  2. Culcheth and Grumpy Soul - both present a great opportunity to roll out the lesser played flipside
  3. A great follow up to the smash that was the Anniversary night in September - a special bit of Grumpy Soul magic always adds to the night and I'm so looking forwards to it already. I still remember the first record I played at Grumpy Soul when Joan & Phil asked me to DJ at Runcorn (or did I dream it LOL)
  4. Used to love a trip to Afflecks - remember bagging 2 copies of the Enchantments from his 'behind the counter box' £40 each those were the days LOL
  5. Very much looking forwards to a return visit alongside my fellow Ashton Ukrainian Club resident Mick Howard and of course the ambassador of our scene Robbo. Had a great night last time, big thanks to Dodger kindly for inviting us back for the Anniversary night. I'll have to start to dig around in the boxes - it was great to dust down this one and get a great response from the floor, class!

What a fantastic night both rooms buzzing all night with the now expected eclectic mixture of top quality rare soul . . Well done to all involved DJs and the Culcheth faithful alike and last but not least BazM who puts his heart and soul into the events promotion tirelessly. 😁
  6. Only 1 more sleep until we get the chance to gather and celebrate the Culcheth Anniversary Back to that man Robbo here's what is possibly a little know fact that highlights the influence he's had on the music that gets played. Back in the 90s Robbo asked Bob Hinsley if he knew Gladys Knight "No one could love you more", he didn't but listened and told him it was brilliant. Robbo gave him the LP and the rest is history (at that time the single version on the re-issue of Take Me In Your Arms hadn't been noticed).
  7. Totally can't wait for Culcheth this weekend .. certainly time for a blow out as far as im concerned hope to see you all there Here's a soundtrack for Henry Boatwright I hope you enjoy it Spot on with that summary BazM 🤲 I'd also describe Robbo as a great ambassador of the scene and I'll polish that off with 'a cheeky dark horse' too. ... I've heard more than one or 2 folk express surprise upon hearing the unexpected hit the decks
  8. Always diggin' about aren't we LOL
  9. I can't wait for Saturday and the long awaited anniversary dayer this weekend - here's the Henry Boatwright sound file for anyone interested 2. Henry Boatwright - I'm Hung Up On A Dream_pn.mp3
  10. Calling all fans of rare soul, get yourselves to Culcheth this Saturday - if you haven't made the trip yet you're missing out on a fantastic venue, great crowd and unrivalled quality soul music...if you have you know it makes sense

    until

My 3rd visit to Piercebridge and it just gets better...It's all a bit of a blur now but all I can say is Great Crowd, Great Venue, Great Music and a Great shame you missed it if you weren't able to attend! One for the calendar next summer if you get the chance for sure. Thanks to Harry & Chalky for asking me to DJ with them again and thanks to the crowd for putting up with me
  11. Why not!!!
  12. Still rummaging in the boxes - in the meanwhile this has floated to the top for tomorrow nights festival of soulfulness
  13. I couldn't say for certain Mick, but I can tell you that I asked Brian to play it so often in the early/mid-90s he gave me this copy LOL
  14. On a personal note it would be amiss of me not to mention the passing of the wonderful Brian Rae. On Saturday I'm planning to give these 2 gems a spin which sit in pride of place the playbox.
  15. Even better Mick here's my copy with Chalkys' original c/u label - a piece of history
  16. Having an early morning rummage - here's one that was a c/u for Chalky at Lifeline and still has legs IMO
  17. As always looking forwards immensely to the next nights injection of soul at Culcheth.....if only Culcheth were in Oxford
  18. Truly devastated, such a lovely guy and a legend just doesn't capture it does it!! Always had time for a chat and an ear for an over enthusiastic youngster when I first met him in the early 90s.... he will be sadly sadly missed and remembered with fondness x
