  1. Mikey, I can't take the credit for the Rufus Lumley, as it was Ian who played it first...Ian Stewart had the LP, and fairly soon after that I started playing it when I picked up one from Danny Everard - still got it in fact, so I'll have to put it in in the box for the reunion!
  2. You won't hear any argument from the rest of us, Clarky was the leader and we all followed on as best we could ...and if Ian's embarrassed about the adulation I'm sure it will pass when he realises that he's always been appreciated!
  3. That says it all Dave - except you forgot the odd socks!
  4. Any chance of scanning that letter in Baz? Neil Donkins missing records was a BIG talking point at the time, he finally got them back of course but I always got the feeling that it was all done to warn him not to "get above his station"!...flashing that amount around, in vinyl or cash, wasn't a great idea...
  5. No mate, Neil Donkin never DJ'd at Yate.
  6. I've texted Rich Marsh from the first line-up, hopefully he'll be along as well...oh, and talking to Paul O'Brien over a pint last night, he confirmed that he DID do a spot once, when either Roch or Bob Turner were (mentally or physically ) missing...
  7. Oh yes, remember that well!
  8. ...plus the "Right Track" (vocal) pressing with large 45, moulded label and fake stamp...Mr. Manship posted the full info on that one somewhere...
  9. ...only that "I'll save the last dance" was done twice, once as a straight answer to the Drifters at the time, then remade for Ranwood in the late 60's in a dancier version which was a Levine spin in in 72'ish...
  10. And that was at the time when we were using the DJ booth at the side of the dancefloor, with the legendary "backroom boys" (Widd, Ady, Roger Stewart etc) in the area behind - all vinyl purchases were carefully scrutinised and approved by the boys as you passed through to put 'em in your box! Magic!
  11. And to prove it...here he is at Yate with Dave T in '78.
  12. Nooo, he was much too shy ....as Snooky's coming over, is he going to be official record box carrier? Going to have to ask Neil Self very nicely if I can borrow the L. Allen I sold him so I can play it on the night!
  13. Mac was definitely in the line-up during Dink's promotions; one more that springs to mind then is Danny Everard, who did a spot or two when the upstairs room was open, and Tony Warot who did a main room guest spot in early '79.
  14. Are there two labels on this? I bought it in the late 80's on a US 12" single with a cream label, is this a second issue?
  15. I think if most people were honest they'd have to agree Roger, but as they say "familiarity breeds contempt". Just take a moment to think back at the effect that it had, loud, at your favourite niter...goosebumps alert!
  16. Completing a run of flyers....takes anoraking to a new level! Love it! Dad
  17. It has "AZ" scratched in the runout...
  18. To be fair Steve, even quite recently one highly respected dealer was still unsure about that first Sam and Kitty pressing (assuming it was that cream couloured one which weighs quite heavy!)
  19. Mark, Zahid's been doing some shows with us on GFM recently, as long as Ellie will let him out, he'll be at the December do...come to think of it, she'll probably be there as well. Can't wait!
  20. Had a sad phone call from Steve "Budgie" Burgess this morning, informing me that Sue Paris (Susie Campbell as she was in the 70's) has passed away. Sue was one of our crowd, Micky Beatons girlfriend at the time, and we shared countless journeys to Yate. Although not on the scene, I used to see her fairly often in town, so this news is gutting. My thoughts are with hubby Alan and all her family and friends. Here's a memory of happier times, Yate 1979, Sue is top row to the right of Alison Playfair.
  21. Has anyone? I've been told several times that they don't exist?
  22. Didn't realise that - ahead of his time again! Obviously didn't reach its full potential at the time...
  23. I'd suggest Ian Clark at Yate
  24. Is it, as they say, ahem..."Fine for dj'ing"?
  25. Wonder who played it to death after Clarkie dropped it...answers on a postcard...
