No Kids or grand kids.. just squandered it all on the northern soul scene, clothes , going out, gear, Ford Zodiacs, scooters. travelling round the country at the drop of a hat from one soul do to an allnighter, the 90s were awesome. Still have vivid dreams about it all . too much to take .totall fucked up before we realised it was too late to start a family. but dont regret a thing xx .

Manchester Ritz
Thats it yeh ! thought it was a strange dream from the 90s that didnt really happen ! But before the Ritz, it was a northern soul warm up full of strange and wonderful characters all on edge awaiting the niter !

Ive used all my thumbs up. great thread. the 90s, second bite of the cherry, still young enough , hot steamy dancefloors, cigarettes, freedom, the masses totally oblivious to us . gear a plenty, I mean Wigan was amazing , but in the 90s, we were old enough to appreciate things more... feckin brilliant decade

i dropped out after wigan then Stafford, then got back into the scene in 89, right through the 90s it was such a cool underground scene, we had the time of our lives.

The 90s was a cool time for the Northern Soul scene.. There was probably only 1000 max into the scene that you would see everywhere , Keele, Ritz, Blackburn, Winsford, Bretby, Kings Hall (when it started).. same faces everywhere, just before the internet it was very underground, relied on fliers and word of mouth .

We went several times in the 90s to the niters. I remember going to a warm up night up the road in a small underground club that used to be a public toilets. Remember queuing up outside the Ritz and swarms of strangley dressed people (bubble wrap jacket ?? !) were going past us to the Hacienda ... Them looking at us curiously , and vice versa... two allnighter scenes but we were first ..😉. As Steve said, musty toilets and the sprung floor was interesting, if you hit it at the wrong time it threw you off your step ha ! . Heres me and Sarah on the steps to the stage in 1998 , check out the bingo hall carpet..

Just to add.. We were aware of the film being planned, then one day saw an advert on a classic car forum "Wanted 1960s and early 70s cars for upcoming feature film , expenses paid " . well, i knew what the film was straight away and sent an email ! . Several weeks later, they got in touch asking us to be at this place in Bury ( a disused mill/factory piece of land ) . then on the day they contacted me saying they had enough cars, so wouldnt need us ! I replied, saying I'd bring our car up for free !! I couldnt miss this !! They agreed .. So the next day we drove from Cannock to Bury in our old relic, our 1969 VW Karmann Ghia , made it there and were immediately engulfed in a 1975 timewarp, old cars everywhere, actors walking round in 70s clothes, it was truly amazing ! I will never forget it .. We met Elliot and Josh ( the two stars ) they were great lads . There was a fantastic catering van , we could eat the best food and drink for free, and we roamed around the costume department looking at all the vintage clothing !! we were in our element !! We watched the filming, take after take it was fascinating. The best was when we were given a walky talky and had to drive past the graffitti whilst a camera van passed us, action ! start driving .. its in the film near the end whilst Time will pass you by was being played.. A great two days 😀

Heres some pics from several years back. Sarahs old VW was used in a few small scenes in the Northern Soul film and we did a drive by in one scene past the graffitti. The two days we were there for filming in Bury were a great experience . I went back round the streets the next day in the car to snap the graffitti as the work men were washing it off, Just managed to capture it all before it was gone forever
