Late Summer and a busy Bank Holiday Weekend!! September is peeping round the corner and our next event Saturday September 20th is the date for our next instalment at Ashton Ukrainian Club!! The Man from the excellent DAB of Soul Weekends Chris Anderton is back with us, expect some of the tunes from Bretby/Albrighton era of the early 90s Rare Soul Scene, mixed in with some classy Soulful 70s, always a varied playlist, just how we like it!! Ashton Regular and Detroit Soul Afficianado Michael Wilks AKA Wilxy also returns after a memorable set last year!! Stu "Shovel" Cheetham king of the "paradiddles" and the first on the dancefloor, will be digging into his eclectic mix of 45s with some biggies from The Burnley Niters and so much more !! Team Ukrainian complete the line up Stockport's finest Sound Engineer/Booking Agent and Vinyl Spinner of some Amazing 45s from the Rare as you Dare to the cheap and overlooked records, waiting to have their day. "Oh WHAT a night" Steaming Hot, doesn't come close to last night at Ashton Ukrainian Club!! Amazing and varied sets from ALL the DJs , a flying visit from the ever dependable Phil Dunn to get the night underway. Really enjoyed Stephen Morgan set kicking off with Les McCann mean and moody "sad little girl" Mecca Memories with Little Rena Scott, Bettye Swann "when the game is played on you" and many more gems, which hit the spot with the dancefloor. Preston's Gis Southworth came primed and ready with his trusty box of 45s and an array of Head Gear and Moustaches, brilliant!! Great tracks from Vi Campbell, Gerri Hall, Lenny Curtis, Harry Starr all gratefully accepted by an appreciative crowd!! Simon Ingham never fails to deliver Celebrities "I choose you" Hayes Cotton "I'll be waiting" Hopkins Brothers, tune after tune WOWSER!! Next up Andrew Dyson United Sounds "it's all over" New Sounds "don't take your love" sounding really fresh all over again Eddie Billups "ask my heart" just amazing!! Ashton OG Chris Churm AKA "The Finisher" absolutely smashed it, maybe record of the night JD Abram "let me tell you what I want" David Coleman "drown my heart" captured the moment perfectly!! Ashton Faithful and again some more first timers, eager to see what we're about, take a bow!! Considering the warm summer nights and competition, you did us proud, turning up in numbers. Andrew Dyson always delivers with Aplomb!! Niter Classics, Exclusives and just Darn Good Soul Music, regardless of price!! Gis Southworth is sorting his vinyl selections and Bespoke Head Gear as I type, should be interesting!! WOWSER a great night is in prospect!! Team Ukrainian Resident Fixer/Sound Engineer and Class DJ Simon Ingham is back with us again. Things are heating up in every sense of the word, interest for our Saturday August 16th Late Summer Soul Soiree at Ashton Ukrainian Club we have an Amber Warning!! "Danger it's gonna get Soulful" !! Our resident Personal Trainer/Drummer and Dance Floor Pied Piper Stu"Shovel" Cheetham takes a well earned rest from his gig schedule to take his place on the dancefloor!! We'll all be "lost in the mood of changes" with an Awesome DJ line up with Andrew Dyson headlining quality Soul Music Guaranteed!! Don't miss it !!
