  1. Glad you can't argue with 340, personally I have no interest whatsoever what my 4 grown up kids think, in return neither have they any interest in my records, my only point is how will the thing move on, even at a snails pace (even the most dyed in the wool oldies fan warms to another tune every now and then) if everyone is pointlessly lugging the same box of 200 boots around? That new discovery for that artist, that then gets booted won't happen surely? If there's no original there's no boot
  2. Probably not put as eloquently as the above, but I think I'm correct in thinking Spyder Turner, or any other artist would have never been recognised in NS terms if the original release of any 45 had not been found and played, before it was ever bootlegged, the point being any artist may be grateful that their release was served to the masses via dodgy vinyl they must ultimately be grateful it was discovered in the first place, if this didn't happen there would be no 'latter' and won't be again,
  3. Just a thought, 'Back in the day we all bought bootlegs' is a common comment and very true, but back then apart from cassettes it was the only way to own and listen to the tunes, Today with the advantage of technology we can listen to almost anything any time in the comfort of our own home, so why on earth would a youngster starting out want to lug a heavy box of boots around when they can carry 1000s of tracks on their key ring? Surely the only good reason for carrying heavy boxes all over the shop is because what's in those boxes is worth the effort?
  4. Yes we can Barney, we can go and start even more venues and nights to satisfy your desire for equality, but , for any reasonably worthwhile event, I would imagine any promoter is doing their best to put on an enjoyable night, to go out of their way to incorporate particular sections of age and/or gender would be discrimination in itself,
  5. Correct!! There will be no men in the next Wimbledon womens final either, but that wasn't the point, whoever a promoter sees fit to employ to make the most of a night they have decided to stand or fall by is up to them, regardless of age, gender or collection, it's up to you to attend or not, Or you could do it yourself, then again maybe not
  6. Tomorrow (new years day) there will be a full football programme, I would like to bet there will be no over 50s playing in the four professional divisions, is that ageism? It is what it is, if someone gets an invite to DJ then they get an invite regardless of age or gender, if they don't then they don't,
  7. If they are well attended then they must be delivering what's wanted, maybe jaded to you but just changing the age and gender of the line-up and allowing an 'any format will do policy' may not enhance the experience, then maybe it will, so maybe it's best you suggest it to the promoter
  8. And my niece earns more in a week than I earn in a month, it's always been the same, different folks earn different salaries, have different expenses, If you wanna take up fishing and want the best tackle, the shop owner won't give you a discount for working in a call centre, it costs what it costs, I would love a Flash McKinlay, will probably never have one, but get by quite comfortably without one,
  9. I will never be as well off as I was when I worked full time and paid me mam a few bob for my keep, ever since then it's been a case of 'limited means', not saying all the 'youngsters' are still 'at home' but everyone has differing means for various reasons,
  10. I've said it before, if somebody wants a record enough to post on here they should be willing to state what they are willing to pay, all this PM me with condition and price is nonsense, tired of time wasters wanting to haggle over records I'm not in any rush to sell anyway, but willing to let go for market value if they really want it, I don't bother with others 'wants' any-more and haven't for a while,
  11. 2 of my boxes came from Germany, an ex pat makes em to measure, like you say Ian he's a bugger to track down as he only makes em as and when, had mine a few years now, beltin quality and good handles, not cheap though,
  12. Seem to remember Bob Hinsley finishing the Ritz nighters with this, not sure how many times he finished with it but I remember it as if it was every one, probably nothing of the sort, Jimmy Cobb - So nobody else can hear https://youtu.be/kOFtH67FyUk
  13. Of course it does, that's my point, someone who has been playing to NS dance floors for a lifetime, kinda knows how to do it and usually is busy enough to demand a fee,
  14. Because contrary to popular belief you can play a set of classic oldies at one oldies event and go down a storm, play the same set elsewhere (another oldies event) and die a death, which is why experienced DJ's like say Ginger can read what's required and deliver, the crowd may not have a clue who is playing the tunes but they will know they had a good night, A bit like Eric Morecambe and Andre Previn, you can play all the right records but play them in the wrong order and it can be pretty disjointed,
  15. Robert I have an original demo, why on earth would I want to buy your poxy re-issue?
  16. So now you know it's a re-issue Rob will you be throwing it away? You don't play re-issues surely?
  17. Rob, the Rampart issue/demo being rarer doesn't make it any less of a re-issue, or does it?
  18. Moldie, I am only referring to a previous topic on here myself, and from memory it's the same recording, not just band members, it's a re-release with a change of label and artists name, then again knowing my memory I could be making all this up lol
  19. I stand corrected then, but aren't they the same track just under different artists names? Which would make the Majestics the original would it not?
  20. Aren't they the same track? With the David and Ruben being released a couple of years later without the 'Majestics' intro?
  21. Of course it is, but as I said it's often seen as 'funny', sometimes it's as though only outsiders have a drink and make a dick of themselves,
  22. Yep, and it's not always 'outsiders' but that's when it seems to be acceptable, funny even
