  2. Can't narrow it down to one so here goes...Anita Baker and Ann Nesby Two is the best I can do
  3. Seconded I think that the scene will live on, but in a different guise...think chameleon

Good point Joan. When I started going to the Casino as a kid, I hung around with a predominantly older crowd and I was the youngest. The upshot of that was that they introduced me to people who they had met from around the country, who tended to be their age. From that point of view it was a bit insular for a while but then I started to meet people not only my age but also older and younger, independently of them, and so my friendship circle widened. I found that eventually some of the older Casino'ites tailed off for various reasons and of course the younger ones eventually became the older ones. Personally I never gave a thought to the age thing in terms of the longevity of the scene as I never had that much foresight (or sense come to think of it) back in the day cos in my young and immature mind I simply lived for "today" and in fact I never imagined that my niter days would ever constitute more than a passing phase and certainly never saw myself as being still attached to the scene in one form or another in let's say my more "mature" years. The only age-related aspect I do remember from back then has a non-controversial and a controversial aspect to it in that whilst some of the older ones were quite happy to mingle with others, irrespective of age, some of them seemed to resent the presence of the younger ones and either took the pee out of them (divs, plastics etc) or bemoaned the fact that by their very existence the scene was becoming far too commercialised and this was a damaging feature for an underground scene. I remember being at Wigan the night they filmed This England and my only complaint was that it was too light and being a creature of the night I like the dark side of it ...for me the ageism thing never came into it...after all we were all wet behind the ears at some stage in our lives and usually when we first started out on the scene. So you see, thankfully I am one of those from the non-controversial ageism camp

Now Joan after having read that I think I would have felt downright embarrassed had I seen that clip...sounds about as far removed from reality as you can possibly get...except of course the quantity of pills...although in reality they'd have been long gone...necked or sold Dance-off indeed

  9. It was liking all the tracks mentioned on this thread that got me into ways and set me off on that slippery slope away from the Casino and off into the world of modern music...but I was ok cos I never looked back, just kept right on slipping

  12. Fully intended to watch it but gave up when I heard Stevie Wonder's spiel then as he started to sing my mobile rang which gave me the excuse to switch off. All seemed rather staged and inappropriate to me. Each to their own though
  13. Nice one...I'll give it a whirl some time soon
  14. Nor can I
  15. Err...now I recall things a lot differently...like the time you were ankle deep in water on the dancefloor (funnily enough) with no socks and shoes on and the time you had to be carried out of the place cos you took a funny turn (can't for the life of me think why)...and if I was ever in a mess (which I wasn't) then it would most definitey have been all your fault
  16. Phil, you were never off that Bradford dancefloor
  17. It was nigh on impossible doing the three from Bradford...give me a couple of years to think and I'll be back on it
  18. That's where I'll have to go then wade through all the boxes to find which one is the best one I've ever been given...I could be gone for days if not weeks
  19. RESPECT You're a proper man of honour you and I'm glad to hear it and I don't mean the tape!
