I know where you're coming from but I "believe" Verble's rendition more than Jimmy's. As for his name, several people on this scene could and should take that name via deed poll

No not in general, but this particular track - "I've Been Fooled Before". A Chicago composition by Bob Lee (co-owner of Toi and Jerhart labels amongst others) and Sherman Nesbury (singer, songwriter, producer and one-time member of the Admirations) this was originally released by Verble Domino on the Chicago based Toi label and subsequently covered by Jimmy Delphs on Ollie McLaughlin's Detroit based Carla label. Which one is the better version? Verble just wins it for me. Phil

I may as well throw my two pennorth in. Firstly let me make my own stance clear - I am a vinyl collector, when I used to DJ I only played proper vinyl and I spent the best part of my teen and adult life searching for and buying original vinyl and that "passion" was to the exclusion of just about everything (and everyone) else in my life. I re-mortgaged the house to buy records and consequently had it reposessed when I lost the job. Even spent the money I'd saved up for the revenue on vinyl too, the taxman was not best pleased to say the least Still do buy the odd record now and again but have calmed down the last few years. So for me vinyl, vinyl and more vinyl. But .... the best collection in the world doesn't make a good DJ. No way, no how. A good DJ is one who knows how to put a set of records together for the specific crowd for which he (or she) is playing to. Be they rarities, common as muck, vinyl, CD, or even mp3 is irrelevant as long as the paying punters enjoy themsleves. In the context of some venues then original vinyl is just as important as the ability to put the set of records together, but not in most. Phil

This kind of thing is truly sickening, but alas is nowt new. I wrote a letter to Black Echoes magazine about this very thing happening at Bradford Queens Hall niter when Steve Croft and I were running it back in 1988/89. It happened a few times and eventually did work and got us shut down for a while. The green eyed monster is, and never has been, far away on the scene. Hope they don't shut the place down. Phil

You've not missed that much. I bought it blind in a record shop in Pennsylvania about 17 years ago for $5.00. I was pretty disappointed when I played it, but overjoyed when some kind soul gave me several £100's for it just a couple years later Phil

I have a DAT of this from the label owner somewhere (was gonna releae it on Soul City at one point). I'll dig it out and bang up a soundfile. Also a couple of other unreleased stuff by them on there. Phil
