  1. Very sad news, deejayed for you a couple of times a few years ago, always a receptive crowd and always busy...east Manc will miss a great venue
  2. Yep, just been looking for this too. It's stated in Alex Mackenzie's book ' The Motown Stars ' this marriage apparently occured whilst she was enrolled at the University of Pennsylvania, in 64. There's absolutely no reference to this in Ludie's biography. Instead she relates that Berry Gordy gave her the name, Terrell due to it's ' artistic ring '. I'd be more inclined to go along with that, though it would be correct to say that Jean Terrell was Ernie's sister, she of course became the Supremes lead after Ross' departure. I'll have to read Ludie's book more thoroughly because, she's since done a revamped print more recently which i think Richard made a point of promoting when she came over here for the BISF in June.
  3. For a brief period, Tammi was married to the boxer, Ernie Terrell ( one of many whom Mohammed Ali fought in the 60's ) As for Tammy ( inspired by a Debbie Reynolds film ) she introduced herself as that as she thought the name Tommie ( Thomasina ) was boyish, that's all described in Ludie Montgomery's book about her late sister.
  4. The one one discogs is listed at £200+ ? Andrea Henry still getting played out now, just a wonderful laid back tune, always gets the dancers up, regardless of it's tempo. Probably the reason why the version by Janice is overlooked?, i don't mean that in a derogatory way...it's certainly rare enough to not be in most collectors boxes, and likely a good many have simply forgotten about it or not even aware of or heard it before....and with avids chasing illusive copies of Andrea Henry, the other version is still bypassed?
  5. Remember Graham having a shop in Wolvo, was in the same premises as a pub/restaurant called the French Duck?. Not that i went in there or his stall in the oasis. Only places i ever visited circa 78 were Reddington's in the subway and The Rag Market. Think i went to Lester Marriner's shop once as well. Final visit to Reddington's was 98 when it had moved into a basement in Corporation st. Had one box uk Motown singles in there....i found a Martha Reeves issue " No One There " £3....played it at Goodyears....cleared the floor!...they soon learned though. Graham, of course, was responsible for the Miami haul, as previously mentioned....a lot of those tunes discovered were played at the Catacombs first. Graham also did shows on BRMB,maybe sitting in for Nicky Steele.
  6. There's a thing: how far back are we going with the scene's usage of talc on dancefloors?. Is it a case it wasn't a subject of discussion in the 70's ( if it was used ) it was just taken for granted and nobody actually complained about the state of dancefloors back then either...just throw the talc down....honestly...i can't to my knowledge, remember seeing anyone put talc down at venues back then.
  7. Adding pictures, and ( more? ) importantly, soundclips of the actual vinyl ( not youtube ) really ought to be standard procedure. Some items also don't have youtube soundclips which i think thankfully is not common..but it happens. Unless an item is well known and heard out a lot anyway, really the seller should put up a soundclip?. Do folk find they have a problem with posting their own goods label scans and soundclips?....why don't they discuss this more on the forum?, i think " can't really be bothered, or too long winded " dosn't do potential buyers any favours. Sorry if i'm emphasizing coals that have been raked over before but, the sales page would look the part if everyone made the effort?

  12. Expect the unexpected, which is the very best of what's normally not heard at 'regulation' soul nights, as the djs sift through their collections to present a selection of tunes to chime 2026, that are nothing less than breath of fresh air!. This Batley venue, along with it's Saltaire ' twinny ' is upping the ante whereby you don't expect to hear a 500 session but, tunes that following in the distinct fashion and trend as set by Stafford and it's subsequent replicants over the past 4 decades, and upholding the mantra that there so much more to be heard and enjoyed without raking over old coals. A cracking venue then, with an enviable dancefloor, spaceous and made to measure for pounding feet, more than adequate seating, very competitive bar prices, plenty of parking and at a minimum of 8 hours dancing into the new year for just a tenner!

A top drawer night at Culcheth and it's par for the course that nothing less than the best is expected..this is where CVH is out in front, the market leader under the drive and enthusiasm of it's leader, Barry Maleedy who bring some serious soul instigators to his turntables every month, reflecting the philosophy in these parts of collecting the very best tuneage that hasn't already been put through the wringer over the decades. That certainly echoes true of the selections imparted here to the willing listeners and dancers alike...A forward thinking venue dusplaying the attributes of successful forerunners of the last 40 odd years including highly regarded pacemakers like Stafford, Tony's 100 Club, Lea Manor, Lowton, Winsford, Brighouse, Prestwich et al....Joan Livesey and Phil Threlfall were part also of the highly respected GRUMPY soul nights in Runcorn and our duet came along to deliver a thoroughly creditable selection of tunes over 2 hours that paid homage to that haven of quality soul music. Add to that Mr. M's legend and top line dj out and about, Ian Wills plus night ender Simon Ingham and Our Bazza bamboozling the early doors entrants with even more chin scratching, head-peering-over-the-decks offerings from his vast vinyl library, and it was 'don't miss a moment what ever you do' from start to finish. Plenty of floor exercise from the gathered throng in the main room and replicated in the smaller lounge where Soul Sam and the modern boys where keeping their flucuating audience busy...that being so much so because a good many folk wanted catch their favourite selectors at the right moment...a very busy night indeed!.
  15. Don't forget this!😉
  16. Reciprocated Joan, eagerly awaiting a plethora of proper educative tuneage and a thoroughly great night to boot...we'll see you there!😉👍
  17. Recommended nearby budget line hotels: Premier Inn, Parc Cybi, Holyhead. LL65 2QU Travelodge, Kingsland Road, Holyhead. LL65 2LB
