I understand that part, what I'm trying to find out is - if the buy it now price is not met, do I still have to sell

surely the buy it now tag acts as a reserved price tag without adding a reserve price ?????

There was a starting price and a buy it now price

so I don't have to let it go at the bid price ? do I contact the bidder and state that the b-i-n price had not been reached so no sale ?

Got something up an Ebay with a ''buy it now'' tag question - if someone places abid on the said item and its not the B-I-N price - do I have to sell it for the bid price ?????????
