News: Thailand Weekender - Pattaya Soul Weekender -Nov 2012
Kevin, Will be following this thread with interest. I am in Phuket, Thailand. Anybody else seen any signs of NS life in Thailand, Cambodia, Myanmar(!) or even Laos drop me a line. Been retired from the scene since about '85 but still keep tabs through various sites, youtube etc. It is in the blood. I know it when I come across something online, hit 'play' and the obsessive compulsion kicks in, hairs stand on end.............. Keep on keeping on / AJ

News: Thailand Weekender - Pattaya Soul Weekender -Nov 2012
Hello fantastic news we have now confirmed our Top Class DJ Line up for this event (see thread below) Mick H - The man with the Tunes you want to hear Keb Darge - Northerm Soul Maestro Guy Hennigan - Mr Stafford Jorg - Record Shack Austria Dave Flynn - Japans finest Dean Anderson - Living Legend More to follow........................................... We appreciate the positive feed back we have received already, if your serious about coming dont delay in getting on our mailing list. kcox@soulspinner.com Best Kevin / Guy Sawadee Kap or Hello from Thailand, After several years extensive travel through South East Asia, myself and Guy Hennigan have decided what the area really lacks despite the rich culture , landscape vistas, beaches, bars and salacious night life is a "Right Good Soul Weekender". To date we have sourced an excellent dance venue in the city of Pattaya a resort destination south of Bangkok and are currently working with local hoteliers and flight companies to offer an all inclusive package. Occurring between 7th and 14th November 2012, the format will be World Class DJs doing what we all love best over 3 nights (9/10/11 November) leaving ample time for various other activities, in this unique setting. There is a large ex pat community here and a recent charity soul nite saw some 180 attendees. An overwhelmingly positive response following dialogue with DJs, fellow promoters and soul devotees, seems certain that this will be one of the major happenings this year and we expect a rapid take up once the package is finalized. feel free to email us:kcox@soulspinner.com Best Kevin / Guy

i went to an alniter as a 15 year old taken by older mates, in wardour street , the marquee club even got the membership card somewhere , i was treated as an alien with my broad yorkshire accent. lot of very flash women and heavy duty broad shouldered west end criminals -very evil ,kray twins stomping ground, a bottle of coke was 10 shillings ! a weeks pocket money!

I turned it down when he offered it to me. And I gave him Ian's number... "Send your demo tape to Ian," I suggested. "I think he might be in the market for a bland record." But Ian turned him down too... I was quite impressed. Just a bit of harmless fun. Paul

News: Greatstone Soul Club Has Finished
was recommended to get across to the Greatstone by two of the best people i know on the scene ..the much travelled Mick n Mo ...and believe me ,if they recommend something or someone..i listen! Everything i hoped it would be and more...and a top set of guy's running it ...all with great taste in music and knowledge to match ...and willing to share too! I even got to bring a box on my first visit and had the pleasure of double decking with Budgie ,and then an invite to dj on the same bill as Karl Heard No ego's ...just true soulies, putting on a night to share with us their different tastes in the rare and underplayed tunes ,that make travelling from the four corners of the Uk a easy choice . Thanks for a few great memories ..and let's hope we see /hear it's all just a bad dream ...and it's business as usual down the basement ..known as the GREATSTONE

Hi fella's, it's been an education musically to have known you people, fabulous taste in soul and always with the originals only ethos, i've spent many an enjoyable night down at the Greatstone, you gave me the opportunity to hear some of the finest music ever made and thanks to your friendship allowed me the information to obtain a few of these memorable and cherished items, i sincerely hope you find a new venue, everyone's collections deserve to be shared. Lastly thanks for giving me the chance to play my records some years back, a tremendous honour and privilege. Take care and be lucky Brett F.

there are no drum machines on the album. The only thing that isn't "live" are the strings, naturally. And Rick unless you've heard the whole album maybe you should reserve judgment? Give it a try.

News: Twisted Wheel Closing Petition and No Prestatyn Spring 2012
Why not persuade the developers to rebuild the Wheel in the basement of the new hotel? They moved the cavern in Liverpool and rebuilt it. Why not the Wheel. The Twisted Wheel is as much an important part of England's musical heritage as the Cavern. I'd prefer the layout of the old Wheel on Brasenose Street, with its different dance rooms and coffee bar. I was getting worried, Ian... I thought it was just me! R Kelly always sounds a bit "contrived" to me, vocally and musically. But it was pretty interesting for five minutes.

News: The Flamingo Club in Wardour Street
I,d have thought the only links you,d be able to get would be googled stuff available to anyone. It was the 60,s! I know blokes a bit older than me who used to go there and and the one thing in common they said about the place was it was extremely dodgy.
