Funnily enough last week I retrieved an old tape box from the loft and have been listening to two tapes of Dave Godin on Richard's show - recorded around the time of the release of Deep Soul Treasures Vol 1. I never met Dave - and of course used to read his B & S articles in the late 70's (a lot of which probably went over my head at the time!) What struck me re-listening to the tapes are Dave's absolute love for Soul Music, his humanity and his obviously wicked sense of humour. His Kent cd's are in my opinion a magnificent testament to his memory.

  12. Without listening to the link Simon, Sam's "Tyrone Davis" "A Changed Man" C/U at the time was the powerhouse that is Geater "Breathtaking Girl" House of orange.
  13. Yes Gavin, Superb concert - full on Jazz, really nice intimate venue. I really felt like I was watching a slice of history. Bobby Wellins playing sax with Stan Tracey Quartet....he's a 70 year old Glaswegian who obviously has seen it all, and has been recording since 1956. Fantastic and so moving. Also Harry Beckett - again must be 60+. And legend Stan Tracey too... I did'nt stay for Gilles - He was playing on the concourse as I came out (something quite tribally) and I did'nt want it to break the spell I was under...I just wanted to melt away into the night...
  14. Hi Jock, Yes should be in over the weekend - I'm off to The Sage Gateshead tonight to see Stan Tracey/Bobby Wellins and Harry Beckett. Proper 60's/50's UK Jazzers! Hi Lee, Whilst I always looked south to Leicester where footy was concerned, musically Nottingham was the place for me! The Brit every friday, Notts Palais Dayers/Niters and Jonathon's coaches to Wigan from the Salutation. Never went to Leicester much - Tiffs Dayers but that was about it! Loughborough YWCA - some memories there....first youth club exposure to Northern in '76.... Leviene must go....thats Craig not Ian :-)))

Biggest influence on me was Chris Fletcher's "Soul-Source" magazine out of Nottingham circa '79. This introduced me to the world of "newies" and made me realise the importance of keeping things moving forward. All the following Dj's at various times - Richard Searling,Soul Sam, Arthur Fenn,Poke, Keb and Guy. Also a special mention to Ady Connolly (Derby) whose awesome collection early '80s was a never ending inspiration.
  21. "Lonely Boy" - It's midtempo with big voiced Ronnie shining over stabs of brass and nice girly backing. Another James Bynum production too. Cheers, Robin
  22. Yes Simon "Let Me Down Easy" is CLASS! The other side of Ronnie Stokes is decent too. Robin.
