  1. As is generally the case, Chuck Corby owns "Those Lonely Nights" and was totally unaware of this version until last Year. I'm sure this is just an oversight on the part of the producers of this tune, though it may well be a coincidence that "Breakaway" sounds incredibly similar to "Those Lonely Nights". Des Parker
  2. Over the last 30 Years or so, I've bought, sold, traded, rebought, sold, found virtually all of the records above and I'm sure there are many, many more people on this site in the same boat, if not moreso. To us, we've "grown up" with these tunes, and to us they are the "same old same old". This doesn't mean that they are bad records, and I'm kinda envious of those of you hearing these for the first time, but I can't be dishonest and pretend these are somehow fresh tunes! If you got £10 for Ruby Andrews in the "80's" you were doing well!!! Des Parker
  3. Nice minty copy here Bearsy, £10 including postage (PM me for details) Des Parker
  4. I look at it from a different direction, it's not about finances, D.J.'s who play a set of bootlegs/Reissues are lazy and unimaginitive, and have no concept of digging around for fresh, exciting, vibrant, soulful, underplayed sounds. Give them £10 and they'll buy a bootleg of "Tony Galla", whereas someone who "gets it" would "hunt" around for something like "The Voicemasters - You've Hurt me Baby". These people don't have ANYTHING to bring to the table apart from the obvious, and are just putting another nail in the coffin of something that should be continuously exciting and fresh, instead of the stale, tired nostalgia scene we seem to be getting more and more of. 13. I appreciate that they're billed as the "Bee Gee Stans Of Detroit" but this track on "Tal Vert" was included on the "Ol' Virginia Soul volume 3" compilation, haven't got the C.D. or sleeve notes to hand, maybe needs confirmation one way or the other. Des Parker What's on the Detroit Astra label, from the listing, or am I being a bit thick/forgetful.

Knowing you Russ, and in my opinion, any venue you get involved with, would be different and something fresh! I do think that you are absolutely right in waiting, with what 30 plus events on tonight, with approximately 4 D.J.'s/collectors on at each, that's 120 plus people committed to venues for a start, many of which could be part of your target audience - it's a f***ing nightmare, and as Jayne rightly says, a "recession" could be a good thing! Des Parker

There's certainly no shortage of "D.J.'s" and I couldn't even begin to imagine what the proportion of "D.J.'s" is to "Non D.J.'ing" customers on our scene, but it must be a lot higher than other music based scenes, is this phenomonon the same on the Rock & Roll/Funk/Mod or whatever scenes? Will less venues mean that more people will be hanging up their headphones, or will they just start new venues? The "cull the crap D.J.'s" is a mantra that all of us like the sound of, but what is a crap D.J. - someone who plays stuff we don't know, plays stuff we do know, plays too much 70's, 60's, R & B, uses the mic too much, doesn't use the mic enough, or is technically brilliant with fabulous records....but is a c**t. Isn't this most peoples honest view of the situation - "less venues is potentially a great thing, if they're the ones playing the stuff I don't want to hear, played by people I percieve as Crap D.J.'s".....................................but that's only an opinion, of which we all have a different one. I don't think there's a lot on in Swindon (if there is it's not very well advertised) but plenty in Cheltenham/Gloucester/Bristol. The extremely popular "Soulfusion" is on next - lots of cheesy, but good oldies and an absolutely cracking Modern room. If you want a bit more "upfront" 60's/R & B then give the Riverside, or Pete French's doo's a try!! Haven't been to Dean's event yet, but it's got a very good reputation. Lots of excellent choice there, plus a few C.D./bootleg events that from a passionate soul fan's perspective, could be described as "Shite" at best, though good fun I expect, if you're not fussy!! Des Parker
  18. I know that a copy of Margaret Littles was bought for $7 and sold for £4000!!! Des Parker
