According to my 'rare soul dvd list' (available from me, free) it's Arts file - early 90's overview from the bbc, actually a fairly intelligent look at the scene

I know, I was just 'acting' nearly all these reports are the same, they are clueless - I've got a couple that are accurate, one from the BBC circa 1990, I'll dig it out

This is from an early 2000's BBC drama series set in Manchester called Clocking Off. In this clip, two of the shows main characters go to The Ritz in Manchester (to relive their youth by the looks of it). It is actually filmed at the Ritz, and most of those extras are 'real' Northern soulies. The music, of course, is the brilliant "Champion" by Willie Mitchell
