The Allergies (live) + DJ Sam Redmore + club night after
Saturday 24th June The Night Owl & Diplomats of Sound present playing live THE ALLERGIES The duo of DJ Moneyshot and Rackabeat have been delighting dance floors and lighting up the radio airwaves since forming The Allergies in 2012. Year in, year out, they've sharpened their skills on the turntables and in the studio, dropping one dynamite record after another. Clocking up 'Album of The Day' gongs, national ad campaign spots, and Radio 6 Music A-list status, the pair show no sign of stopping the fun. They're about to cut the ribbon on their fifth album, Promised Land. Another showcase for their feel good funk, soul sampling savvy, and party-starting hip-hop. As usual, the Bristol-based beatmakers have assembled a crack team to help bring their loops to life. LA rap legend, Andy Cooper is back on board, alongside the mighty pipes of Marietta Smith - Both staples of The Allergies live show act. Plus, guest spots from some super special MCs from both sides of The Pond, and quite possibly the most explosive sample-heavy tracks of their career, so far. Over the last year they found some light amongst the darkness, seeking out solace and release by making beautiful music, dug from old record stacks. And they can't wait to get back on the road, letting everyone back into their world, once more. "The Allergies music is big, bouncy and fat! Just how I like my funk" - Craig Charles, BBC Radio 6 Music + SAM REDMORE (DJ) Doors open 8pm, Tickets from £12 entry here https://bit.ly/allergies23 or £16 on the door includes club night after.

The Big Birmingham Soul Night
Town Hall and The Night Owl come together to bring The Big Birmingham Soul Night! Saturday 12th February (rescheduled from November) Town Hall is one of the city's most renowned and prestigious music venues, and has joined forces with a relative newcomer which has already made its mark on the UK soul scene and voted Best New Venue by the Birmingham Mail readers last year, The Night Owl. The two venues are working together to bring back The Big Birmingham Soul Night this April. The event, which harks back to soul nights of the 60's and 70's, will be programmed by The Night Owl and held at Birmingham Town Hall. This beautiful listed building boasts a giant wooden floor, perfect for Northern Soul and Mod style dancing, with an elegant balcony for those who would prefer to just relax and enjoy the dancing below. There will also a smaller second room of music, with its own bar and seating, record buying and selling and more. Confirmed to head up this evening is legendary DJ Colin Curtis, who began DJing in the late 1960s at the Crystal Lake Ballroom and the infamous Golden Torch in Stoke and later Blackpool Mecca. He is often cited as being one of the most important tastemakers of black music in the UK. Colin will be playing music from his Torch days, so you can expect the Northern Soul classics that Colin broke and much more, all on original vinyl. DJs Colin Curtis (Golden Torch/Blackpool Mecca) Sonny & Spare (The Boogaloo/The Night Owl) PEP (Catacombs) Mazzy Snape (The Night Owl) Adrian Hawkins (AWOL) 9pm till 4am £12 advance tickets available here- https://bit.ly/BhamSoulFeb from £14 on the door

Where can I get nice large 45 record boxes?

Where can I get nice large 45 record boxes?
Thanks Rick, might be a bit heavy do you think? I do have a pal who's a great carpenter though so will investigate!

Where can I get nice large 45 record boxes?
Does anyone know where I can get some double/large 45 record boxes like those jazzman ones? Looks like they sold out at the time but I've been looking for ages for something similar with no luck I can't seem to find anything that isn't either really ugly or really impractical Love my vintage small 45's boxes, but it's hard to carry more than a couple at a time due to awkward handles. Has anyone seen any reproduction / vintage larger record boxes (like double or triple size of normal boxes)? Either in a shop or online? I don't like the modern looking metal ones Any help appreciated

Are we really gonna let it die with us?
- This is good
Think it's one you just watch isn't it?- Are we really gonna let it die with us?
Perhaps wasn't clear sorry. Some people who normally go to strictly Northern nights have started coming to the Saturdays as well Does that make sense?- Are we really gonna let it die with us?
Yes it is an older crowd on a Friday, not as busy but this means more room to dance which also goes down well with original fans. Saturdays are always packed with old and young because the music is more of a mix with Northern/Motown/60s r n b/funk/ska etc.. Also some of the purist Northern fans that used to come Fridays have started coming Saturdays as well as they know we can play their requests and they like the atmosphere.- Are we really gonna let it die with us?
I've seen DJs with amazing records who aren't great at flow or reading the room and responding to the crowd, it's all a package isn't it? Some DJs who play off originals just search eBay then check what they sound like on YouTube, it's the new version of crate digging. Also I always think it's good to bring 2 formats (such as vinyl & cd) in case something goes wrong with decks or anything.- Recommend a soulful party band? Midlands
The Atlantic Players from Birmingham are incredible, seen them loads- Are we really gonna let it die with us?
I DJ mainly off vinyl, with some CDs as back up. I can't afford to buy many originals but do prefer to play records whenever possible. I did a request night on Saturday, first time I've done it. Had two 7 inch boxes with me, CDs and a laptop. Played every request asked for and had people come up and say it was the best night of their lives. Glad I could make some people happy even if I had to turn to the laptop for some of the tunes. P.S. If anyone is about to kark it and wants to leave me their record collection feel free!- Paying for your guest DJs?
I've been both a DJ and promoter for 14 years, only recently specifically on the soul scene but the same applies As a promoter I think manage expectations, if you agree a guarantee it has to be paid, if you have an understanding based on turnout then it needs to be very clear before the event As a DJ once you've been DJing a while you know what your own going rate is and I guess it depends how much you want to play at that place/event as to whether you'll lower it. I've had everything happen from bomb scares, to snow, to generator's exploding, if you've built a reputation as a promoter who looks after their acts then a one off once in a blue moon with a frank conversation and mutually agreeable arrangement can sometimes be made. Flip side I've had a couple of times I've DJ'ed at a new place and no one's turned up, if I'm not relying on the money then I would usually offer to take a lower fee but that's just because I csn feel the promoters pain - This is good
