Northern In The Mainstream
NS will always be misrepresented in mainstream media as theres not a person (or persons) on the planet that could do a presentation that wouldn't be the catalyst for a mega debate on here on where they got it wrong/right! Personally i voted 'don't care' cos i don't care what the state of the scene will be when i'm not around! why should i? its a hobby/pastime not a religion! Things are born, grow then die, why should NS be any different? And if it dies before me then i shall have to find somethin else to spend rediculous amounts of money/time on! In the meantime i shall carry on having a jolly good time while it lasts! Pete

Trouble In Northants?
Sean, when you say massive hit do you mean accross the pond? As my source of info (guinness book of hit singles) says nothing about it charting on these shores! The plot thickens! Pete

Does A Dj Own 'djing Rights' Of A Record?
All i am trying to say is there should be respect for other Dj's on at the same nite as you - only of course if you know what they've got. spot on!!!!!

Does A Dj Own 'djing Rights' Of A Record?
I take your piont that if the 'originator dj was any good he would've moved on but does that not also apply to all djs? so if the undercard as you put it expect the originator dj to move on then shouldn't they? as for playing it more in respect of the artist, it should ideally be only played the once on the night, IMVHO

Does A Dj Own 'djing Rights' Of A Record?
very succinct! if you agree theres a million other tunes and the said tune is to be only played once on the night, and its between yourself and the dj largely responsible for the tune being popular you think 'first up best dressed' is the best decider? very courtious indeed!
-
Does A Dj Own 'djing Rights' Of A Record?
but you can play it to your hearts content but not on the same night as said dj, personally i think it shows a severe lack of imagination if the said tune can't be sidestepped, there is after all a million other tunes! you are probably only aware of and own the record largely down to the said dj sticking with it in the first place, so i wouldn't say thankyou for bringing this tune to my notice by playing it to a crowd thats waiting for someone else to play it!
-
Does A Dj Own 'djing Rights' Of A Record?
I take it if you discovered a tune that became popular you wouldn't mind it being played before you got 'up there' after a few punters have requested you play it beforehand? personally ive never really been in that situation but i imagine its dammed infuriating.
-
Does A Dj Own 'djing Rights' Of A Record?
my thoughts exactly Bearsy and just to add as i said before if theres the slightest possibility any given tune may appear bad manners to another dj then forget it and choose another! End of!

Does A Dj Own 'djing Rights' Of A Record?
If a person considers themself to be labelled and paid as a dj is it not to much to ask that they carry enough original material to be able to play for 60 or so minutes without resorting to 'bootlegs' or stepping on another dj's toes? not even running it by another dj! if unsure play somethin else! quite simple really IMHO, Pete

A P'd Off E-bayer
Ironic this, as ive just walked in from work to open a package to find a record in two halves, gutted! but what really pi**ed me off it was in a new cardboard mailer well taped up but no fookin cushioning inside! so just rattlin around in a mailer that could fit half a dozen 45s in! ffs Pete

First And Last Northern Record
I agree but thats a term of speech, whereas the soul minded folk that had 'retired' from their 'scene' (being very careful here on the terms i use lol) prior to 1970 ish don't regard NS as a term of speech but a different 'movement' altogether, and i don't think they would be offended at being tagged a 'soulie' as much as a 'northern soulie' gettin me coat lol
