Chuck Kenwood - That’s The Time (C.O.D.’s Kellmac mispress) Mint- £200 Killer semi-known northern/R&B that is preposterously rare on Night Owl (two copies?) presented here in its slightly more common format as a mispress of the C.O.D.’s ‘I’m A Good Guy’ on Kellmac. A mystery until a year or so ago for those fortunate enough to own one until recently ID’d by Matt Weingarden. Demon Brothers - Uh Huh (Quinvy) Mint- £150 BOOM! This 45 is an absolute bomb. Semi-know, rare as hell, storming funk edged northern that will set the dance floor on fire. Was selling at around £400 at one time and whilst price seems to have dropped with a few copies appearing out of collections it remains a very rare 45. Bob Marshall And The Crystals - You Got Me Crying/I’m Gonna Pay You Back (L-Rev) Vg+ £300 Raw as you like, under the radar group northern, double hitter that very very rarely comes to market. A copy made £425 on eBay a year or so ago and the last Discogs sale was £287 (is someone playing one or both sides currently as demand seems to be rising steeply?) Known to collectors but not sure this has ever been played out consistently and certainly is yet to have its day. Both sides sound right for now, with flip having a garage soul feel to it. Errol Chandler - What Have I Done (Power-Pac) Mint- £200 Stunning and virtually unknown mid tempo crossover/northern rarity that really stands out - incredible that 45s like this are still out there and under exposed. Can only find a couple of recorded sales on Discogs, none on Popsike and none on any of the FB groups. Power-Pac was an imprint label of Scram out of New Orleans with a few high end rarities to its name. Given its obscurity it must be as rare as those few recorded sales suggest and given its quality this one has an enormous future. Larry Sanders’ sublime lowrider rarity in superb condition (three DNAP marks away from Mint-). Little Ronnie And The Chromatics - What A Day This Have Been/Speak What’s On Your Mind (HLS) Vg+ (small edge warp DNAP, couple of barely audible ticks in first 15 seconds - see clip below - otherwise grades strong Vg++ £400 Okay this is a seriously rare 45. There’s one on Discogs at £750, but prior to this I’ve only seen it come up once and that was in 2016 on a Manship Auction (N.B. That copy had some serious H2O damage to one side). In John’s own words: ‘You are viewing one of the golden-unicorns of Rare Soul collecting, so outrageously Rare, even long standing collectors of the Bay Area vinyl, have never seen a copy.This is only the 2nd. copy I’ve ever come across in my lifetime’. Admirations - My Admiration For You/Heaven Is In Your Arms (Paree) Ex £350 Increasing interest in sweet soul and lowrider 45s has seen demand for this exquisite group harmony ballad increase significantly and, as a consequence, the price has more than doubled with its last two sales on Discogs reaching £500 in 2020 and £525 last year, my last copy went to a US collector in BIG trade. Flip it for another wonderful slab of northern group harmony that has - as mentioned- been somewhat overlooked in favour of some of their other outings. Beware not all sides play ‘Heaven’ in the flip, but this ones does (a rarity of a rarity). This doesn’t get come to market often, and when it does it’s a lot more expensive!
