  1. I thought the original question was Which of the Grapevine singles could you play at an OVO soul night? Without having your knuckles rapped by the soul police. That's why I gave my answer that none of the Grapevine 1st series releases should be played now at an OVO soul night.
  2. For me if a record is released because of demand by the Northern scene, then it shouldn't be played end of. British releases that were released not for the NS but because they had the rights, for example Rufus Lumley "I'm Standing" on Stateside are perfectly acceptable to be played. I know some would even frown upon White label Motown pressings being played when there's a real acetate in someone's collection, like Gladys Knight "Too late"
  3. I'm sure Chalky'll know if it's the same guy, he's busy sorting someone's Eddie Hill query on another SS topic at the moment 🤔
  4. Mick It's nice you've given Chuck his Sunday name.😃
  5. Nice one Mick.👌👍
  6. Mick this classic from Chico Lamarr used to get a few plays from Baz, both sides are great but this side does it best for me especially with The Trips "Love can't be modernised" back in demand.
  7. Mal, there's a you tube post of this acetate that seems to be recorded a lot slower than this. Sorry It's okay it's been posted slowed down. I don't know why as it sounds better at the correct speed.
  8. Thanks Chalky, I really enjoyed listening to the snippet list, it's easy to see why The 100 club has been leading the way all these years. I wouldn't have thought the Kenneth Wright track as your typical 100 club dancer, however I haven't visited the place for ages so what do I know. I agree the Norma Jenkins sounds wonderful.
  9. I'm sorry I don't know anybody in it but I can guess who was in charge of equalling out the gear and which two got the least.😜.
  10. Tim, I seem to remember a few months ago a topic on here asking members to recommend cheaper records from their collections. I bought a couple of the recommended 45's myself.
  11. I heard Yarmouth promoters Bob & Gavin used to encourage their Saturday night guest DJ's to play a common soul track mixed in with all the rare stuff in their set. I'm not sure it's true, but you stated Steve will be playing some of his Yarmouth memories, so if it is true then can he remember any that he played over the years. I think Sam was partial to a bit of Candi Staton "Young hearts run free" ,Here's a couple of classics that would have fit the bill perfectly The Detroit Emeralds "Feel the need" or David Ruffin "Walk away from love"
  12. I think the "Hit em hard" soundtrack album came out first Baz so I take it you'll be playing the 2nd issue. 😄 👌 Don't forget OVO 🫶 Only joking.
  13. What was that line from the film Jaws "You're gonna need a bigger boat/room"😜
  14. 🫶👍
  15. I read somewhere this was a Mecca spin, I must have missed it that week or else I'd have definitely searched for one. I've had to settle for the Hit em hard soundtrack for my home listening pleasure. I have absolutely no idea if this is likely to be played on the 5th but it'd be great if it was.🫶
  16. I have to be careful mate, it ain't a Prestwich revival.🤔
  17. Mr M here's another one from the same era, I think originally this was a secret bonus track at the end of his album. I might as well post it whilst I'm on a roll.😆
  18. Baz here's a modern soul winner from the Prestwich & Lowton back room era. I always loved playing it, the bass always did it for me. Absolutely brilliant.
  19. Baz, give us a taste of your recommended Modern soul winners we can expect to hear on the 5th.
  20. That's one for me to look out for. Calling Hitler the Austrian painter reminded me of that brilliant film MAX starring John Cusack and Noah Taylor. The story of Max Rothman and his meeting of a young Austrian painter A Hitler.
  21. Are you sure you can get your legs moving that fast mate. I once commented to Rob Messer that the Velvet Satins is near impossible to dance to, so he set about proving me wrong when it came on, I'll never say that again. 😄👌
  22. Rob, so the DJ's are Tim, Tom & are the Turn ons, you & Ginger.😝
  23. I was thinking it's so local to Tim that he could just pop along and do his spot in his slippers.
  24. Rob has Tim bought new slippers for the occasion.😄 Tim gave me a tour once of every Todmorden venue/pub that had hosted a northern soul night over the last 50years. Do you know if The Golden Lion has been used before or is it a new one.
  25. All being well mate I'll be there, my turn to get the drinks in I take it You say you polish your shoes Andrew but I always thought you bought a new pair rather than do all that needless polishing.😄 I take it you did mean your important little parts and not your impotent little parts.😜
