  1. A couple of weeks ago I was playing classic oldies at Keith Minshull's birthday do. One of a group of people who'd been dancing energetically and enthusiastically all through my spot came over and asked me to play the Timewarp! What were they on then?
  2. The Isley Brothers' version of "Whispers" is a gem.
  3. I'm fairly sure this is an old typo that's got copied and perpetuated over the years, I've never seen it on British. On a similar theme, there's supposed to be a Sam Dees release on UK Major Minor (If it's all wrong/Don't keep me hanging on) - has anyone ever seen this? I've got a catalogue from the 60's which lists it, and it's still in the latest Record Collector price guide, yet I've never seen it. Can anyone confirm its existence?
  4. Steve Smith bought it from me, just after Dave Thorley started playing it, while it was still covered as Mel Britt. I got it in a Soul Pack in 1976, so it's got to be earlier than that date
  5. How about the Ledgends "Gotta let you go" - OK it's not the Northern side, but it came out on Locket, Red Balloon and Commonwealth United
  6. Try "Motown Review" and "No time like now" by Philly Cream - top-notch disco (well I like them anyway)
  7. Does anyone know anything about a UK release for Marilyn Grimes "Ooo sweet love"? I'm sure I remember Pat Brady writing about it in Echoes in the early 80s, and saying it had been put out on a UK label called something like West 67th Street. I've since found a blank label test pressing with a solid centre which plays "Ooo sweet love", with the matrix no. WSS 101 (which fits with the label name I think I remember - unless memory's playing its old tricks again). Any info?
  8. It's on "Caviar and chitlins", on RCA (1969). It sounds great too - I hadn't played it for years.
  9. "Finger poppin' woman" on Fee Bee 227
