Top Tip When adding your location doesn't just rely on the post code, try a few permutations of your address to see what gets you closest to your house. My postcode but me some ways off but I managed to get almost smack on by dropping the post code and adding my full address. Note to self, tell our lass not to sunbath topless! I can not believe you can see her spuds!

Run-out Groove Can we throw any light on the scratched in words and phrases found on the run out grooves. When did this first appear? Was this done for any other reason other than an "I was here" message? Does the inclusion of any of these scratched messages give validity to any records and do the have any impact on value? I had a scratched message on one of my rarer seventies records that said "Kill them all, Simon" I did hear a record collector once tell that he could see if there was a fake or an original via the words? Surely then the first thing to do when faking is to scratch a disc. Also the amount of time it must take to grab a single, scratch into it then place it back in the production should make this phenomena quite rare, but it is not?

South east of Bristol, east of Warminster! Mega to see just how isolated Imber was, getting the coach to Warminster then a tractor ride over the downs to get to the village, usually late! I can remember one evening on my way to the soul club, crossing a muddy turnip field wearing a leather coat and Polyvelts and getting chased by the lady boys from Upton Scudamore! I still write to one of them. Gordy, thanks for the invite!

I have always loved Maps although I can't seam to read on to save my life but as far as train spotters go I have loved maps old and new. Google are boss or it seams in the electronic mapping and I love the hybrid and satellite features that give a relatively new slant to our big blue marble we call earth. I think its ace that we can see the footprint globally of Soul Source and it makes it all just that little bit more real. I have for a long time though away from the silly cyber space attitude and I never really liked the anonymity of the net, this suits me fine to be able to add another dimension to who makes up our forum community and it makes me feel now that we are neighbors and that is a good thing indeed. I see Rob1159 registering from the West Coast of America, hope the weather is better there but my old mat Jan tells me you have had some rain? Not far from Malibu, that is such an exotic place and one of the zillions I have never been to! Rob1159 are you an ex pat? You're the first state side Soul searcher to SoulMap! Come on Ozz where are the sunshine Soulies? I know we have a few of our German cousins who have yet to register, nice to see Silvia and Michel at Prestatyn at the weekend.

Scooby dobby doo where are you? Soul Source "Map Feature" We have a new feature the SoulMap, there are some interesting things to come from this, you can zoom in and out to see just how may isolated or clusters of Soul Source members there are, at the moment no one has registered from Australia or the States? I'm sure this will come? We now have an at a glance idea where the Soulies are, well certainly those Soul Sourcers who have registered. We see that there are a number of concentrated areas and we can also see some rather isolated Soul Sourcers such as Ian in Ireland, Mshoals in Holland and Dave in Belgium. Looking at GB we see some clusters hugging the M1 from Nottingham to York forming a very narrow band and not bleeding too far from this corridor? There is a health smatter in the North West, and a "cross" like pattern in the midlands. We have a "horse shoe" pattern around London, Cambridge and Kent. Further South there are a small membership who hug that coast and looking West towards South Wales we see Pembroke and Newport showing North of York we see a stretch of membership reaching up towards Glasgow and Aberdeen. My first impression on this is that we see a concentration around the areas that have a long history and dare I say the origins of Northernsoul with the north of England seeing the most clusters. This is a quick snap shot of our locations but the SoulMap feature is very new and I am sure we will see some interesting locations gathering with time. I would like to see just how many people have "moved" to the more exotic locations compared to those local who enjoy the phenomena that is Northernsoul.

