  1. They don't count
  2. Can't stand Prayin. Like Pressure. Not as a soul record, just as a track.
  3. No they didn't do Cruel To Be Kind :graynone:

How's he going to make a profit if he doesn't charge anyone for anything?
  5. Johnny One Trout does

I've no idea what it is. Good though.
  7. Despite having heard this endless times and owning several copies, I still couldn't hum the tune to you, that's how forgettable I find this track...other side is poor as well
  8. It was just there to see if anyone was paying attention - you were!!!
  9. Of course!!
  10. Who's that in your avatar Baz
  11. Agree 100%
  12. Unbelievable record, I voted for it last time, got booed off
  13. No, never bored of Open The Door To Your Heart. Constellations is very average though
  14. When I used to work in an office there were about 10 of us in there and we all liked different sorts of music, like me with soul and reggae, someone was into heavy metal, couple of old dears into middle of the road music and so on, anyway we always used to take it in turns playing compilation tapes and we only ever agreed on one single record that all of us liked...... cruel to be kind by Nick Lowe
  15. Fantastic record
  16. I like that. Bored of it by 1975 though.
  17. Deservedly so!
  18. No good mentioning Frank Wilson because someone trying to be clever will say it's rubbish. What about George Blackwell - Can't lose my head Robert Parker - Caught you in a lie Inspirations - No one else can take your place Bobby Hutton - Come see what's left of me Dynamics - I need your love Tim Tam - Wait a minute
  19. It is for the likes of you and I who actually have it, it's the other poor misguided folk like Pikey's Dog I feel sorry for
  20. I hate that
  21. They aren't on the internet
  22. Tell that to the Funk Brothers
  23. We already did this about 2 months ago, the thread went on over about 4 pages, started by Dayo I think. As ever, there was always someone who didn't like a particular record. Like, I don't like The Hytones so that's that one out of the game So I'll go for an instrumental BARI TRACK
  24. This isn't Planet Records book club but you may well be interested in this little beauty! Now the title doesn't sound up to much - "The Old Barrio Guide To Low Rider Music 1950-1975" - but wait until you see what's in it. Basically Low Rider music was the soundtrack for young Mexican/Latino teenagers to cruise around in their cars to. The music is mainly ballads and soul classics such as "Hello Stranger", that kind of thing, in other words - the B sides of the records we are interested in, and therefore many, many Northern Soul tracks and artists are mentioned. There's also a stack of fascinating information about label owners, studios and record producers. Anyway, this book contains an A to Z of the artists and records favoured by this Low Rider scene and it's an absolute treasure trove for anyone interested in obscure Northern Soul artists. For instance - there's features on: Admirations Carltons Citations Linda Carr Johnny Bartel Commands Jimmy Conwell Tony Clarke Chuck Corby Cynthia & The Imaginations Autographs Attractions Ruby Andrews Bleu Lights... That's just from opening random pages in the A, B and C sections. Hundreds of photographs of the artists including Brothers Of Soul Royal Jesters Gene Chandler Elgins (male group) Informers Frankie Karl Royal Chessmen Little Ray Vanguards Ronnie Walker Younghearts Etc And to top it off, there are 8 full colour pages of record scans. All in all, a cracking read and very reasonably priced too. I bought this book just as a hunch it might have some useful information on those obscure artists and was blown away by it and thought it might pay me to see if I can sell a few copies, so here we are. THE BOOK COSTS £15 THE POSTAGE (SENT VIA AIRMAIL FROM THE USA) IS £5 SO THE TOTAL IS £20 I'M MAKING £1.50 PER COPY BEFORE ANYONE ASKS! Anyone wanting a copy of the book, please pay directly into my paypal account (pete.smith@freeuk.com) or ring or email me me to pay via credit card (01902 893569) Please allow 14 days for delivery PETE SMITH PLANET RECORDS 28 JENKS ROAD WOMBOURNE WOLVERHAMPTON WV5 0BL 01902 893569 pete.smith@freeuk.com
