  2. Not Soul I know, but a friend of mine went to a Church Fete last year. Amongst the folding wallpaper pasting tables was an old lady in her late 70s selling home sponge cakes and scones. He went over with his wife to buy a few scones and a cake. When they were waiting to be served he noticed a few boxes on the floor. One had some old Womans Own magazines and another had some 45s. He picked up the box and started to look through them. He had never heard of hardly any of the artists, but they were all unplayed, in original sleeves and mostly demos. He asked the lady how much they were and she said a pound. He turned to his wife and said how much change have you got I may as well buy a few I have heard of. The old lady said, No, a £1 for them all. He had 67 singles in the box. They were all mainly 60s psychadelia, all mint all unplayed. Amongst them was The Fleur De Lys on Polydor, the Robert Plant singles prior to Led Zeppelin. I totalled the value up against the Record Collector valuations and it came to just over two grand. Now I ask you, Church Fete, little old lady, hand of God, who knows. How did they get there ? But it is the truth.

  6. I believe that the footage came from last years concert Live With Levi at the Detroit Symphony Hall. I spoke to two people who went to see the show and there was not a dry eye in the house. For me he was not just the lead singer of the Four Tops, he was the voice of Motown. Listen to their records from the 60s, 70s or the 80s or watch any of their shows and you know that they could really do the business. True professionals through and through. Kev Jones
  7. Hi, We went to the Blackpool Weekender and thoroughly enjoyed it. We stayed at The Hilton and I thought it really was a luxury weekend. Food was really excellent, ok the drinks were pricy but you have to improvise. Thought Lenny Williams was really good. Everybody seemed to be having a great time and the music was really enjoyable. A lot of new tunes for me. All in all, we were well pleased. Kev
  8. Hi Gene, I have the complete set of the Sounds Superb, Music For Pleasure and Regal Starline and Marks and Spencers Motown related LPs. Give me a day or so and I will give you the complete list. One of the best is Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, The Onion Song. I am sure I have about 5 or 6 doubles. Can you e-mail me your e-mail address. Kev
  9. Has anyone got a tape of Richard Searling's Cellar Full Of Soul Show on Smooth FM 100.4 from Saturday just gone, July 9th. If anyone can help me out I would be most grateful. Kev Jones
  10. I heard today that Obie Benson of the Four Tops had undergone emergency surgery to remove one of his legs. The operation I believe, was carried out over this past weekend. Will relay further details as and when I know the latest. I would like to pass on my sincere wishes that Obie gets better as soon as possible and is home amongst his family. Obie Benson apart from being an original member of the Four Tops co-wrote the timeless classic song with Marvin Gaye, What's Going On. I am sure all Soul Source members would like to wish him well and pass on their sentiments for a speedy recovery. Kevin Jones
  11. My choice would be, Chris Clark, any track really, such a soulful voice. Dusty Springfield, superb home grown talent. Her version of the Walter Jackson classic Welcome Home is amazing. Robert John, always loved Raindrops Love and Sunshine I am pretty sure that Jimmy Beaumont was the lead singer of The Skyliners who had the 50s hit Since I Don't Have You.
