Discogs buyer Hiro77 - any problems?
Has anyone had any problems with Discogs buyer Hiro77 from Japan? He seems to be a soul collector, so I thought some others might have experienced what's just happened to me. I am not making specific allegations as the case is still under review by Paypal, but I thought I ought to publicise just what happened on here so any other sellers who deal with him in future might know what they could potentially be up against. It's a familiar story - he buys a record in July, waits nearly three months, then requests a chargeback as an unauthorised transaction. Weird thing is, the very same day he does this, he leaves me positive feedback. I message him and ask what's going on, and he claims ignorance. I message him again, sending him what Paypal have just sent me, and he simply replies: "I paid the money". All further messages are ignored. This wasn't an expensive record, so it wasn't sent tracked and, therefore, I'm just going to have to suck it up. If anyone else has had a similar experience with this guy, I'd be glad to hear about it. Other than that, I'd just advise any sellers to beware if you get an order from him, and send it tracked if at all possible. Thanks

Flowers - For Real - 2 versions?
Paid £150 for mine in 1989. The new bootleg is awful, btw. Hissy and so Lo-Fi as to be almost pointless. If you're thinking of buying one, spend your money on a nice bottle of wine instead...
-
Flowers - For Real - 2 versions?
Yes, that's right. Came in at over 7 minutes I think.

Flowers - For Real - 2 versions?
I've been in touch with the seller of this and they say that the sound file came from a customer who claimed to have recorded it from the original 45. I sent them a sound file I had of my original 45 and, as described in the opening post, it's 25 seconds longer than theirs. Anyone out there got a real one that's only 3.45 long? Or are they all 4.10 and the shorter version is just a home-made edit. As I said earlier, the only reason I can imagine for anyone doing this is to distinguish it from the original, but with full-length sound files readily available, why would anyone boot an edited version? Beats me.
-
Flowers - For Real - 2 versions?
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere, but I was hoping someone might be able to clear this up for me. Having owned the original of Flowers - For Real for about 30 years, I sold it last year due to excessive skintness. Seeing a new boot pop up on Ebay I couldn't resist it and ordered one. It turned up today, but it seems to be a shorter version than the one I had, with the second part of the opening verse, where he says "Every time you walk my way..." missing. Checked on Youtube and there do seem to be two versions on there, one without this part and another with it. It's also interesting that the timing on the label of the record (original and boot) says 3.45, whereas my original came in at 4.10. Does anyone know if there are, in fact, two released versions of this, or is the shorter one just an abridged version someone has mocked up, perhaps to distinguish it from the original 45? Any help much appreciated...

Timi Yuro joke
Surely this Timi Yuro should be reported to Ebay? It looks like every effort has been made to pass this off as real. OK, you'd have to be a dummy to fall for it, but just because you're a dummy doesn't mean you deserve to be ripped off. I haven't witnessed blatant criminality like this since the last time the BHS share dividend was announced...

Unknown Motown-related acetate - anyone identify the artist?
Just listened to that and, although there are similarities in the voice, to my ears Rio sounds a bit more croonerish than this fella, but who knows? Thanks for the post, in any case. Wasn't aware of that version.
-
Unknown Motown-related acetate - anyone identify the artist?
Yes. It's a bit of a mystery. Sounds a little like a lot of UK beat singers from the early/mid-sixties, which is what made me think it was British. Label is just your standard Emidisc one from the time with no information whatsoever. Time to call in Poirot, perhaps?
-
Unknown Motown-related acetate - anyone identify the artist?
Not strictly soul, but definitely soul-related. I have a one-sided Emidisc acetate of what sounds like a white British artist doing a slow version of the Smokey-penned What Love Has Joined Together. Can't find any info on British artists ever releasing this, so I'm assuming it's unissued. Anyone knows better or can identify the artist, I'd be grateful. Thanks in advance what love.mp3

Current Bootleg Trading (split from Soul Pack thread)
Just checked Pete Smith's guide against my Jeanie Tracey and the matrix numbers are spot on. There are no other identifying marks and, from the scan put up earlier this week, the labels look the same, too. Although I obviously haven't seen the actual record, from what I've seen and read on here it would, I'm guessing, be pretty tricky to distinguish between this new boot and the original. Annoying for me as I was toying with the idea of selling, but also begs the question: if there was never any intent to deceive, why replicate the matrix numbers so exactly?
