  1. A very Special Edition Release from Soul Direction and Melvin Davis. LIMITED TO APPROX 100+ COPIES. AVAILABLE TO ORDER FROM FRIDAY 23rd FEBRUARY 5pm. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE PRODUCT WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE ON THE SITE AT PRESENT. THANK YOU. As many of you will recall, few months back we at Soul Direction, with help from Jim O’Hara, negotiated a deal to release a fully licenced 45 of Melvin Davis’s previously unissued “I’m That One That Loves You” a track that Melvin wrote but was never legally released. All proceeds from the release went direct to Melvin himself to assist with his ongoing medical bills. Melvin was blown away by the support shown from the release and was extremely grateful for the contributions made by Soul Direction via the Detroit soul fans who purchased the 45. These funds & the contributions from the “GoFundMe” page previously set up were appreciated more than you could know and helped Melvin cover many of his treatment costs through an extremely tough time financially, which I am sure most of our soul friends in the USA will understand, showing just how lucky we are to have a funded health system here in the UK. Since the release, I have spoken to Melvin on many occasions and got to know him a little better, and whilst he is now in a much better place, the treatment involved can be long and expensive and it must be hard enough staying positive when facing these constant medical costs. Jim and I have been aware of this for some time, and we have been looking for a way to help Melvin a little more, and hopefully can do this now. Whilst the initial release was a huge success for Soul Direction, and sold out within a few days, we constantly get asked for copies, which got us thinking of an idea to fulfil the requests and help Melvin at the same time. So rather than just press more of the same copies, a direction we would not take, we wanted to be able to offer something a little different and Jim and I have hopefully came up with, what we think is the perfect solution. Soul Direction have commissioned a Limited Red Vinyl Edition of the release. This will have a unique logo showing the “Limited Edition” version, both on the front cover and the labels. There will be approx. 100 copies (give or take a couple of extras the pressing plant may supply). These will retail at £30ea. We think that is a fair price for something that will be a true collector’s item and, as before, all proceeds will go directly to Melvin to help with his ongoing medical situation. Buying this release means you get to help a true Detroit Legend through a tough time, and also get the Detroit masterpiece ‘I’m The One That Loves You’ on a limited-edition showpiece single. This track will not be release again through Soul Direction We want to limit these to one per customer which gives more people the chance to own one and I certainly hope you will treasure it as much as we do. These will go on sale Friday 23rd Feb at 5pm. Thank you once again for your support Alan, Jim, Jordan Wilson for the artwork and of course Melvin Davis (The Detroit Soul Ambassador)
  2. Thanks Jordan. Hopefully people see that, but reading Norman's messages make it all worthwhile.
  3. Marie Knight - That's No Way To Treat a Girl - Musicor W/D Cond: VG Although this has a lot of marks, they are very light marks and it does play incredibly well against the visual look. Still a nice playable copy - £350
  4. The 1977 Wee Album “You Can Fly on My Aeroplane” on Owl, has always been a holy grail in LP collecting with some stunning tracks contained within its grooves. None more so that “Try Me”, so when the 45 was discovered, it wasn’t long before it became a true modern soul anthem in clubs across the country and beyond. Norman Whiteside was the main man in the journey of this Ohio group and many years later when his music was re-discovered by Rob Sevier at Numero, additional tracks were added to the catalogue from the vaults and the rest as they say is history. Having owned both albums, it was a “No Brainer” for me to lay down “Try to Tell You How I Feel” & “We Could Get It Together” onto a Soul Direction 7”. LP’s and downloads are a great media for music, but there is still something special about a 7” 45rpm vinyl record. I had messaged Norman once we were close to pressing the record and like most things, they get lost in the world of spam folders, so another message prompted a response, and what a wonderful response it was. Norman was very happy with the result and the overall finished product and was happy that his music is still giving joy to soul fans around the globe. I sent him some copies of the release and he promptly sent me photos of him with the picture sleeve in hand. In his own words “Trying to Tell You Just How I Feel was my second favourite song on the album. Find Me, Love Me was my first favourite. I appreciate that people like you are keeping my music alive”. Norman has a CD of some of his more recent work and sent me a copy.. Hopefully things are moving forward with Numero on a second album project, and he deserves nothing less. A real gentleman whose kind words make it all worthwhile. Thank You Norman Whiteside and Wee. xxx Get you copy here and show the love.
