  1. If you think you have heard all the sounds there are then get down to Middleton. I have and I had heard nearly ALL the sounds they played in the main room. A lot are from play lists from Soul or Nothing...a few years ago. Eddie Japer Daye, Jonathan Capree etc.... Now, im not knocking it, just saying that i personally, like a bit of anticipation (with regard to music) from a nighter and Middleton doesn't do it for me. I think, if you dont get out to soul nights aswell as nighters, you may be assuming that the nighters are where the new stuff is being played and broken, but, in my experience, they often get it way after the event. Soul nights all over the country including, Three Greyhounds, Greatstone, Lowton, Mansfield, etc (sorry for all those i haven't named!) are all just as responsible for maintaining a sense of excitement on the scene and are often the places where a real sense of the orginal, musical ,ethos of nighters, is still maintained. Each to his own, obviously. But I had to answer the statement.
  2. Thanks for the help.
  3. Paul, it ain't just the music it's going out to enjoy yourself,if you don't then ok,but lots do whatever their taste is.For a long time now l have returned to allnighters and have a feckin ball the key here is not to hammer it (every week ). When I do go out, I do it with an open mind and the desire for it to be good. That means people who want to dance, a wide variety of music and a good venue. But, usually and maybe the problem is most nighters play the same stuff, its disappointing! I often drive the 400 mile round trip up North to attend a nighter.....its a long way believe me. Especially when a nighter advertises itself as something, but fails to deliver. The same guests seem to be doing the rounds, playing the same stuff! So you can attend three different, big nighters in a short space of time and hear the same stuff hammered! I want to hear some NEW people playing out, then I have a chance of being excited and dancing a bit more (and I love dancing!). Its almost like a circuit of the same old same old...So, YES, its probably about going out less, which my recent experiences have certainly inspired.
  4. Nah Simsy...lots of scallies/chavs into petty car crime...smash and grab stuff looking for tool boxes...electronic equipment etc...I very much doubt it was soulies...they probably saw this big flight case and wondered what was in it...don't think it's any more sinister than that Id say they knew what to look for....would seem a bit random otherwise! If not, you need to scour junk shops as the thieves wont know what they have? Terrible mate, i feel for you.!

Your First mistake..... sadly!. They are YOUR ears, if you like a record then dance to it, don't let other peoples preducaces spoil your enjoyment of the music...... no matter WHAT it is

  8. Its the pipe and slipper brigade, pub disco mob, A soul night its like kissing your sister, its not the real thing,NOTHING is more exciting than getting ready to go out for a nighter, you get goose bumps when you hear the music as you get near the venue. Kev mmmmmmmmm? Goose bumps hearing the music. ? Maybe in the 70s/80s. Now? I just get depressed as i hear the same old tunes as soon as i walk through the doors and think " Oh No, not again, why am i here. I said never again last time. Wheres my sister?"..
  9. Week enders have been the way forward for 20 years. Because the gear is shit and does not last long enough. All nighters are so out of fashion.....with the newer music on todays scene. My life is fecked up after 31 years of drug abuse, being smashed and asking the very same questions you are asking. And even today after it all that, society still has no place for me - fact. I value the music more than the folks that front it - yes in certain cases. And viewing the recent oldies allniter pictures on the galleries on SS - I shudder at the geared up over 50's monsters. Having collected records and still collecting - why would I travel from my home to hear lesser tunes at other peoples expense including mine. Thank you. Nick.
  10. What does the LP go for now? TEMPESTS many thanks

Do you prefer to play a set that you want to because your want to put your taste of what your feeling at the said time in your life or do you just play to the crowd and what they hope you should have in your play box Should only have what you like in your play box....or any other box for that matter! with exception of your sales box! I always hope the DJ has something i haven't heard in their playbox, same as I always have!
  12. because the nighter scene is stale and boring thats why ive not been anywhere .....ive had maybe 3 nites out all year....i rarely went out last year but everytime i did...same old blah blah music...my theory is now some time away from it may renew my enthusiasm ...but i doubt it... cookie Totally agree.....I enjoy soul nights more than nighters, because people usually commit to that blast of energy. Most Allnighters fizzle off at 2ish , as people get more pissed. Also, same as Cookie, the music is mostly repetitive and boring! Some places you arrive and you know your doomed to a night of the same old battered tunes...depressing!!

  17. Unfortunately not ....... The Nuremberg Rallies (officially Reichsparteitag , meaning national party convention ) was the annual rally of the NSDAP ( Nazi Party ) in the years 1923 to 1938 in Germany , especially after Hitler's rise to power in 1933 , They were large propaganda events by the state . The Reichsparteitage were held annually at the Nazi party rally grounds in Nuremberg from 1933 to 1938 and are thus usually referred to in English as the Nuremberg Rallies . After 1933 , the rallies were held in the first half of September , under the label of Reichsparteitage des deutschen Volkes ( "National Congress of the Party of the German People ") , which was meant to symbolize the solidarity between the German people and the Nazi Party . This point was further emphasized by the yearly growing number of participants , which finally reached over half a million from all sections of the party , the army and the state . Malc Burton Now thats educational!
  18. Good post Paul...I sort of get the reasoning behind it now...but you've gone and let the cat out of the bag hey, im saying that it works for us ( a small soul room). Each venue has to decide for itself what works best and develop that! Dont think there can be only one way of doing it. Just saying that half hour sets require as much involvement , soul and musical inspiration as 1, 2 ,3 hour sets etc. I dont think one is easier or harder than the other.
  19. SOULIES WITH HAIR BAZ A would that have many in Baz?
  20. Seems to be a trend to advertise nights under THE MOST WELL ATTENDED NIGHTER or THE LONGEST RUNNING NIGHTER or THE BIGGEST IN THE WORLD Is any of it really relevent? The number off people in a room, or if an event has been held a million times doesn't really guarantee a good night, they are merely historical facts. Im just wondering, in this race to out do each other, what other titles they could come up with?
  21. Fook me Joan that's a really short time! Does that not piss off your guest DJs? That's only a handful of records...might as well play one on one off On the contrary, it means they cant f--k off and not listen and pay attention to whats going on in the room. They have to stay connected to the night and particularly the music. I NEVER know what im going to play at DDA because i have to listen to whats going on that night....what the guests and other residents are playing. If i have a pre planned set, it may be like driving a square peg into a round hole and f--k the nights flow up. We also dont have guests rolling in just before their spot and leaving after. Its a WHOLE NIGHT and not an individual platform. The half hour spots means there are no egos in terms of "I must be on at the peak time" and also ALL the djs have to actually contribute to the night by listening aswell as playing. At a lot of events I go to, its as if the dj's are ALL seperate entities and not working together at all. As Joan said , it works very well for us and in the same way that people are saying that 2 hours is the real test, believe me, half hour spots have to be very well chosen and felt and require total committment to the night. A test in itself.
