What's this worth on an original Okeh 78?

Big shame. An institution amongst UK indie stores. Spent many happy times chatting, drinking tea and selling-in the monthly new releases to Baz and Jim (amongst others), when I was a record label rep...many moons ago! I think the only possible future for independant record stores in the UK is within vinyl...of the second hand variety. Yes, we all buy via the internet, but a small independant second-hand vinyl/collector's store with a low rent still stands a chance? The internet can't beat face-to-face buying/trading, surely?

If I remember correctly, the instrumental side to the LJ Reynolds is the same as Don Gardner & The Checkmates on Spectacular, albeit on that label it is simply called, 'Cookin''.

I used to put it on tapes in the mid to late 80's...quite a good dance track with a fair number of fine Northern ingredients. Pops up on the 'Bay fairly regularly and fetches £50 or thereabouts. It is also on his album also on Awake...on yellow vinyl too...just as rare (if not rarer) than the 45.

Thirded. Dirty, gritty, lo-down Detroit Soul!

Seven copies in two hits apparently...certainly not enough to satisfy demand or to affect it's warranted safe four-figure valuation...imo. This is one of the truely great Chicago Soul sounds...faultless...harmonies par excellence...brass section from Heaven etc etc...LOVE IT!

SELF EDIT: Good grief, I just spotted your seperate thread for the Icemen! Glad my memory is still working as it is a fair amount of years ago since I saw it in his racks!

He's a Soulie. That clip was shot mid-way through a nighter in Osaka just for a larff...the main dancefloor is small so folk also dance outside and in the hotel lobby next-door, I kid you not! You can also see him on one of the infamous 'Northern Soul Picnics in Yoyogi Park' clips on YouTube. Kanta regularly supports Soul venues in Japan and travels many miles to dance/listen to the music we all love...including coming over to the Cleethorpes Weekender...where he won the dance competition. He is also a lindy-hop dancer and is a nice guy.

"Lee Blackmore & The Soul Searchers", to be precise Soul Bowl had quantity at one stage and they were floating around London 100 Club/Record fairs for as low as £25 at one stage...we all had copies! (Ignore his other 45s on the label...not Northern). Ever-popular and an easy seller nowadays, mind!
