  1. Looking forward to a soulful, Saturday, Summer sizzler.
  2. There are several soul anniversaries in March: 1972 - The first all-nighter at The Torch 🙂 1973 - The Torch closed 🙁 1974 - The Top Rank in Hanley closed So there will certainly be some music from those venues plus of course the best of the rest
  3. We've attended since the first one just over six years ago and not missed many. Always a great atmosphere and definitely one of the better Northern Soul nights.
  4. Ekim commented on Caron And Den's event in Soul Nights

It's a fantastic room and for only £3 admission how can you resist? I'm looking forward to playing some good old soul records that are almost as old as me (almost!!!)
  5. The final one for this year so please don't miss it.
  6. Coppenhall club is the perfect venue for Northern Soul with a large dancefloor and plenty of seating. Only £5 admission for nine and a half hours of great music.
  7. Ekim replied to Ekim's topic in Record Wants
I have noticed that and will monitor it. Depends how high the bids go. Thanks for the info.
  8. Several wants (at least ex+ i.e. without: background noise, cue burn, crackles, clicks etc.) I'm Coming Home Baby - Eddie Gough & The Traditions (Century Records) Can't Get Too Much Love - Johnny Praye (Sidewalk) What'Cha Gonna Do - The Ikettes (Phil-Dan/London) Stop, Leave My Heart Alone - Two People (Revue) You Just Don't Know - The Broadways (MGM) Open Up Your Heart (Let Love Out) - The Mamselles (ABC) Please PM with condition and price
  9. There was a small, short-lived shop called Glad Rags, which was a few yards down the street (the locally famous Hope street !!!) from Chawners in Hanley. They had a workshop in the back where there made their own clothing. Around 1974 they were selling corduroy baggies and short bomber jackets in various colours. For Gibson brogues, loafers etc., Brassington's in Hanley, Longton, and at that time, Shelton, was the place to go. The Hanley shop still sells Loakes.
  10. `Just Ask Me` - Lenis Guess. It's got pounding brass, soulful vocals, a (very) fast tempo and sounds like it was recorded in one take - Perfect!
  11. I'm looking for Dorothy Berry ‎– `You Better Watch Out` (Planetary) At least vg++ Soul Source grading (ex+) Would consider a Danish or South African Dot issue Please PM me with price and condition Thanks, Mike
  12. I remember Keith working in Bew's in Burslem in 1973 (what a dashing young man!!! 🤣) from where I bought my early Northern Soul records (Johnny Sayles, Bobby Freeman and Lenis Guess). I didn't get to know him until years later through buying far too many records (well someone had to put food on his table) and doing some D.J. work for him. Even at (almost) seventy he still has a great enthusiasm and retains all of that soul music knowledge. Happy birthday Keith 🎂. Mike
  13. I can't believe that Bill is no longer with us. We've travelled to so many venues together (never got lost when I was driving did we?!!!) and had many fun nights. When the restrictions are lifted we intend to arrange a soul night in Bill's honour and try to raise some money for a charity of Sue's choice. Now you're in soul heaven, R.I.P. my friend, you will be so missed. Mike
