Is Bobby James' name really Bobby James? I heard it was Bobby Newsome (of the Vontastics) under another name. Can you confirm that it is a different person? Thanks a lot.

tommy payton is from Gary, IN has a couple rare records on harvest as little tommy. One is really good early soul / R+B, it's called "teenage lover" and is by "little tommy and the chantes". There's also an okay early 70s tommy payton on tangerine (that I've never seen with a flip). Don't know if it's the same guy for sure. But the harvest guy is the staff guy.
  3. I've only ever seen the yellow version, the orange version must be rarer. great track. I read somewhere that Bobby Sansom was actually a White artist that came to the bay area from England, and that Sly Stone discovered him somehow. Anyone know the details? I can't remember where I read that, I think on the internet somewhere.
  4. also, the seller only takes money orders, which makes it a pain for bidders and maybe took down his bids some.
  5. Robert Tanner was VG. You think the VG Robert Tanner should go higher than $1500? At least on popsike, cleaner copies went for $2000-$2500.

    eboney essence (it's spelled "eboney")
  7. no limit is on that mercury LP that Guess who's back in town is on
  8. Keith (the guy I interviewed) is second from the left in the video, the guy singing lead is Dwight Dukes, he walks past Keith at one point. Don Cornelius polices youtube pretty well, the clip will probably be taken down soon (all soultrain vids get taken off quickly).

you can tell me I don't understand northern soul and I have to be a part of it, that's fine. Maybe it represents working class Britain during the 70s. But please don't tell me that it had a "rhythm flow and lyrical interpretation that was synonymous with 60s Black America", relative to a sound I'm talking about that probably much more closely represented the sound of "60s Black America." There's a reason that northern soul tracks are the B-sides of the intended US A-sides, and a reason why the records are so rare and no one bought them in the US. This is my last post on the subject, don't want to get into a thing with someone on here about this, but I couldn't let such a ridiculous comment go unaddressed.

I collect vocal harmony soul, many big northern records sound like total crap to me and devoid of "real song substance." "Baby don't you go" is one of my favorite records of all time, actually, along with the perfections on Tri-City "girl you better hurry".

not true, I keep losing VG to VG+ copies on ebay at about $200-$250. 10 copies on popsike means MANY MORE than 10 copies on ebay, as popsike does not index every auction.

if anyone has a copy to sell at the more realistic prices quoted (e.g 300 pounds for mint, less for lesser condition) please pm me. Thanks.

Eddie Billups and the Gigs have a fantastic mid-60s record on Maxx -- New York Kangaroo. It sounds like the larks "the jerk." Craig Moorer had some copies for $25, I recommend people buy them while they're still up.

i have it on a blue issue, it's rarer on the white demo. I'd guess around $100 but might be higher. Known by funk collectors, actually, as it's a rap sample.

I play it every week as the theme song to my radio show. Of course, my show IS on the south side of Chicago! FYI, this record came out with two label versions, the one with the artistic OLE script and just as block OLE print. I think the block one is rarer. No one seems to know what happened to Otis Brown, for example, I know a couple of his label mates from the Para-monts and they don't even know (one of the Para-monts, Rosemarie Rice, who has since passed, even dated Otis). If Otis is still alive, he's probably not in Chicago any more.

just sold on ebay for $12.55

that must be why the word "label" is consistently spelled as "lable" all over the cover of my 2nd edition guide.
  24. Thanks a lot. The thing is, the doowop guys were the original bootleggers and the record (esp. the envious side) also appeals to doowop collectors. Either way, it wouldn't exist in both forms ('world' and 'love') as a boot in the same way, so I'm convinced it's an original. Thanks everyone.
