  1. Boogie to the top was that by Rokotto?? Grant
  2. I think I remember the guy you are on about, If it's the same one did he looke a bit like a Hippy,Longish hair always wore jeans, and a poncho sometimes, Looked to me like someone who had stayed behind after the Rock night,Always looked like he was smashed of his tit's,He would just stand on the floor and then suddenly run to the side, then stop for a few minutes and then run back again,It must be the same one? Grant
  3. I dont believe they played that at Wigan,Good god never please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  4. This is my wife's favourite line "Hey Baby Don't You Turn Aside,Don't You Leave Me So Unsatisfied"(Lou Johnson), Can't understand why she sings this line?? It was ok for me LOL Grant
  5. The point of this thread is to discuss the tunes you don't like, not as I have stated before to have a go at anyone,Just to say I don't like a certain song / record, As for country/rock n roll/ RnB/White artist, does it matter if you dont like eggs with your chips you would'nt buy eggs,If there are songs you dont like you dont buy / dance to it would you!!, Its not a crime to have an opinion, and I quote yourself"Music is all about opinion that's what makes it so special", And just for the record, I also think that "Superlove" by David & the Giants is a crap track also DING DING Round 3 Grant

  11. Sorry mate just checked the Guinness book and no It did not chart, The reason I thought it charted was that I found it in my mates record box,and he only ever had stuff that charted,It must have been a close run thing for him to have it though, Its an All Platinum, same label that did the Rimshots in the UK
  12. Yes it did as did Thelma Houstons version of Don't Leave Me
  13. My ex girlfriend jumped into some blokes car, never saw her again broke my bloody heart, LOL sorry
  14. I've got the need charted by Chuck Jackson, Love Machine a Deffo chart hit and later by Wham I think, Not sure about Silvetti charting, if it did it was lower end,Nine times out of ten --Muriel Young charted, Dont go breaking my heart-----------Give me a break NEVER in my lifetime NO WAY not even Soul Sam would have played it at a Northern venue,It came out in 76,and was number one for a million years in the charts,Now if you had said the Elton John and Rue Paul version played by Ian Levine I might have believed you,LOL
  15. Ok I dropped a bollock "Scrub Board" is the inst version on ZING sorry, My wifes pissing herself at me now and I quote"You never get anything WRONG" I blame it on Stella, that's not my wifes name but the Lager
  16. I wrote about Phyliss Hyman on a facebook Northern page a while ago,I heard it at at Heywood civic hall, and all of my mates looked at me and I looked at them,Yep it's a disco record about 80ish I think, Yes Iam an old bloke who came back to the scene!!, The Trammps when you think about it? It was released in 74 ish,and it does have a good beat,The instrumental is called "Scrub Board",and it features on many Northern collection cd's, Sexy Sugar Plum,Ah well ummm, I bought it and tried to dance to it at the Ritz, I was 16-17 should I have known better???, If it was a newie today would they dance to it?? If you were a newbie on the scene would you dance to it?? It's all up to you folks, After all this is a discussion, No point in saying it should not have / or be played,It was and still is, "You sexy sugar plum look what you've gone and done" Cheers Grant
  17. Otis Blackwel Good choice
  18. This track is now a part of The Casino legend, Apparently Dave Evison was doing a spot in the main hall and had forgotten to cue up is next track,as the last few bars of whatever he was playing started to fade out he just reached into his box and pulled out the first thing he got his hands on"Move On Up" was the said track It went down a storm I'm led to believe,This one thing was to lead to the opening of Mr M's as an oldies room in the following weeks.
  19. No it was by Lamont Dozier,It was also used at the time as a jingle on a TV advert for a packet of crisps called Kp Disco's, TRUE not a myth I remember it well,it was later covered by Odyssey, The Idris Muhammed track was called "Could Heaven Ever Be Like This.
  20. This is the type of attitude that split the Northern scene in the 70's,The oldies vs The newies, After all these years and after so many songs slagged off by numerous people on The Northern scene is it not now time to let sleeping dogs lie, With this genre of music now even maybe bigger than in the past, and with more younger people becoming aware of it,Should we not embrace both camps, However I must state that Iam an oldies bloke and I was in the 70's,LIke to dance and look at dancers and listen to some good tunes,Some of the newer tunes I listen to I have to think about,The same way I listened to The Carstairs"It really hurts me girl", Well that blew my mind f**k me thats new and soul, This was in the 70's And now in the 21st century the same arguments / discussions, As for the comment about "Baggy trousers & Split Skirts",I can only say that without them we would not be having this discussion now,The many people on this thread who went to Wigan,Stafford,Cleethorpes etc, Are the real reason that this genre of music is still so popular,As I have said before in many different forums about Northern Soul,We the oldies are the "Faith Keepers",not a new fad for us but a continuation of a fantastic musical taste, and I and many other SOULIES welcome you, because you are the next generation Keep The Faith Grant
  21. Well said Mark,I put up this thread as an fun based idea,Not to slag anyone Dj's or artists, and as you said there are and where some crappy tracks, but not everyone will agree with my or other peoples idea of fun or my personal dislikes of certain records, And for the record I think that Barbara Mills "Queen of Fool's" is a crap track also, DING DING Round 2, Grant
  22. It was a good night out Phil,I used to go with Mick Harvey,Jimmy Dover,Keith Dootson(Dooky)Do you remember them,It was before I knew you really I think,Mick Harvey is still into Northern,Jimmy went into Joy Division and stuff like that,Dooky I havent seen for years, but you may remember him from the Ritz days,he had a girlfriend called Kate and she was the spitting Image of Keyhole Kate from The Beezer comic, Do you ever see Dave Holland or Rob Spendlove anymore?
  23. Blanche Carter "Halo's Are For Angels"
  24. We used to catch the last bus from Bolton on Saturday nights to go to the Casino, cant remember the bus number,It went via a small area of Bolton called Dean,The church in this area had a sign outside "Welcome to Dean Parish" Every week we looked but never saw him,Then again it was about 11.30 at night so he must have been well on his way by then, Grant
