  1. Magnificents - Funky Corners please Des - cheers!
  2. Hey all, My last batch of paper sleeves (for 45's) has run out and unfortunately the Ebay seller I've always bought them from (UK) has raised his postage to the point where it's almost not worth it anymore. Which is a shame as they were excellent sleeves, ones that actually covered the whole record (I don't understand why there are so many of them that leave a good 5mm or so of the grooved surface exposed - what?) These are the ones I used to buy, I'm sure you'll all know them: Does anyone have a UK or EU source for these, or just a good UK/EU source for decent quality sleeves with reasonable postage costs? I'd be looking at a 100 pack or so. Cheers! D
  3. Welp, I gave this a try and it didn't go too badly! The idea came to me suddenly, I have these paper dot-type stickers that are pretty sticky and stiff. So I cut two of them in half (they would've been too big otherwise), cupped my hands around the record and pressed in to get the gap to close as much as I could (I was afraid it'd suddenly shatter into a million pieces, fortunately it didn't happen) and somehow managed to drop a sticker on the lead-in with one free finger. Then I did the others (both sides as per the photo). And wouldn't you know.. it plays. Both sides. No skips, just a rather noticeable click - but I've noticed that if I press the "Mono" button on my amp, you don't hear even that. And it plays sooo cleanly... which only makes me want to kick myself more!! I even managed to clean it on the Knosti (works like a charm on 45s), although I feel that it may have weakened the stickers a bit - I may have to redo it. Also thinking of other alternatives like buying some sort of specialized (model plane?) glue that won't harm the plastic or even 'fusing' the crack together by using a soldering iron on the lead-in, but that would take some massive cojones.

  7. Delecardos please Des.
  8. Thanks! Both for the insight and for the offer. I won't have time to look at it until the weekend, but I'll sit down when I have a few quiet minutes to look at the disc closely under a good light and see if I can figure out what's going on. As to whether the disc was warped, I don't know - the seller did not mention it (then again, he posted it in a paper envelope..) and I have no way of knowing now. But it may well have been (part of) the cause. Cheers, D
  9. good advice that
  10. Hi all, A few of you may have seen my posts about this record - seller sent it in a regular padded envelope and the inevitable happened - I did get my money back and I thought I'd try to get the record to play - figured I couldn't make it worse... But I can't. Unlike I expected, the crack doesn't want to stay closed unlike on other cracked records I've had. I'm thinking it's maybe debris from the label tear getting in the way. But I haven't fixed that many cracked records unlike some of you here, so I thought I'd ask before trying anything else. As you know this one's too good sides so it'd be great to be able to play both.. I usually use a tiny drop of nail varnish on the non-grooved surface (on both sides) to immobilize the crack, as it doesn't melt the vinyl like Loctite does. But I need the crack to close first! Cheers, D

  12. I don't f'n believe this. I bought that fine original and it arrived a few days back.. I'm out of town but my sister tells me 'this one feels kind of flimsy for a record. Want me to open it?' It was, indeed, a record - that gorgeous black label original above. But in a regular bubble envelope without so much as a piece of cardboard and cracked in half. I DON'T F--KING BELIEVE THIS. Plus it was a private sale so I'm out £65 (good price, too) unless the seller decides to do right - which I'm willing to be he will not. Do people not realize the VALUE of things?! (excuse me, needed to vent)
  13. PM'd you about Little Joe Cook and Dorothy & Hesitations - thanks!

Hi everyone, I'm interested in a reasonably priced copy of Mandells - Think Back (TransWorld). VG+ ish is OK as long as the music still sounds clean, and not fuzzy from having been played too many times. Prefer PM - and thank you very much for reading. D

  17. Thanks Rob, looks like I've found a proper original then
  18. So, resurrecting this old thread for a split second.. ALL black-label discs are the real deal, right? What about machine-stamped vs handwritten matrix? I'm looking at one with the latter (black label, appears to be stuck on and not molded - attaching a 3-sec video I got of it). Cheers!

Hi all, Interested in a clean-playing copy of Mandells' "Think Back" for a reasonable price. Also starting to consider Hermon Hitson 'Yes You Did/Better To Have Loved' (Minit) but will depend on price... I'm interested in the 'Better To Have Loved' side right now, so at least that one should play OK.. no play wear and preferably not a lot of crackle, being a quieter tune. Would prefer PM - thank you for reading! Cheers, D
  23. Well if you look at the bidding history so far it's mostly only two bidders.. shill bidding or pissing contest?
