Pickett-Let Me Be Your Boy. 4. Harry Deal & The Galaxies-I Still Love You. 5. Cookie Jackson-Do You Still Love Me. 6. Gene Latter-Sign On The Dotted Line. 7. Velvet Satins-Nothing Can Compare To You. 8. Tony Tyrone-Please Operator. 9. Tim Tam & The Turn-Ons-Wait A Minute. 10. Bobby Garrett-My Little Girl. The Antellects has to be my all time number one, as i play that fantastic record every day, & i never get bored of it! Some of these records never get played, which is a real shame so please dj's can i have a bit more of this I look forward to seeing some of your fav tunes (p.s No petty slagging off of other peoples fav's please, or i will send Mr. Tinkles round )
  17. Run For cover - The Dells actually if i hear that once more i'll strangle someone..... Anyway, when it comes to 'oldies' there is one which i would love to hear played (i will spin it on my next outing behind the decks)..... CANDI STATON - 'Upper Hand' also : The Deadbeats - no second chance (a top late casino spin via Richard) Todays People - S.O.S (for dancers only) The Outsiders - Lonely Man (Palais monster) Little Lisa - Hang on Bill (very girly but massive once)
  18. Ian - Baggies and circle skirts were the fashion of the time. clothing is irrelevant to the thread, its about letting cameras in Debbie - I do like a bit of vintage clothing, & being a fashion historian for many years i did enjoy seeing the footage of the fashions from the 70s I dont think i would like to be filmed now at a venue, as its just my social night out, with some good people, listening to good music But like most of these threads, you cant keep everyone happy all of the time & the odd person likes to be rude as usual But as they say, each to their own!
  19. There is !! Mine is at Debbies' house ( with Edwin Starr signature intact )
  20. As said earlier. its the only film footage inside that wonderful building. I have very few memories inside the casino so its good to see a reminder.

Debbie - The last thing i would want to do is, dance with a partner at a Soul event It was bad enough when i used to do competition Latin American & Ballroom, some of your partners were but i still had to smile! & its even worse for Lindy & Jive! WHAT A BUNCH OF THEY WERE! Just think about it!, my poor size 3 feet getting stamped on by some big size 9 PLEASE NO PARTNERS FOR NORTHERN SOUL!