Last Night A Dj Save My Life
Last night a DJ save my life Upping the game I am going to say something now and invite it to be challenged......... "Now is the best ever time for Northernsoul and The Northernsoul Scene". Of course I miss not being able to chuck my self all over the floor as I once did and I regret that most of the hallowed building no longer exists. I loved the eighties, I loved the lean years during the nineties I loved the feeling of exclusivity and the believe that we were guarding some thing precious and discarded. If I have to be honest with my self, I love the scene as it is now; I'm well over the silly feelings I once had for those rejoining, I am now old enough to live and let live and party like its 1999! I think the music has changed, it has become more diverse and there are dedicated collectors and DJ's who are willing to play some thing a little special, this isn't new to the scene but we do seam to have more and more quality? Are we enjoying renaissance or are we all aware now of our immortality and milking it all like greedy pups? I feel that the DJ's are upping their game? We are seeing venues gravitating to the pinnacle and we watch the heard eagerly spurring on those who spin the rarest danceable tunes. Mid rift crisis? I've never felt so slim! I know what I look like in the mirror but I stopped looking a long time ago, I love the night time people and the Northernsoul Nighter scene just seams to be getting better and better? Have I had one or two many sugars in my tea? I don't care! There seams to be a real skip in every ones step at the moment and the music on offer just hits the spot. I was never a full tilt Wigan Casino go'er and I often felt a little left behind when I watched people drift off to a far away place whilst remembering those heady youthful days but now I see people do it once again fro venues that have happened within the last year or so! It's tremendous! The last weekender was awesome! Every one I bored was top class and I wonder if it can get any better for the scene as we are now enjoying? Is it just me?

Just heard this and I can honestly say that I am blown completely away! My father remembers dancing to this when it was a full tilt modern track and a little racey for some, well done Spanner you are doing it both for the DJ's who care and you are showing that mental health does not necessarily mean that you eat your own dung.

Northern Soul Film
"It's just a film" "It's only a game" This thread has touched on some quite complex issues; there is real passion and a guarding of the Northernsoul scene by some who see this film as an intrusive look at a slice of people's lives who have dedicated part of their souls. I don't think it's an easy brush off to say "It's just a film" unless you are in a position to not be effected by any adverse message the film may project. To not comment on a film before its release, or should I say, to ask not to comment on a film before its release, asks for a too bigger leap of faith for some one none of us know or trust? We should never underestimate the angst most will be feeling knowing that we have all ready had the chicken adverts and the Lambrini and it does seam that every time we are visited by the gliterazzi that we are plundered with little to no respect or sensitivity. "It's just a film" To some its just a film and always will be but to some, and I dare say most within this forum group it may be the writing of history and the problem with that is we don't know who's pencil case is being used! No one wants or needs a documentary and it will be great to see a true blue feature on the Northernsoul scene but people are far too quick to swallow without tasting what ever is served up by the media and with that in mind a lot of people are worried. The Europeans to not share our culture, we have a complex and deeply diverse youth culture that I believe is unique to us and the states? Yes we get the European copyists but this does not originate from social, geographical and economical roots such as ours. Northernsoul is not just about listening to a record and an explanation of the passion and how this part of black Americana has become part of our DNA, Northernsoul has become part of our very make up and for some it defines who we are, who we aspire to be and it is the theme music to many of us that represents a journey through life. And it that passion that none of us want to see diminish due to a mercenary. There is an old expression, "If you have to have it explained to you, ya just wouldn't get it"

Styrene'S Acetates And Strange Holes In Records
Styrene's acetates and strange holes in records A record collector's guide If you want to know what's what as far as rare records are concerned the best place to find the answer would be to ask an avid record collector here on Soul source? The worst place to find out about records n stuff is to go to some ones chalet after a weekender! Well it was during one of those conversations in a chalet that we got talking about those strange little holes you often see in 45rpm records, I always thought they where a result of duke box use? One of my learned colleague's insisted that the cause of these small holes was due to a rod being inserted into a line of records as they were used for ships ballast, hence the amount of records that ended up on these shores? Could any one please throw some light on this? Acetates, that's the next thing I want to clarify, is this a pre run of a record prior to a full press? Why was this done? Styrene, again we debated the reason for this and one of the reasons given was that during the Vietnam war America suffered a oil shortage and Styrene's where a cheep record? Also why are there words and phrase scratched into the run out of records? Who did these and why?

Mmmmmmmmm, having a beard stroking moment here Isabel. How would you feel if say your Dutch folk film had far too many references to the Dutch porn industry or say they hinted that the people of say Roermond where collaborators? How would it be if say there was a little too many references to the Dutch prostitutes or the Cannabis culture? I think the fear is that we will get stereo typed, or possibly made to look foolish? That's the fear, but it may turn out to be the best thing since sliced tomatoes?
