Awesome Richard Searling Spot At Wigan
..and it's good to hear it, sir arthur, the fact is, good sets can still be heard all over the country and the quality of the rarities haven't diminished....it remains however, a fact that when a breath of fresh air was needed amongst the choking smog of pop with a 4's beat, richard restored the balance and the sanity, reminding people what northern soul stood for. i'm sure you, along with butch, adey, sam and a whole other bunch of devotees, will keep the fires burning for years to come.

Awesome Richard Searling Spot At Wigan
sorry bro, i'll have to dispute that....i went to the catacombs during that era, and i never heard it,...definitely not on a wednesday night and as for saturday's?, no chance....yes it was for the rarer stuff but if it had been in either dj's boxes at that time....we would all have heard of it long before wigan.

Awesome Richard Searling Spot At Wigan
awesome playlist pete...richard at his iconic best....i think we all dream that times like this could be had again...but a good many of you out there, lived that particular moment and can never have it taken away from you...it's possible to actually feel the atmosphere just reading the depth of the quality....a northern soul set to bring you to your senses amidst the banal pop infiltration and media attention, when truly inspirational soul music endured and shook you to your foundations. richard always believed in the truth, giving people the real deal, those latest discoveries, always moving forward, the quest never to rely on tried and tested oldies...he was always ahead of the field..and still knows how to do it now..

Irene And The Scott's - I'm Stuck On My Baby
yep, checked jm today...low and behold his second demo of the year at auction....can anyone recall what the first one realized?. imho, i believe the background to a record does count a lot to the obvious enthusiasts, be they in a minority perhaps, but it's part of human psyche to gather information and very little attracts attention quite like records with pedigree..in this individual case, the credits speak for theirselves and they make the record worthy of a sale in any language.

Northern Soul - Back Where They Belong
so does that mean you've bought several houses then?
-
Northern Soul - Back Where They Belong
that is a premier cru list pete, yes some champagne tunes there from the golden era....apologies...had to read into the post twice to understand what you meant by bought a collection...wow! anyone, not just yourself, would've had to sell their house to buy all that lot....then it clicked about the re-issues i genuinely thought you'd hit the jackpot pal!.....margaret mandolph....as already commented on here......pep introduced a lot of us to this, before wigan was even aware..sammies all-nighters copped for it as well......all those cassette players on the stage...wish i still had me photo's of back then

News: HOF: Weldon A Mcdougall III - Post Production Inductee
loved his book from day one Dave, took it along to the Manchester Apollo on 2004 and got the funk brothers page signed by Jack Ashford and the guys after their performance. really is a personal perspective, a genuine close-up that very few people were privilege to in both the 60's and 70's. Sadly, the book was only made available in the states...more people should have it in their collections, it really is a fascinating insight into the workings of the Motown corporation. I think that what Weldon did, in Philadelphia, came as close to replicating the Motown sound, but without the big breakthrough his productions so richly deserved. Having said that, he more than anybody else, is probably responsible for more releases associated with our northern soul scene than any other writer/producer/arranger, outside of Detroit.

Emotions On Vardan
just based on what i read here over the years, you have been a regular contributor and a valued source of information...and most importantly, you're over there, whilst we're here...must have been a very emotive and traumatic occasion at bob's passing & funeral....there was and still is, a profound depth of shock and loss, when we look back at years end and see the roll call of the departed, it will make tragic reading.
-
Emotions On Vardan
i wonder if our freind, robbk should, if he hasn't already been, be inducted into the hall of fame on here.....a major authority alongside the late boba
-
Emotions On Vardan
think robb's already covered that kev, and i would concur as i have the phillips issue and it's definitely speeded up...to be honest i thought it was my record deck, but this proves to be not the case!...great l.a. tune and got every chance of going massive if enough forward thinking djs start spinning it.

Grapevine Records
and before anybody says anything, i haven't even discussed the issue of bootlegs, of which the tamangoes was one....and sold very well, lest we all need reminding.
-
Grapevine Records
look.....it's like this the tamangoes is on washpan, the original u.s. issue...as far as the u.k. is concerned, grapevine is the first and only legitimate issue...there's isn't necessarily a problem with playing it...is there?..it may not be u.s. ovo but it IS u.k. ovo....that applies really to all of their releases..all first timers in this country, anything after , of course, IS a second issue. djs were playing tunes on stateside and various other u.k. outlets when they were already available on u.s. issues but of course in the early 70's the vast majority wouldn't have been aware of that, because imports were only just beginning to filter through, even though they were mostly 6 to even 8 years old. collecting on a vast scale now, is making it nigh on impossible to pay for, let alone obtain the tunes...as the younger generations are finding out..we were lucky in our day remember...even up to the early 80's stuff was literally giveaway potential...even at stafford, yet because of stafford appreciation of these cast-offs was more acute, til eventually all things must pass and abundance dries up to a trickle...everything then suddenly has a value. grapevine made some of the genuine obscurities available to a larger record buying audience much earlier and with the passing decades some of the releases have seen a surge in demand because of the former situation...which brings us up to date. i don't think anyone has any quibbles about spinning betty boo because it was a completely unissued track..and the tamangoes was one of just a handful of projects that was withdrawn...so the quandry is: if everybody had £4k to buy a copy of the washpan issue, there wouldn't be enough to go round anyway...and as the officially withdrawn u.k. issue is the only way of obtaining and playing it...why not?......

Oh Dear! Wigan Celebrate Soul
- Oh Dear! Wigan Celebrate Soul
you can point me in the direction of the latter then rod! never too late to learn anything!- Dennis Coffey Interview
his blog is tremendous, he certainly dosn't disguise the fact that he loved being part of/working with the funks, and on so many hits, he introduced originality, particularly the effects he acquired, including wah wah, echoplex and fuzztone. he refers in particular to cloud nine and ball of confusion...you can identify his trademark here, but they are just examples of the enormous amount of work he collaberated on. i don't possess the book..i assume the many anecdotes he is currently relating, must be in there, either way it's fascinating that he can recall so much, his mind as sharp as a knife. love the record catalogue as well, so many northernesque "hits" to his and mike theodore's credit......and a big thumbs up to the man as it's also his birthday today.....congratulations dennis, and a continued long life to you!- Grapevine Records
deana barnes & nabay were amongst just a few that did not have a demo format.....the tamangoes however, did despite it's withdrawal. this information is deemed to be correct.- Oh Dear! Wigan Celebrate Soul
