We already did this about 2 months ago, the thread went on over about 4 pages, started by Dayo I think. As ever, there was always someone who didn't like a particular record. Like, I don't like The Hytones so that's that one out of the game So I'll go for an instrumental BARI TRACK

This isn't Planet Records book club but you may well be interested in this little beauty! Now the title doesn't sound up to much - "The Old Barrio Guide To Low Rider Music 1950-1975" - but wait until you see what's in it. Basically Low Rider music was the soundtrack for young Mexican/Latino teenagers to cruise around in their cars to. The music is mainly ballads and soul classics such as "Hello Stranger", that kind of thing, in other words - the B sides of the records we are interested in, and therefore many, many Northern Soul tracks and artists are mentioned. There's also a stack of fascinating information about label owners, studios and record producers. Anyway, this book contains an A to Z of the artists and records favoured by this Low Rider scene and it's an absolute treasure trove for anyone interested in obscure Northern Soul artists. For instance - there's features on: Admirations Carltons Citations Linda Carr Johnny Bartel Commands Jimmy Conwell Tony Clarke Chuck Corby Cynthia & The Imaginations Autographs Attractions Ruby Andrews Bleu Lights... That's just from opening random pages in the A, B and C sections. Hundreds of photographs of the artists including Brothers Of Soul Royal Jesters Gene Chandler Elgins (male group) Informers Frankie Karl Royal Chessmen Little Ray Vanguards Ronnie Walker Younghearts Etc And to top it off, there are 8 full colour pages of record scans. All in all, a cracking read and very reasonably priced too. I bought this book just as a hunch it might have some useful information on those obscure artists and was blown away by it and thought it might pay me to see if I can sell a few copies, so here we are.
