  1. What do you need to know, no expert, but I put 8 in my pond ten years ago there are now over 50 in there!
  2. Hi John, 7209......that's the problem when you collect labels by numbers, miss a digit and you get a completely different record
  3. If it's Tim, he doesn't have either of them. They're on his wish list. PS: Thought Tim had his own list, these things drop through my letterbox every week.....and hasn't he been collecting for more than 30 years Ian?
  4. Does your man have my top wants? : Reflection "Four walls and a telephone" (Wand) Lee Charles on Hot Wax 7208 Steve
  5. As I am not a member of the "upper echeleon", I wouldn't know.
  6. What a strange thread, not at all what I was expecting. I have heard of mystery buyers but not mystery sellers before with mystery records and mystery prices. Still if all these deals have been done it can't be all that bizarre! He's not sitting on a pressing machine is he and pressing them up on demand?
  7. Black Rock Educators has an excellent deep soul side too, but guess most people want the faster side.....I did play this at Soul Essence a couple of times, but it didn't go.
  8. Hi Andy, well put and good to hear from you. Steve
  9. Still relatively unknown - I actually reviewed it in In The Basement magazine uncovered a couple of years ago, and no one clocked it. Think it might be a bit slow for some.......Steve
  10. Yes interesting indeed, and I remember John telling me something about this a few years back.
  11. Agree with you Jayne, we are not brown nosing, just calling it as we see it as far as Richard and his immense contribution is concerned. But the implication was that we were over egging it......I don't buy that. Andy peebles and Def Leppard - why am I not surprised!!!

Hi Gareth, I am sure you remember a full floor swaying friom side to side and singing along to the chorus at the Raynescourt?
  13. OK well we are moving off topic a bit here, but suffice to say that back in the days of Peebles, Vincent etc soul music was trendy, and a recognised music genre. So it was perhaps easier to 'do a soul show'. If my memory serves me correctly Vincent started off as the BBC's Northern Ireland correspondant didn't he? The point I have been trying to make is that Richard has championed the music throughout unfashionable times, and for that alone he gets a big thumbs up from me. Every week, year in year out for nigh on 30 years - come on man where are your "Emperor Rosko" types now? Surely we can regret the demise of Richard's show without implications of sycophantic behaviour and implications of brown nosing? I take no prisoners and always call it as I see it, and I see it that Richard has done a great service to us all with his show - even if I am not a regular listener these days. Let's hope he is back with a regular show soon.

It was played at Soul Essence for a while, about 15 years ago.
  15. Well of course, and indeed I did a radio show for over five years myself and damn fine it was too . However the point of my post was to emphasise the time RS has been involved on radio playing good new releases, so when people bring up names like Peebles, for comparrison we can put it in perspective, that's all.
  16. I am sorry to hear this about Richard's show. He's been at the top of the new release game for decades now. Frankly 'fly by nights' like Andy Peebles don't even come close! Andy was a bit of a "Somebody" on Radio 1 for a couple of years in the 70s - wow! Sorry guys and galls but it is not those championing Richard that need to get a sense of perspective here! By comparrison Richard has made sure the 'show goes on', on a series of far less attractive stages (Red Rose and Hallam for example) for nearly 30 years - now that IS some achievement. Let's hope Richard is back on air soon.
  17. Thanks for clearing the dates up Dave.
  18. That's correct and time wise I can pin down when I got my copy to an alldayer at The Bass Museum, Burton, when Andy dyson turned up with it. It's probably longer ago than we think as they haven't been any there for at least 2 years now. It was after Roy's UK appearance as no one knew of it then. When it started getting played everyone thought they'd ring Roy up and get it but Roy as you say had none left.
  19. Yes Honey Bees has never turned up, though like Just Brothers it did get a release number. One day someone may turn one up, but I suspect these were just numbers given to the records and that Scepter went instead with the Garrison inprint at the end of the day. One Garrison release that did come out on Wand however was "Humphrey stomp". Walter Wilson yes a Wand holy grail. I know of Mick Smith's which is cracked, mine and Soul Sam's. I am sure one or two other hands will go up as they always do , but it was apparantly pulled from release post pressing due to a contractual dispute and never got out of the offices, except for the engineer / producer etc. There are some other really hard ones too such as J Kelly & The Premiers in the 70s which was mispressed and re-put out on Roadshow. I'd imagine that most of them got smashed. I've never seen the second Lee Charles or the second Reflection 45s either - think it was called "Four walls and a phone" or something. ANother one I've not seen from the 60s is Jesse Hill. And one of MAxine's later efforts is also a mystery. All of this makes Wand such a Delite-ful label to collect
  20. That's the point, complete radio silence for four months, no wonder people are going to get increasingly angry when they hear nothing in return.
  21. No just pointing something out Fingers.......
  22. Played it a couple of years back, it was a regular at the local soul clubs round here......very good tune.
  23. Amazed at how much innacurate stuff there is on this thread. No Mick Smith doesn't have every Wand release, no, Carlena doesn't exist on Wand as far as anyone is aware. And Ed Bruce is hard to find but isn't as rare as the Ivories Fingers. It does show up although it also fetches a lot of money. There's three or four copies of the Ivories known on Wand, and the last one went for £1,300 ish, not some of the numbers mentioned on here. As for the other copies of The Ivories, probably thrown out, or sitting in someone's basement somewhere......
  24. My most famous trip was to an evening do on a Friday. I was living in Kent. Left work early and got the 5 30-ish Hull train from Kings Cross to Goole.....thence by Bus from Goole to the Highwaymans, I was there before 8 and it hadn't opened. A great night ensued, Poke, Arthur, Sam etc. and at the end of the night at about 1 am or 2 am, no way of getting back. So I cobbled a lift in Sam's car (the blue Vauxhall Chevette), and he kindly ran me to Doncaster station. From there I got a night train at about 3.15 am full of both drunk and fast alseep Scots and Geordies! Back to London by 7 am, across town, and on another train to Tonbridge, and I was still home at Mum's in time for a late breakfast!!! And you tell the kids that today, and they won't believe you!
