The Laffayette...wolverhampton
Yes Pep and Helen are still running the hotel in Wales. Phil and Maureen Matthews quite often pop over to visit them. Referring back to my earlier post , as I was being stood up by Alan who should get off the bus but Helen. Decided not to wait any longer so Helen and I went off to the Gondolier. Pat

The Laffayette...wolverhampton
I used to go the "Laff" from end of 1970 until end of 72ish . Come to think of it, the very 1st time I went was when lots of us from Girls' High in Bilston bunked off for a Radio1 roadshow. That must have been 1969. There have been loads of great live acts on and I remember seeing Chairman of the Board and Jackie Wilson. I was away at college from 1970 so only went on Saturday nights. Came back for good in 1972 and remember Thursday as being a busy nite cos girl members got in free. Evo used to put on 2 LPs " Non stop Motown memories" and another which I can't remember. That's obviously a sign of old age as they are both in our loft ! In the early days a lad told me I ought go the the Cats if I enjoyed dancing to the tunes I did get on the floor for. It was only many years later that I realised he was Sponner ( probably still dancing in heaven ). The first time Alan asked me out was at the Laff on the night when Noel Edmonds made an appearance. I'm only 5 ft 2 and wondered who this little bloke was trying to get past. It was of course Mr E who is nowhere near as tall as he looks on TV. I will add that Alan actually stood me up when he should have met me 2 days later so don't know how we've now managed to be married for 35 years. Pat

People Who Don't Dance
I still dash to the dancefloor but Alan has the same problem as Dave . He had to give up dancing about 4 years ago as he can't walk the next day if he does . Pat

News Flash
We reckon it's our favourite venue now. Saw Mac's wife Deena about 1 hr ago and she's worried in case the numbers are down.I told her not to worry as Broad Lane is always packed. Alan reckons we can look forward to Mac playing some rare stuff. He has a massive collection and it's good to hear something different now+again.Even though I do still like some of my old favourites. there are some discs that still get me dashing onto the dancefloor.. Pat ps finished work + should really be doing housework but am saving energy for tonight ha! ha! pps just realised Dave that i've been up since 5 past 6 so we'll both be propping up eyelids tonight.Alan's been up since 4:45 so don't even mention it to him.

Hi Suzy I'm the same. Even bought some records yesterday.Well Alan did, but I'd picked them. He had me practising on the decks last night. I'm glad that I'd already asked my son to give me some tips.I think Alan was just trying to confuse me Max will be on stage to help us if we're stuck. At least there seems to be quite a few people reading our posts. It will be interesting to see what folk make of us. Come to think of it,I couldn't care less really. We're just going to have a laugh . The Alltogether
Caught the end of an interview with Gavin Claxton on the radio.I think he was responsible for the film and according to him it was withdrawn from a lot of cinemas. He said it was due out on dvd very soon. It may have been on a Stuart Maconie show. Pat

Strange Places To Hear Northern
Hobbycraft at Bentley Bridge,Wednesfield,Wolverhampton regularly play what I presume is a cd. Must ask them which one it is as there are some good tracks on it. Due to advancing age I can't remember exactly what was playing the last time I was there. Pat

Thanks Phil for saying that.I didn't actually volunteer but was asked by Max(with not much chance of refusing) if I would take part. When I put up my original "tongue in cheek" post I didn't predict the sort of negative reponse there has been. Without wishing to be boring by repeating previous posts, the idea of the nite is to have a bit of fun. good luck to all the others involved, especially my best mate Anne Cox, and also to Suzy KTF Pat ps no Dave Rimmer you won't find me prettier.

Don't think Max realised what controversy he would cause when he had an idea for a girls nite.Shall have to tell him how upset some people are at the thought of it. We know we aren't professionals like Joan(fantastic by the way). The venue we will be appearing at has no need of gimmicks as it is packed every month. Our nite will be the week after the regular one. As to only playing your own records, as we have joint bank accounts then they are my records aren't they. In future I'd better be much more careful with my choice of vocabulary. I have actually known male djs borrow records if they have had a request but don't have their own copy with them. best wishes Pat

I'm one of those "girls" and it seemed like a good idea when Max suggested it ages ago. Now I know it's only 2 weeks away I'm starting to feel a bit sick.My husband Alan isn't too keen on letting me anywhere near his precious records. Think we'll only have to play 5 or 6 records each so it won't be easy making the choice. On the night please be kind and patient because most of us have never been on the decks before. best wishes Pat

Pet Hates On The Scene?
We're obviously Soul sisters because I feel exactly the same way. If I like the beat of a record then I'll dance to it. The cost of that round piece of vinyl doesn't interest me 1 little bit(unless my husband has just bought new records of course ). It takes all sorts and it would be a bit boring if we all liked exactly the same set of tunes. Pat

Pet Hates On The Scene?
Sorry to say but at some venues I have to weave my way through the dancefloor cos it depends where the "Ladies" is. It's sometimes impossible to make your way around the edge as a lot of people choose to dance right in front of their table(if their lucky enough to have one!). To reply to "People who sit there and don't dance" My husband Alan would love to dance but I'm afraid his knees won't let him. On the odd times he has danced then he can hardly walk for 2-3 days. If he looks miserable it's only because he's thinking about the nites when he was on the floor all night. Never mind I make up for it and spend most of my time dancing for both of us.

Who Likes 'thrill A Moment?'
The same would happen to me if my hair weren't so short It's one of the best.

Uk's Top Northern Dancers Today
Bit behind the times I know joining this discussion now, almost 2 weeks after everyone else. I love to dance and I also love to watch others out on the dance floor. Sometimes I recognise people by their dancing style. The only time I'm not too keen on gymnastics is when there is limited floor space and we're in grave danger of having our teeth kicked out . My mind might still be 17 as it was in 1969 but the body sometimes has trouble keeping up with the pace. i'll stop for abreather then join back in again. Pat

Wade In The Water
I agree too! Doesn't sound bad to me and I'd definitely dance to it. Your mate should be very proud of himself.I know nothing about the technical side of records only know what I like to hear. Pat

Favorite Intros
Quite agree with that as my friend and I make a dash for the floor. The Tomangoes- " I really love you" is another favourite intro along with my all time favourite Willie Mitchell's "That Drivin' Beat" Pat

Dancer's.. What's Your Fav Record At The Moment
Almost impossible to choose just 2. I'm very sad and always have to dash to the floor for Willie Mitchell and "That Drivin' beat". Says a lot about me I know. The 2nd will have to be "Candle" by Doni Burdick. When I sit and think about it a bit I shall probably come up with loads more. Pat
