  4. You took the words right out of my mouth, Tony! Also love this couplet from Eddie Bo: "If I ever get a dollar I'm gonna squeeze it until it holler"

  6. "Half-Way Loving" VG++ white promo (no E grade on my scale) $200 postage paid (paypal only) 1 copy--first come, first served EMAIL TO RESERVE: finewine@wfmu.org
  7. i quite like act 1's "it takes both of us"....i think of it as kind of a poor man's kool blues "can we try love again."
  8. hi. want to make me an offer on the issue? like the promo, it's vg. (on a m-, vg+, vg scale.) i'm looking for quite a bit for it (3 figures), as it does seem to be pretty darn rare....otherwise i'll probably put it on ebay in the next couple days....in which case you'll probably be the only bidder at $9.99! cheers, matt

  10. Well, I'll keep that in mind, but I've gotta figure out what I'm gonna do about pricing it...and which one I'll keep. For now it's not going anywhere.
  11. thanks. "you know i've tried" is much more common with "it's spring" as the flip, as far as i can tell....
  12. "I Think You're That Girl" It's an uptempo R&B dancer on One-derful 4826, with the flip "You Know I've Tried." It's on the soulfulkindamusic discography site, but only because I supplied the info. I have both a stock copy and a white promo, and I'm thinking of getting rid of one (this isn't a sales posting; it's an information-gathering/-sharing posting). It's obviously not to everyone's taste. I've never seen or heard of another one; does anyone else have it or know of it? Clip of it here: I Think You're That Girl, McKinley Mitchell Thanks, Matt

  14. i was charmed by the label! it was a dollar or less. i gave it to a friend back home who's a food writer who specializes in meat. i had to hit him up for a label scan just now.
  15. i found this among a bunch of turkish records at a used-book/record shop in ISTANBUL, TURKEY, a couple years ago. it's a country record, a promo 45 for a local meat purveyor in kentucky. TOP THAT! i can come up with no explanation.
  16. ...on blackjack. who needs? send an offer for this in-demander.
  17. All with scans and sound clips https://shop.ebay.com:80/merchant/soulbaby_...Q_sopZ12?_rdc=1
  18. Crafts: hand-thrown ceramics, mainly, maybe some beads and fiber stuff, too.
  19. Strange that some copies seem to place that 11825 Hamilton address in Detroit....It's not; it's in Highland Park, which is a doughnut hole of a municipality entirely surrounded by Detroit but is nonetheless an independent entity. (Hamtramck has the same setup.) My mom owned a small business on Hamilton circa 1969. Those blocks were so devastated in the years to come that you can't even tell there were ever ANY businesses around where hers was, much less the precise location of her shop, the Happy Medium. Sad.
  20. TY is Tyler, a street in Detroit. UN is University. These are telephone exchanges in different parts of Detroit. There were dozens. Similarly, the movie BUtterfield 8 gets its title from an exchange in New York. I got the following list from the Discuss Detroit forum. 2L exchange ARlington 27- CAdillac 22- CEdar 23- CHerry 24- CLifford 25- DRexel 37- ELmhurst 35- FItzroy 34- GArfield 42- HOgarth 46- IVanhoe 48- LAfayette 52- LEnox 53- MAdison 62- MElrose 63- MUrray 68- NIagara 64- NOrthlawn 66- OLive 65- ORegon 67- PIngree 74- PLaza 75- PRospect 77- RAndolph 72- REdford 73- And these exchanges which had 7-digit phone numbers (2L-5N) creating the following prefixes: 2L exchanges TEmple 831-,2- TEnnyson 836- TErrace 832- TOwnsend 866-,8-,9- TRinity 871-,2- TUxedo 881- TWinbrook 891-,2- TYler 894-,5-,6-,7- UNiversity 862-,3-,4- VErmont 835-,6-,7- VInewood 841-,2-
  21. Lonely and Blue/Treat Me Like You Want (To Be Treated) Anyone?
  22. i think it's really nice. it's a mild, catchy garage record with a dance beat. obviously it's not SOUL, but that doesn't disqualify it from being northern: cf. "time won't let me," "i'm in love with your daughter," etc....does anyone actually think those are soul records?
