Al Williams - I Am Nothing La Beat Issue
If this is the record with CHAMP written on the label (can't access Darren's web site at present to check), then there's an interesting story I was told by a previous owner of this record that I have no way of verifying. Apparently the CHAMP being referred to is none other than Cassius Clay / Mohammed Ali the boxer and this copy was given to him as a present. Who gave him the copy? I have no idea. Did the CHAMP ever get the copy? Again I have no idea. Is the story true or just a myth? Again, I have no idea. Was I on the end of a wind-up? Again, I have no idea. That said, I thought it was an interesting anecdote. I suspect I may have been a little dazed and confused at the time I was told this story...hence the reason why I can only remember parts of the conversation. If the chap who told me this is the current owner and is selling this via Darren's site then he may be able to verify the story. If true...this may add to the collectability of the item. If I was so messed up at the time I heard the tale that I've created my own urban myth....then I apologise for wasting your time reading this post.

New Documentary - Making Of Once Upon A Time In Wigan
I really enjoyed the play when it came to The Lowry in Salford Quays. Unbeknown to me, and to my horror, my Mum and Dad decided to go and see the play in Coventry to find out a bit more about 'what their son has been into for the last 20 odd years'. We subsequently had a somewhat difficult conversation about illegal substances! I had a lot of explaining to do. Was I a man or a mouse...did I come clean? I'll say no more other than..."pass the cheese"

Soulful Scootering
Here's mine... Rarely ridden to an event as the helmet would ruin my hair (lame excuse as if you know me I don't have much hair to ruin). And in case Munchkin reads this...I know it's a Vespa! But...I do now own a GP Manx Replica and did own an Li150 (S1), Li 150 (S2) and Li150 (S3) in addition to the SX225 that I destroyed on the way to and from the Euro rally to Cork back in 1998 (I think).

Are C.d's On The Way Out ?
My 15 year old nephew has explained iTunes to me. My 11 year old neice just about remembers seeing a CD. Neither has ever held a vinyl record...of any genre. I feel sorry that they have missed out for so long. Uncle Chris is now on a mission to turn them into Soulies & Vinyl Hounds...though as their parents binned the record player long ago I suspect I may have an uphill battle.

Usernames How Did You Pick Yours?
Scooterboy... I had a scooter (since I joined SS I now have 2 scooters) I was a little younger than I am now...hence 'boy'. Perhaps I should change it to 2-scooters-old-fuddy-duddy...doesn't have the same ring to it though. If you were to ask the wife she'd suggest 'MiseryGutsSelfishTw*t' (or worse). Chris

A Few Juicy Ones
Hi Folks, I have a few peices for sale. If interested contact me via PM. Will try and add scans over the weekend (I am a Luddite and Wifey's going to have to help me). No paypal on this occasion...sorry about that. I'm after cheques as I have a poorly Vespa engine that needs major attention and I'm also trying to buy a 1970 Lambretta GP200 and the seller won't take Paypal from me. Alternatively if you are in the Manchester / Stockport area I could meet up and I'd be happy (as you might imagine) with the cash. All at least EX condition (will offer finer grading when I get home and check again...but I have tried to be conservative with grading so that no one has cause to be disappointed). Betty Wilson - I'm Yours - Dayco £1,200 Bobby Adams & Betty Lou - Dr Truelove - Trax £500 Ollie Jackson - Wipe Away The Teardrops Magnum £350 Sandra Stephens - If You Really Love Me - Ja Wes £250 I may sell my Ted Wilson - I Can't Take No More - Sierra but would want in excess of £1,500 There are a couple more that I'll dig out when I get home. Thanks for looking. Chris P.S. Price includes Royal Mail Special Delivery. P.P.S. Shipping to UK addresses only - sorry.

Nice Tunes @ Nice Prices
Hi and thanks for looking. I hope there's something of interest as I have a rather nasty credit card bill to pay (gulp!) Ideally I'd prefer a cheque rather than PayPal but I can accept PayPal if there's really no other option. If you do pay by PayPal please do so as a gift. I'll cover postage (UK only) via Recorded Delivery. If you want Special Delivery just pay the difference (allow say an extra £3.00). Any overseas customers, please advise me of the destination and I'll come back to you with a price. Please contact me via chris.penn@voweurope.com or as a PM via the site. Many thanks Chris Bobby Adams & Betty Lou, Dr Truelove M- / EX+ (Great condition) £ Offers Sir Caesar, Show Me The Time (Ride) M- / EX+ (Great condition) £300 The Epsilons, I'm So Devoted (Shrine) M- / EX+ (Pristine vinyl, ever so slight label wear) £150 David Porter, Win You Over (Stax) M- / EX+ (Great condition) £70 Barbara Dane, I'm On my Way (3 Trey) EX / M- vinyl (3 numbers written on label) £75 The Singing Swinging Counts, Along The Way (The Label) Label wear and some felt pen marks. Bag A Bargain
Thank you for your observations. If I have been in any way unrealistic then that was not my intention. The records in question cost me considerably more than the sum I am advertising them at. In addition I have tried to be extra strict grade-wise so as not to disappoint. If I am being genuinely unrealistic then I will of course be happy to consider offers that SS readers deem more appropriate. Should you wish to guide me in the right direction price-wise or provide any further advice / guidance / opinion regarding these records then that would be greatly appreciated; however I would prefer this was via a PM or via my personal email address to spare me any further embarrassment. Chris

Bag A Bargain
Hi Folks, Thanks for looking. Having a major clear out and basically need the money. The following are being sold as a single 'lot'. The best offer over £1,000 gets them all (offers by Friday 21st please). I will not use one bid to encourage others to 'bid up' - best offer on it's own merits gets them. I'm not sure how much these would be to 'mail' but that would be an added extra cost we'd need to agree upon. To help out I'm prepared to hand deliver within a 50 - 60 mile radius (or thereabouts) of Manchester for petrol money only (approx £15 - £20?) I have tried to be tough with the grading as I'm keen that no one is disappointed. As you'll see there are a number that would set you back at least 3 figures (including Epsilons, Singing Swinging Counts, Barbara Dane, Fay Simmon, Mavis Rivers & Roy Hamilton) Ideal as collection builders and to sell on. As a rough guide, in JM's book these would set you back over £4K (though conditions do need to be considered). Advice / Guidance Regarding 'wants'
Hi Keith, PM on the way...you promised it wouldn't hurt! Chris

Advice / Guidance Regarding 'wants'
Hi Folks, Just a quick note seeking advice / guidance on the best way to secure those harder to find, bigger ticket-type 'wants' via SS. Is it best to try and list around half a dozen or so at once (to improve my chances of success) or just focus on one at a time? I can only afford to fund one record at a time so don't want to be seen as a time waster or end up in the enviable (but sadly unaffordable) position of being lucky enough to be offered potentially a couple of tunes at once and having to politely decline those I can't immediately afford. Are there any accepted approaches in such a situation? Or, can those that have used either or both approaches suggest what's most acceptable and what's been most successful? Also, is it advisable (or indeed acceptable) to stipulate minimum gradings? Is it wise to indicate the price range I'd contemplate paying based on grades (so as not to waste anyone's time)? Any opinion you can share would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in anticipation. Chris

Hm Revenue & Customs
What's the value above which duty becomes payable? I recently got a reasonably expensive record from the States and even though the seller stated nowhere near what I'd paid he still stuck $100 on the green customs declaration label. Normally sellers just state a few dollars. I wasn't charged any duty. Was I lucky or was I just under the limit? Chris
