  1. Great to see some cheap lps getting some recognition this lp and the Anita Baker lps are well deserved mentions.
  2. Surprised you thought she was underrated, the two Caught Up albums were massive sellers in the U.S. and I remember at the time Blues and Soul getting behind these albums and I was the first through the door for the first album on delivery to my local record shop. Her albums prior to those were good too as were few after but sadly her material got a bit smutty and although most lps after had few tracks of note the rest were quite poor, but I will still remember the thrill of hearing those two albums in the Caught Up series and how they changed my outlook on soul music forever. Vocally Millie is up there with the very best in my opinion.
  3. The 2016 reissue on "Be With" as stated by other posters above.
  4. Looked through the thread and no mention of the great Johnnie Taylor, two from me to correct that " Super Taylor" and " Eargasm " both of which still get plays from me.
  5. One of my faves by Barbara
  6. Those two are perfection in every level .
  7. The Dramatics and the lp "A Dramatic Experience" is a lp I still keep coming back to even to this day some killer ballads/midpacers on this wonderful album.
  8. Listening now to the Lou Courtney on Spotify, seems like a missed a winner 🙂 I do own the single though "Somebody New Is Lovin On You" but never really gave it a chance , too many records and not enough time to give some time to hit home.
  9. I mentioned "Still Caught Up" in a later post, nothing to choose between them in my opinion and the rap to the song "Leftovers" is sublime and the venom Millie spits out in the song is brilliant. Much to my shame not heard the Lou Courtney album.
  10. "Is That Enough" one of Marvins best songs from the seventies nearly 8 minutes of perfection.
  11. " Still Caught Up" is on par too but it was the first one that had me the same thinking as you too.
  12. Not a great fan of live albums but James Brown " Live At The Appolo " and a non soul album Bob Marley " Live At The Lyceum " are two that capture the vibe and feeling of the night on vinyl for me.
  13. "Caught Up" Millie Jackson
  14. Maybe the reason for no mention of Otis is because i thought ? the main gist of the thread was records that changed the musical direction of black music in the U.S. example R&b to early soul then the Motown Sound then to more funk and album oriented stuff and seventies sweet soul, not records that had an influence on British listeners. Or maybe I am wrong as usual ?.
  15. Thank f*** it never came about the thought of Jones doing those songs and others in Detroit with Motown does not dare thinking about. Jones at Motown nearly as big as tragedy as what happened to Delilah.
  16. YES , winning is success losing is failure especially against 2 sides who 1 was inferior to our team Italy and Spain were probably equal. His defensive mentality cost us the chance of success.
  17. If success means not winning anything that is true after all reaching 2 finals and a semi is a success of sorts 😂
  18. About the only decent decision he has made this summer.
  19. If Man. United can beat Man City in the F.A Cup final I am sure England can pull an upset off against Spain.
  20. Just a heads up to anyone interested Aretha live in Amsterdam 1968 on BBC 2 at 9.50pm tonight.
  21. Deffo not Lorraine.
  22. Unfortunately the greats who have hit paydirt do not get the accolades on here as much as the relative unknowns which is natural on a site about rare soul. Great to hear some of the tracks again though If we do the queen's it's a tough one for me to decide on one.
  23. Cheers, noticed after posting and amended my post.
  24. England had no cohesion the players looked drained of energy and tactically inept.
