Firstly I would like to thank all the Dj's who gave freely of there time & energy to not only Dj but also to promoted the night & the enthusiastic energy they brought ( which was truly inspiring), Ollie (Bolton), Maxine Bellini (Manchester) ,Amy Hokin (Sheffield) ,John Kino ( Manchester) , Aaron Rees (Bristol Soul Club). Also I would like to thank everyone who attended the 1st night of this iconic venue. Thanks to all of you we are in the process of putting another one on late June ,early July watch this space. If you have not been to the venue, everyone I speak to say's the same thing (including yours truly) " It's got NORTHERN SOUL written all over it !!!" It doesn't look like much from the outside ,but once inside it's got that old music hall look similar to Wigan Casino (although very much a lot smaller) or indeed Bradford Queen's Hall (again but on a smaller scale). It's got a nice wooden dance floor & balconys. It's worth visiting the website & having a look at the photos you can see what I am getting at www.niamos.co.uk . Here also is a link to a very short video https://www.facebook.com/688420131/videos/pcb.10162948741635132/1350422729400081, which will give you some idea at least of the dance floor .Given that there was a lot other events on that Bank Holiday weekend there was enough people to create a good atmosphere, some traveling/driving as far as 2 hours & 30 minutes away. Some of the sounds that where played on the night are as follows Marlena Shaw - Let's Wade in the Water (Cadet), The Shalimars / Stop And Take a Look At Yourself (Verve Demo) , Danny Wagner and the Kindred Soul / I Lost a True Love (Imperial Demo) The Great Train Robbery - Heartless Hurdy Gertie - ABC Records Salt - I Cant Believe - Choctaw Records Velvet Hammer - Happy - Soozi, Magic Touch - Melba Moore (Kent), Keep On Searching-The Marvels (Injection), Now I know What Love Is -Al Wilson (Liberty UK), I Can't Get Along Without You -Maxine Brown ( Major Minor UK). Looking forward to the next event, thanks for reading this ,hope to see you there=0)!!!!!!!!! B=0)
  1. Hi there, sorry I don't have any info about the event ;but have you contacted the venue? You could try & get some contact details(about the organizer) off the venue if the event is still booked. Worst case scenario you could look for other events that are happening not far from where you booked to stay .I do hope it works out for you.
  2. Stunning picture!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  3. NS Logo4 copy.pdfHi there & thanks for reading this=0) . I am holding a Northern Soul Mini Niter on Saturday the 3rd of May 8pm-3am.Putting The 'Northern' & the'' Soul' back into Manchester ( & yes I known it's not an All Nighter but it is 7 hours of Soul ,given most niters are 8 hours I think it's pretty good going) It's a fund raising event for the venue. The venue itself was build 1901/2 is & originally called the 'Hulme Hippodrome' then known later has the 'Playhouse Theatre' now known as the Niamos Centre. Address; Nia Centre,Chichester Road ,Hulme. Manchester .M15 5EU. It's situated behind 'Hulme Garden Centre'. For me it's got 'Northern Soul' written all over it. It doesn't look like much from the outside ,but once inside it's got that old music hall look similar to Wigan Casino (although very much a lot smaller) or indeed Bradford Queen's Hall (again but on a smaller scale). It's got a nice wooden dance floor (Strictly No Drinks or Talc on the Dance Floor) & balcony's. It's worth visiting the website & having a look at the photos you can see what I am getting at www.niamos.co.uk. The music policy will be 'right across the board' Classic & Under played Northern, Motown, Newies , Cross Over & Modern. Hopefully something to please everyone on the Rare/Northern Soul Scene. The DJ's are Amy Hodkin (Viral Sheffield Soul Girl) Ollie Lambert Bolton,John Kino Manchester, Aaron Rees (Bristol Soul Club) Maxine (Manchester) Bella (Belfast). Tickets available online thru 'Skiddle' £8.50 early bird ticket , £10 after or pay on the door. If successful we will have future events . We ask upon leaving the venue that noise is kept down as it is a residential area .Please feel free to ask any Questions. NS Logo4 copy.pdf

  6. Magic=0) Love looking at this old clippings/adverts for 'Nights' particularly like the silhouette picture/image for the ' Ritz Entertainment Club, Skewen'. Such a simple image but evocative of the times & atmosphere a sort of '2 in the morning -Spooners Crowd vibe'. Thank you for sharing=0)

  14. Hi there, in reply to your question ,'Is there a strange place these days'. I would say yes there is a 'strange place' to hear Norther/Rare Soul as a opposed to 'Soul' music. Just stating the obvious with Northern/Rare Soul being a bit more niche.
