  1. Not only yours, I had no recollection of seeing them either. I'd not looked at the programmes for a long time, no mention of Jimmy Helms in the Dionne Warwicke programme, it says Joey Loren, blurb says he was the first american to be signed directly to a British label Pye. Programme also has Kenny Bernard as appearing. I don't remember either but it was common then for different support acts on different nights so your memory could well be correct.

I mentioned that one a few weeks ago, you are right, Kathryn top quality series well worth another mention.
  3. I had one record out of stock out of three and had refund on postage. This was off the website so maybe there's a disconnect with the two teams sorting the orders
  4. The top right Four Tops is the one with the Tymes as support. I have a spare of the Tops and Spinners programme not been kept very well but you're welcome to ,message me if want it and we'll work something out.
  5. There you go,another old programme should answer your question Cheers ,I've seen the links when you put them up and listened a few times. A good listen.
  6. Belle Vue, those wooden benches we couldn't have been sat any further back, have a vague memory of being cold there too, amazed at women screaming at the sound or just Barry's voice during Walking in the rain, seem to recall the concert was well constructed with the orchestra doing their bit the the ladies leading on to Big bazza himself. Diana Ross for me wasn't "oh I must see her" more didn't want to miss the chance of seeing her, i was surprised how much I enjoyed the gig. On the getting autographs after the Gladys knight finished my mate who was black (can I say that) and had an afro said we are going to the stage door for autographs, When I got there he had disappeared, there were probably about twenty in the queue and we were told Miss Knight will see you five at a time. I could have dropped to the floor when my turn came, my mate was stood there with the group and whether true or not he never changed his story he claimed he even signed a few programmes. Did you see Jimmy Ruffin in either Oldham or Rochdale in a club I can't remember the name of ? Long walk home where we hitched a lift from a bloke in a very small van, only room for one in the front, the rest of us climbed in the back, we'd only gone a mile when there was a furious banging on the back panel ,van skidded to a halt, back doors flew open and my mate screamed get out get out, the bloke had tried to touch him up
  7. I remember that one, lady comedian was very good, don't recall Jimmy Helms , I recall her coming on with a walking stick but though she had had an accident, I don't recall it being a charity event though. these are great memories. We were lucky in that period 71 to 80 to have the chance to see so many major soul acts across all genres in Manchester. One of my memories is deciding at the last minute to go to the first night of the Warner Brothers music tour that was spread over two nights. We had tickets for the second night with the Doobie Brothers and Graham Central Station deciding at 5 o'clock on the night I couldn't miss the chance to see Tower of Power, we were just about to go to the ticket office when a bloke asked did we have tickets.thinking he was a tout we said no, he promptly gave us two tickets, five rows back courtesy of Warner Brothers. I made someone else's night as a guy asked had we any spare tickets ,luckily the Warner brothers chap was still about so i directed him there, he ended up sat behind us. Tower of Power were brilliant, at one point the brass players coming of the stage dancing up and down the aisle still playing, just fabulous.
  8. I saw them twice, first time they were brilliant, second time possibly the one you saw, i only went due to my cousin liking them,by then they were singing Rock and Roll Baby and the like. I wasn't impressed. My memory of the Denice Williams was Lenny Williams supporting her ,only went to see him, a few stood up applauding after he sang So Very Hard To Go and got confused looks from the Deniece Williams fans, I thought she was crap. he was brilliant, from memory sang nearly all the songs from his first solo album. I seem to remember Gwen was supposed to be on the George McCrae bill but had a cold and didnt appear, were KC and the Sunshine band also support?
  9. I have all my old tickets in a frame, very faded now . I wish I had been more careful writing the acts on the Opera House and Palace tickets. I have the Detroit Spinners on the Atlantic Road Show with hosted by Emperor Roskoe with support from Jimmy Castor and I think Sister Sledge at the Opera House Sunday April the 6th. Then again with Brass Construction as support Saturday 30th April 1977 at I think the Palace, only half a ticket. I have a Four Tops ticket for the Opera House with the support act written in biro, unfortunately can't make out the name, starts with an S maybe second letter P so could be the one you are talking about. Marvin Gaye, I've got one from the ABC at Ardwick,no date and no indication of support. Gladys Knight, Odeon theatre, November the third, what a night that was,got hers and the Pips autographs after the show in the program which I stupidly gave away about five years ago. I'll try and take some pics, might jog a few more memories of shows you hacmve forgotten about,I didnt realise I'd seen Herbie Hancock until I took the board out of the frame.

