It came about because the originator of the term couldn't pronounce "substandard throwaway B side fodder"

A Must For All Djs
When they first opened the shops at telford, when it was a new town, they sent out one of these to almost every household in the west midlands, it featured Ed Stewpot Stewart telling everyone that he was going to be opening the carrefour(?) warehouse in telford. Plastic flexidisc that you played with a pin or something that was stuck in the card packaging. Circa 1974.

No Jerry this one's a vocal, must be a different single then.- Amazing Uk Tamla Motown Collector
Have you ever seen this guys prices? I doubt if he's ever sold or ever will sell a record. He advertises on Ebid. In the comedy section.- Dealers Who Add "complementary" Freebies In Ebay Orders
Have you played the other side of that, I think it's really good, unless they had another single - in which case it's the b side of that! One of the b sides is good anyway. I'll get me coat.- Epitome, Heatherton, Queen City, Tamla Motown Demos

Kenny - Russ played it early 77, as mentioned above, it wasn't played for long because all those bootleg copies hit the scene, it was covered as Sherry Gibbs but eventually turned out to be an unissued track by The Fascinations. Mark if you're going by tapes that Minshull played it I can't argue with it but I know I got an emidisc done of it in the first few months of 77 and within weeks it was useless as it had been pressed. In fact I remember playing it on a tape on the coach to Wigan and none of them had ever heard it!- Rip - Alex Chilton
What a great voice he had. I never really 'got' Big Star but "The Letter" by the Box Tops is among my all time favourites. There used to be two youtube clips of this, both were identical except in one they had been overdubbed by the record and on the second they were playing it live, the vocals on the live one were fantastic.- Dealers Who Add "complementary" Freebies In Ebay Orders
How about "sellers who sell things on ebay, refund the money and still send the records"? About 5 weeks back I sold about 50 items, for some reason I never got confirmation that 5 of them had been paid for so after a fortnight or longer, the buyers asked me where their records were. I told them I always post out within 24 hours and there must be a good reason like the postman not leaving a note for them. Turns out I'd still got the records, got no confirmation off ebay, so I apologised sincerely, refunded their monies included postage and then sent them the records anyway. I should have checked myself, so it was my fault. I lost about £60 altogether. Better than one negative feedback though eh?- Billy Sha-Rae - I'm Gone Dark Red Label
Well the demo is rare I guess, but it's such a poor version I still wouldn't pay more than £20 for it, demo or not- Billy Sha-Rae - I'm Gone Dark Red Label
You surely can not be serious?- Billy Sha-Rae - I'm Gone Dark Red Label
Twenty quid. Thirty if you're desperate. God there are some mugs around, I'm going to have to seriously think about tripling my prices.- Clueless

Does this protect the seller from having to tell you whether you're buying a bootleg or not?- Northern Soul Film
But they were called discos in those days, what's wrong with that? There was not another word for nightclubs, youthclubs etc that played music. They were discos.- Cinderellas & The Girlfriends @ Colpix
The Cinderellas is quite rare on UK, I paid about £0 for a demo in the late 80's (I wouldn't have if I'd heard it first LOL cracking girl group sound but I thought it was going to be Northern)- Id These Two Video Clips
Well put together but nicked from all over the place, several different sources in there. (Way Of The Crowd is correct by the way)- Id These Two Video Clips
Both correct, Geno is definitely from the Soul Function dvd documentary, and the other clip is indeed "In the club".- Northern Soul Film
Soul Sam insisted he played Hawaii 5-0 as a joke. Was it played widespread, I know it was played at our youth club a few times.- Northern Soul Film
I think maybe some may read it as I was saying everyone should have liked it, what I meant was that anyone of my age at the time (15) would not have questioned the integrity of it and worry about Northern Soul being commercialised. I'd just bought Under My Thumb, Wade in the water, Festival time, The Jo©ker, Wigans Ovation and The Javells not long before that, what did I know? Come to think of it, when did all that stuff become illegal, when was I banned from liking the Paula Parfitts and the Lynne Randells?- Northern Soul Film
Kazoo. If you hear the original Footsee it's much slower than the one you all love. Slower and even more horrible.- Northern Soul Film
You're all f*cking liars trying to make yourselves look cool you loved it, you loved the neighbours asking your Mum if you were one of them Northern Soul dancers they saw on top of the pops- Northern Soul Film
What the f*ck has Wigans Chosen Few got to do with This England? I was at both nights when they filmed This England and I was one of those who refused to go onto the floor out of principal, it wasn't just the "best dancers" it was half the people who would normally have been on the floor. It was two and a half years after Footsee, when Footsee was broadcast it was my dream to go to Wigan, by the time of This England I'd been over 50 times. You're missing the point, Footsee was an ignition point for a lot of people.- Northern Soul Film
I'd say anyone who witnessed that TOTP episode took something from it, it was the talk of the school and youth club for weeks, I'm sure anyone who says "Yes I saw it but I hated the commercialisation of the scene caused by it" needs to get a life/is a f*ckwit. 1975, 15 years old, it was almost too EXCITING! - Northern Originals For Sale
