The objective was to raise money for a very worthwhile charity. We had a great venue in Nantwich and tremendous support from Nantwich Council especially the technician Joe, bar staff, security staff and a whole host of volunteers. Over 400 guests arrived (very early) and the atmosphere was tremendous. Thanks to every one of them! They were fantastic. In total we raised just over £6000 which has been sent to Papyrus. Not sure if there will be another one but we have had a quick chat about having a live band as the main attraction although the ticket prices would be significantly increased. Not sure if people would pay £25- £30 per head?

Only 7 days before the Papyrus Charity event and a gentle nudge to those intending to attend, that we are over 80% sold as of 5 September. If you are travelling any significant distance to the Nantwich Civic the advice is that you should contact Barbara on 07786571982 to guarantee a ticket on the night. Thanks to all contributors this is really a 21st Century problem and fascinating at the same time. My understanding is that only the author can see the number of hits the ad has received. If the bots want to buy the tickets maybe we need to rent a bigger venue! I did an all-nighter pre-Covid (2018) and was I astonished to see over 6000 hits, which at the time was based on a venue with a maximum capacity of 500. I never really thought it probable at the time, but maybe this has been happening for up to 10 years? My current ad on Soul Source (12 September 2025 @ Nantwich Civic Hall) has had a great response and we monitor this by asking customers where they saw the advert, at the point where they buy a ticket. It has already sold 75% of capacity and that is the only number that really matters. KTF Mike Harris

Hi Colin I can't believe that of all the views on this page nobody has commented about Derek. My brother and I ran the Thursday night soul sessions at Dane Bank College from 1967-1970 where Derek was a regular attendee along with another recently deceased dancer, Ian Cadman (Caddy). Derek was without any equal on the dance and even the girls in the cages used to stop dancing and watch a genius at work. We were close friends even after I had relocated to Teesside and we met up for a night at The Top Deck in Redcar, following Derek's attendance at a match between M'boro and Wolves. Happy days! I am doing a Northern Soul charity session at Nantwich Civic on Friday 12 September 2025. You will probably know many of those attending? Tickets will be on sale in September 2024.