  11. As i said in my post just after yours the record I hopefully bought last night newly listed is no longer there this morning. who is responsible for removing items once sold I have no idea, perhaps someone on here can tell us, is it automatic from Discogs side or does the seller have to do it. I'm sure this was answered on the last sale thread but i cannot remember the answer.
  12. I put in a second order yesterday on a newly listed record from my wants list, if I get all well and good, if not so be it, looking this morning it is no longer listed as for sale by John so either I've got it or someone else has., this was on Discogs by the way. I think anyone who looks at sales across all outlets, sellers on here, websites ,facebook etc on a regular basis has a good idea of which records always seem to sell. I wouldn't be at all surprised if someone got in before me on the record I ordered, I'll be disappointed but in no way would I be moaning and groaning. The indie record by the Cure which is readily available elsewhere that was out of stock from my first order must be jinxed as I got an email from another seller on Discogs yesterday saying he couldn't find said record and could i give him a bit longer to find it. I know there were comments from the last sale regarding how stock is stored but if a guy selling 185 records as in my case can't find it it's understandable that with the volume of sales Johns half price sale has garnered there is going to be a backlog. I have sympathy for people who see others receiving their orders in what appears to be out of date order, I was in the same position last time but I'm sure the majority will have a positive outcome with patience.
  13. Off topic hope you both dont mind Would that one the one where he played Liverpool supported by Phillip Mitchell that I went to. Wilson wasn't very impressed by the poor attendance but put on a great show. I had seen Phillip Mitchell i think the previous year when he replaced a poorly Al Green at the CIS in Manchester. If memory serves me right at Liverpool Mitchell had hurt his leg and either had a crutch or a stick. His set was completely different to the Manchester one due to his inability to dance. I bought a poster of the night which both Wilson and Phillip signed, I had it on the steps going down to the cellar in our cottage. When we sold the cottage I forgot about the poster plus one from the American Blues Legends Manchester gig. We only moved 500yrds up rhe road to our new housei went back the following g day and the new owners had burnt the. posters.

I see your point Kathryn ,perhaps I was a bit harsh in my assessment , not sure about lighthearted with some of the issues featured, I think the actress who overplayed the supermarket scene redeemed herself in later episodes.

Binged watched it last week, first impressions were so so as I thought the supermarket scene was well overplayed . That said I enjoyed it, some very sad scenes. My only real downer and after seeing an interview with the writer I understand the premise of the whole thing being about older women and how they are viewed and treated but surely she could have written in at least one good male character. I think my problem with some TV is I have a hard time accepting its a drama and not real life and find it hard to suspend common sense that this or that just wouldn't happen. I guess I'll have to suspend belief again when they hit the charts in a possible second series which yes despite my criticism I will watch and enjoy.
  16. Ordered Sunday, one deep soul two cheap 90's indie records, arrived Friday, one indie record reduced to a quid for which I'll have to pay over £9 elsewhere as it was out of stock, refund and postage refund due to unavailable record. No complaints, excellent service this time around.
  17. Dont know if anyone is interested in this, how genuine it is,came free from a mate with a different white label what i assume is a carver with Cool Off on one side and sitting in my class on the other . Anyhow as I say don't know if the signature is genuine or a photo copy onto the stick on label. If it is genuine and anyone wants it,maybe you have the single with no sleeve, free to good home.

French series The Intruder BBC 4 started last night, nervy stuff, Lou's exclaimed "oh no" countless times, excellent so far. Only four episodes watched the final two this afternoon on iplayer. Thoroughly enjoyed.
  19. I like to see and hear what might be played at Ashton as it was my favourite venue when we were out and about ,just wish I could afford some of em' A bit off topic but related I used to enjoy reading the Living Room Dj thread and from there discovering tunes I didn't know, many that were affordable. I'd hazard a guess from memory it was more collector based rather than what was currently being played but interesting nontheless.
  20. Saw this and thought it might be of interest. The CourierLegendary Northern Soul club nights saw Dundee gangs forg...Dundee's Northern Soul scene exploded in 1975 - think vests, baggy trousers, high-energy dancing, and secret all-nighters.
  21. I put a search a search in for Brooke Combe How Can I Tell You for sale and it came up with Townsend Music pre order. Initially on the search it showed the price in dollars yet when you click on the link the price is in pounds sterling. Not released until late Nov. Hope this helps.

Just binge watched the 3rd series of The Newsreader, Australian drama set obviously in a news room which is showing on the Beeb.. Set in the 80's stories revolve around actual events and how the fictional station covers them and the relationships therein of the station staff. All three series available on i player.
  23. I haven't seen mention of this putting it here hoping it will get more views than in the Tv forum, mods feel free to move, saw it mentioned on Breakfast tv this morning, bit of mix of soul and gospel, some great vocalists among them Beverly Knight doing Aretha, made me wonder why they didn't use some of them in the infamous Northern prom, a marvellous saxophonist. Available on i player. Enjoyed the instrumental of Move on Up, a few Curtis songs in there . Well worth a watch.
  24. Only just caught this when it was shown , well worth a watch, some good insights into the development of the genre.

Love Has Won, The Cult of Mother God on Sky documentaries left me amazed at the nonsense people could believe to be true. I found it to be frightening and laughable at the same time that any sane person could seriously believe some of the things the people in the cult took to be true. I couldn't figure out whether three of the people involved went along with the whole thing because it gave them an easy life but they all seemed to actually have complete conviction that Amy Carlson was indeed God and was guided by amongst other "galactic's" Robin Williams . I found it hard at times to take any of them seriously but it was a fascinating insight into the workings of a cult.
