  1. Are there still sellers doing 50/100 packs anywhere? J

Exactly and I trust folk on here know how to grade, and how to pack a record for post!
  3. Sorry Haydn, was a bit grumpy there... been a long day!
  4. Historical order has nothing to do with two sounds being similar and pointing it out makes no logical or lexical sense, unless you are judging authenticity. In this instance I was not
  5. Drip Drop is 50's doo-wop tinged rock and roll - a nice example of it cause the Drifters have always been class, and some might want to call it R&B and play it out, but its not is it? sounds like Shaking Stevens!

Is he bidding against himself? I read it as e***t bidding once low then a****n sticking in their bid high, and then e****t bidding two dollars at a time trying to work out how high a***n had bid. Each time he bids ebay proxy bidding means he is outbid. Think he got fed up at £530 which is where a***n wins the auction. Edit: actually looking at it I cant work it out either - crazy!

Perhaps your right, there are some dodgy buyers out there and they do try and scam with the partial refund angle, but some sellers grades are a mile off, and "rinked" records sold as EX is the trend at the minute. There are some genuine buyers getting stung with rubbish too.

Well, I just got stung again, three records graded VG+ which should mean decent playable records. They look like they have been stored in a bag of nails. Cant sell em on as I would not dare to sell em on here. last lot that came like this I had to practically give them away, lost $£$£ on em... My advice, buy graded records from dealers, from their own shops or on here, not ebay. Never again for me
  9. nah, stupid idea, ignore me!
  10. Think that's the ticket, perhaps its wrong to suggest that bootlegs don't have a place, some of them are collectable in their own right. Personally I just think that they should be labelled as such and easy to spot and not cluttering up legitimate sales. I'm sure I've let many an ebay bargain slip through my hands "whats this? nah, too cheap, too clean, must be a boot" Could soul source have its own auction section? I'm not sure how hard it is to implement, so apologies if its loads of work!
  11. Northern Soul on Watchdog you mean??
  12. I wish we were talking about £5/£10 records, but lots of boots are selling for big money now posing as the real deal, and folk who don't know better are being ripped off parting with 100s of pounds.
  13. This is the other problem with eBay UK
  14. Might be part of your scene, but I don't go to the places. Makes me sad. If you use US eBay and there is relatively few, appalling really when you think about it.
  15. I've got a bit of time on my hands this week as I don't go back to work until the 7th so I'm spending my time listening and looking, inevitably that leads me to eVilBay. What I just don't understand is why eBay don't do something about bootlegs. It's absolutely freakin useless searching the UK site, as there are about 10 boots to every one original. This is clearly in contravention of their policy, but they are not nearly as efficient as policing say counterfeit jewellery or clothing? Is there an alternative? can we get eBay to change stuff? could we build one? Shall I just start clicking the report button? J
  16. Crazyness, why bother in the first place? If you are looking for a cheap easy and successful way of cleaning vinyl with no risk attached: a 1:10 mix of isopropol alcohol, deionised water and a touch of antibacterial handwash will make a nice vinyl cleaner (Maplins and Wilkos in the UK works out £1 a ltr) Apply to the record, Clean with a clean toothbrush (two for 19p from ASDA) getting into all the grooves and mop up/buff with a kitchen towel/microfibre cloth. Repeat on really grubby vinyl Takes 5 mins, costs less and makes a better job than PVA
  17. When people say PVA cleaning they are usually talking about a wood glue, titebond is the recommended brand in most audio forums, which is basically PVA so should be no different its personal choice Bob, but I think people need to know what might happen...
  18. I use titebond 2 as recommended by several forums, as I say, works well, and sometimes fixes records that would otherwise not clean by conventional methods, but in my experience it is at a price!
  19. missed that too bob, it does clean em well though - good for cheap stuff!
  20. I only noticed when I graded under a bright lamp to re-sell
  21. yes it does, look for a milky tide mark, where the glue was, not recommended. Used to think it was the dogs nads at one bit, then freaked up a Four Sonics with that trick, never again!
  22. Stains your vinyl, don't try with anything you might want to sell later!
  23. Now on evilbay thanks!
  24. see what you mean Pete, I'll take Mary Wells every day though, The Doctor is sublime and far superior, them two stabs of horn and guitar make it dance really well. Sounds like it should be dead expensive, but it can be had for less than a tenner.
  25. Jhsoulnotts replied to a post in a topic in Look At Your Box
In my experience, of it's over a tenner, best to buy from a dealer who knows his stuff. better risking the wayward grading of some Ebay sellers or catching a boot. Often the price is cheaper than you think.
