  1. Alice Clark - you hit me (right where it hurt me)
  2. I used to play in school band when I was younger, still playing an electric bass but I really miss owning an upright sometimes. Had the worst band teacher known to man who agreed for me to play it in the band, but didn't know the first thing about the instrument and basically just resented me and gave me a hard time, so I had to learn it on my own more or less. awesome to hear that jamerson was playing one on such stonecold classics!
  3. Correct you are MB, thats the tower of the "church of our savior" in Christianshavn
  4. we've created a facebook page now for our club, if anyone here is interested check us out here: https://www.facebook.com/TowerCityGarageandSoul
  5. 'key to my happiness' would definitely send me running for the floor
  6. here's our logo design. loving it!
  7. DEL LARKS - JOB OPENING BARBARA MERCER - HEY!! EPITOME OF SOUND - YOU DON'T LOVE ME LA NIERS - MORE THAN EVER NOW UJIMA - I'M NOT READY (and I never am)
  8. the same reason as anyone shares anything on this forum, a common interest. if someone is after a new box to take to gigs, here's a nice oldie to be had for cheap. nothing more than that, mate.
  9. hah didn't bother to look at the seller's other items. someone cheeky enough could save on shipping and have him fill it up with some of that lingerie!
  10. agreed with Droylsdonian, the floor should be a consideration if you're expecting dancers. our club is at a bar with a sloshy beer-soaked tile floor, which is something I've always wanted to change about our regular venue. also agreed, a good crowded floor will tell you which kind of soul sounds your audience wants from you, but maybe for the first couple nights keep an open ear and an open mind if people come up to you with requests. I'm in general pretty quick to dismiss them and tend to try and avoid those conversations because the venues I've been playing over here generally draw out a crowd who couldn't care less what music is being played regardless, just need something to move to so they can snag a shag for the end of the night. but that kind of attitude is something I've acquired after 2 years of playing various styles at the same venue. it can be a bit tedious or distracting but listening to your audience, especially if its a smaller, more intimate bar or club, is a good way to keep them coming back.
  11. space up top for your needles and some carefully packed talc
  12. not me selling, but just thought I would share here if anyone is after a new box. I am as well, but I think shipping something like this to denmark might be a bit hefty of a pricetag. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VINTAGE-WOODEN-7-INCH-RECORD-CASE-50-S-/350594279270?pt=UK_Home_Garden_CD_DVDStorage_SM&hash=item51a10c2766#ht_483wt_1318
  13. where in California? I'm originally from San Diego, now living in Denmark but have lived around the state a bit too. Bump Shop is a killer name, and depending on the scene surrounding the place hosting it could have a double meaning if you catch my drift
  14. I think of teen beat bands and a general aesthetic of amateur 60's rock n' roll and rhythm & blues sounds, perhaps with a bit more fuzz and recklessness than, say, classic 60's northern. I should note that I'm in no means a pro on this stuff, as I handle the soul end of our club exclusively. but getting me...or probably anyone on this forum...started on 60's soul, thats another story.
  15. HEY ALL, after much deliberation and both of us poring over all your kindly suggestions, we've decided on a name that unfortunately wasn't one of the ones posted. from now on our club will be known as TOWER CITY RYHTHM & SOUL, or just TOWER CITY for shorthand. it represents copenhagen as the city is known as the "city of spires" for all of its centuries-old towers and spires. plus we think it sounds like a vintage label name (I'm sure it probably is?) and gives us a ton of ideas for a club logo. once we've worked out the artwork, I'll post it up here for all to see, PLUS, as a little thank you to all of you who donated the brain energy to help us out with a name I'll also be posting a link to the inaugural night mix cd we'll be giving away to the first attendees. it's not much, but hopefully you'll enjoy our mix of northern and weirdo garage classics. cheers fellow soulies!
  16. thanks so much everyone for your input! we're ideally looking for something that will convey the idea of it being both a soul and garage club.
  17. "Midnight Movers" ala Wilson Pickett is another I've tossed around in the past
  18. a little on the cheesy side, but surprisingly not taken as much as I can find...how do you guys feel about the name "Plan Beat"?
  19. I do always spin a 70's reissue of "I'm Where It's At" I bought off Marc Forrest last year
  20. "Nite Beat" is a great name Russ, but theres already a well-established soul club in San Francisco where I used to live called "Nightbeat". something with "beat" in the name would be stellar.
  21. the jack white version gave me all the symptoms the song suggests, coupled with deep disgust and a fair bit of malice
  22. our old club was called Acid Eyes, which doesn't necessarily represent the soul end of it at all, nor is it really garage. catchy, though. a two word thing like that though seems to be the defining thing with most of the clubs at our spot, so we're thinking along those lines as well. something short and to the point.
  23. no, but those guys do a great club!
