  1. Paul, I used to have the first ever badge, my Auntie Jackie's husband gave it to me in 79 - she's a year older than me and he 5 years older - he went on the first night and I'm sure he said it was given out that night - Wigan casino First All Nighter, then Keep The Faith - Russ & someone.... I think it was yellow. I might be wrong about the colour, I sold it to Steve Morgan for £10 on the train to the Locarno on sunday.
  2. I quite like that Pressure track and I think Thinking Of You by Sister Sledge is one of the best records ever made, but I'll give you some petrol to pour on the rest of them, despite me never having heard any of them

That was me, surprisingly, or not
  4. Let me say something controversial here then, this works both ways, one of the reasons I've stopped going out round here is because it's usually the same people dj-ing at every venue. Now don't get me wrong, these guys are really good and they have brilliant records - but they do tend to play the same records most of the time. And here's the twist. These records often include records with an average price of £500 upwards. So while these records may not be played at all venues, they do seem to be played round here too much, so just because you pay tons of money for a record, does that mean it has to be played at every event?
  5. You don't want to start buying pressings mate You're spot on with that list...local youth club back in the 70's, now local soul club!
  6. I remain uninterested in the sound of the 70's and 80's my friend. Apart from a few. Well thats because I don't dj Steve...where else am I supposed to play them?
  7. Drew I am removing 20 records from my own collection box, I haven't got many, maybe 100 or so of my favourites, 10 are played out oldies, 10 are not played out oldies, I wonder if people will think the same way.. bear in mind this isn't actually a playlist, they are just some my favourite records BOBBY REED - I'LL FIND A WAY INNOCENT BYSTANDERS - FRANTIC ESCAPE DEL ROYALS - MAN OF VALUE STER PHONICS - DON'T LEAVE ME EMANUEL LASKEY - LUCKY TO BE LOVED HONEY BEES - NEVER IN A MILLION YEARS PATTI AUSTIN - HE'S GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME MONIQUE - IF YOU LOVE ME LANDY - DOCTOR GOOD SOUL LITTLE ANN - WHEN HE'S NOT AROUND (WHAT SHOULD I DO) JJ BARNES - PLEASE LET ME IN RICHARD TEMPLE - THAT BEATIN RHYTHM NATURAL FOUR - I THOUGHT YOU WERE MINE FRANKIE CROCKER - TON OF DYNAMITE JOANIE SOMERS - DON'T PITY ME VOLCANOS - THE LAWS OF LOVE YUM YUMS - GONNA BE A BIG THING COASTERS - CRAZY BABY DYNAMICS - I NEED YOUR LOVE DETROIT EXECUTIVES - COOL OFF mix them all together though and you have a half decent hour of listening
  8. It's just a laugh mate... true though
  9. The Epitome Of Sound must have been played at more or less every venue since it was first discovered in 73. And rightly so! There are probably only 3 or 4 better Northern records ever made. So no wonder people want to hear it and dance to it. I don't play my records very often byut when I do, I always play that...and Little Anthony...and maybe 30 or 40 more, but it'll always be the same ones I keep going back to because asically - they are the best records!
  10. The actual definition is: "shit records that don't sound like 60's soul"
  11. Yes but if you are following up a hit, you prepare enough copies in case the follow up is a hit, they aren't going to make a run of 50 copies for a company like Parkway. Anyway the Janie Grant is now £250 due to demand and rarity
  12. Thanks Paul. It must be time for a new book John!
  13. John, thanks again for your help. It's a bootleg then. I'm f*cked if I'm paying 40 quid for that!
  14. Dunno Ted, I'd have thought about 600 for Yvonne Baker. I traded my Vickie Baines for over £1000 worth of records. Think I sold Christine Cooper issue for £400.
  15. In case that link doesn't work https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...y0%3D%26fvi%3D1
  16. I couldn't remember it being pressed on this design Tuff label so thought I'd give it a bash, must say I'm a but suspicious about the bidder 'detroitphil' who has no feedback and has never bid on another record apart from to drive the price of this one up - what do you lot think? https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...bayphotohosting
  17. I think I've had all of them now, including the Vickie Baines stock copy...amazing when you think that records like SOS Heart In Distress are round in massive quantities...
  18. I can sell you I Won't Do Anything for ten quid, near mint...Cowards way out is on a different 45 though, not sure if thats what you meant
  19. Only problem is - I think I was probably the last auction winner for both these records!
  20. The last book prices I've got for these are: jean carter demo 150 (jm) 150 (tb) janie grant issue 200 (jm) 60 (tb) the TB valuation of the janie grant is a joke, or a mistake - it's almost as tough as the Christine Cooper issue I was going to stick 175 on each of those
  21. OK so it looks like a lot of people think I'm wrong in saying that people are overpricing records. So here are two nice items which I have coming up on my next list. One is a mint demo of JEAN CARTER - LIKE ONE, and I mean mint, unplayed. The other is the extremely scarce issue copy of JANIE GRANT - MY HEART, YOUR HEART on Parkway. Condition mint minus, played one or two times maximum. I'd be very interested to see what other people would price these at. Serious answers I mean.

It's really common, you should be able to find one on ebay for a couple of dollars. Anyone noticed that in the middle of this there's a section stolen compltely from Lou Christie's Lightnin Strikes!
  23. Me, personally...300 quid but the demand for that is non-stop so maybe 350...but I'd have listed the Velours for 200-250 (I asked Mick Smith the same question and he also said 250)
  24. Of course I have. It's only as rare as The Charades issue. Not exactly up to Dean Courtney standard.
  25. Yes it is mate, I also saw it when I was very young and was totally besotted by it from about the age of 5 til I saw it again when I was maybe 11. Then after that I was besotted by Janet Leigh's bust (as it appears in the film) sadly I can't find any pics of this. Didn't see it again for many years but JC Tom sent me a copy on video a few years back.
