  2. Excuses used to go to Allnighters Telling your wife pork pies My missus isn't a bad old stick; she is a donkey wolloper and this is an expensive and time consuming past time so she doesn't usually drop her kegs when I want to be a night owl, I do know not to kick the bum out of this and diplomacy is the name of the game. On a Sunday after a nighter I am usually a cabbage but we made an agreement many years ago that if I went out I wouldn't ruin the complete weekend and we always put the family first. My son is at boarding school and my missus is generally riding her horse but I still need to tread carefully when broaching the subject of allnighters. No more so than this weekend coz it's Prestatyn! Not only have I had to listen intently to her drone on about the changes in the civil service and how she may have to relocate to Doncaster or Sheffield, I have had to convince her that Prestatyn is actually in Manchester, lord knows how I managed to pull that one off and I will no doubt burn in hell for fibbing! Mike, if Carol ever logs on can you ban her from reading this thread less I loose another nut! Does any one else ever have to tell a little white lie when they are planning a Nighter trip?
  3. good luck great to see things like this and I will deffo support it, our scooter club has done these just recently. https://www.tafsc.com/RESPECT.htm

Bit confused "The film makers are members on here" If this is the case then why have they not asked for input and comment prior to making the film? Surely that would have been the way forward? What we have now is a load of unnecessary speculation and a lot of people fearful that yet again the "scene" is going to suffer yet another bungled media project. I think if I had a budget for a film and I cared about getting as much right as possible then I'd be at least visiting forums, soul source has to be the electronic soul caf of today, crazy not to have used such an available asset that's free, relevant and chocker full of experienced soul fans. Of course we will always get a bun fight, don't all forums have that? I dare say that we would be united in things like music content, we may not all agree as to what to play but I'm dam sure we would have a list of "avoid at all costs'? If we do get a revival such as the Mod revival then this is what we have to look forward too......... I have to use my own experience for this and I dare say that there will be a few scootering Soulies who will echo what I am about to say.......... At first there will be a sudden influx of young people who will want to dress and imitate the era along with all of the dance and the music. This is greeted with open arms and I dare say that there will be some brilliant occasions as result of popular demand; we may see some superb acts coming over to the UK and some reissues of rare records. Dance studios may pop up and for a while we will bask in the heady atmosphere of novelty stardom. Reporters and writers will be ever so eager to shove mikes under every nose that whiffs of Wigan Casino. The born again expert will realise that there is a mega fast buck to be made and we will have new promoters slinging on ill thought out events that swamp those who are promoting now. As the rubber band stretches we may see some thing snap, The Isle of Wight and Chris Burton springs to mind? As the interest spirals up wards the quality line thins until the next best thing comes out and the kids drop their latest toy leaving those who remain to look dated and a little embarrassed, this happened with Mod. Mod had scooters and this entered into the DNA of some, our music may well infect in the same way? While the majority who I will call Plastic Soulies leave those who stay behind may well need to reinvent themselves and distance them selves from the un loyal, we saw this happen to an extent with the baggy pants and circle skirts, fine they have had their time in the wilderness and it seams ok for some to see a few reappear but like the Mod revival it is ok to see some "Mods" but the word mod now has such a cringe factor. I don't see anything wrong with the nighter scene as it is, I know I'm a frumpy kill joy, I want the film to be successful but I don't want a "Northernsoul Revival", I can barley deal with the born again's as it is!

"It's only a film", not to me it isn't! I appreciate that the producer can only go so far as to get authentic props and the like and the clip so far looks mega! I think every ones fearful of The U-571 episode, This movie sees the enigma code machine captured by a daring operation where the Americans board a German U boat and take the Enigma coding machine and breaking its code changed the course of World War II. In reality it was the British! Most of us can deal with small insignificant errors; let's hope we don't see too much poetic license.
  10. Alton Ellis "I'm Still In Love With You Girl" This will be my first ever dive into here so please don't hurt me! This will be my first ever dive into here so please don't hurt me! Just been listening to the late great Alton Ellis "I'm Still In Love With You Girl" Such a splendid creamy track that supplied da riddum for Althea and Donna - Uptown Top Ranking, possible the first reggae track that made me sit up and go Ooooooh well that and Marley's tour. Alton Ellis just blows me away and I am playing it over and over today!! Pete, not too sure what sub section this goes in mate?
  11. I must admit that this is one of the funniest threads I have ever read, thanks matt and Mace for making me giggle! I can remember watching the Mighty Bub cleaning his records on his shirt prior to playing them and then later at Chris Donnahughe house watching him rub them on the carpet! I would personally avoid chemicals, cleaned some thing once with our lasses nail varnish remover and it ate through! Baby wipes any one? This seam to get rid of any foreign matter such as gum when getting records from car boots and the places were kids have wrecked them. Warps, Mace your tire pressure is way too high mate, deflate deflate deflate is the rule sir! I have has success and made a few ash trays by ironing over thick paper trying to get rid of warps Ive even gone as far as air fix glue for minor cracks at the edge. Question: Does any one own a record that they will never play? Not due to damage, but because they want to keep mint?

LilJimmyCrank I think the original idea most likely starts as an artistic endeavourer but there are others who set out to make money, nothing wrong with either I suppose, that's the way the world goes around. Film has always had its inner turmoil and angst between the independent film maker and the established company. I think the struggle for artistic control is well documented and lots of movies get strained by the commercial machine. I am not saying all of them do because some gems make it through unscathed while some really need an experts polish. I think that here is the rub, we would all love to see a film made that didn't parody us or make our scene appear dated and sterile, and some would argue it is. I think we would all kinda love an epic made with a decent budget showing a sympathetic and well thought out approach toward what we love but I kinda suspect that what we want and what we will get are two very different beasts, however I haven't seen the movie and it may well end up to be the next best thing since Jaws 3.

Quadrophenia. I think this movie set the bench mark and most others just hit the skid mark! I'm racking my brain now to think of any other movie about youth cult that stands out, The Wanderers? Certainly well made but I'm no expert on that genre. I have a theory that we are all a bit too ready to cringe over any thing produced about the Northernsoul scene because we have quite a bit of surface cringe worthy content, some of the fashion and a few of the records don't do us any favors and you have to strip away a few layers of the onion to get to the real and endearing content. I think we are all a little miffed at some of the more hurried productions, not film, but musically, some productions proclaiming their slice of Northernsoul have not added to any kind of sincerity and smack of money making. We had the "Young Birds fly free" hoax, yup that's what it was and we have argued that little badger before. I also think that every time the press wants to show anything to do with Northernsoul it's either an old this is England clip or some wide eyed London based soulie. When Quadrophenia was being made we, the scootering fraternity, had a number of well known faces such as ginger from Bolton Spartans, Julio and Guido from Sheffield and some of the Barnsley lads, all were more than happy with the way the film was progressing and they spoke of attention to detail and the use of people within the scene. I think that is where we have a gap on this ne w film, I mean, how can it be really that good when no one has asked me to contribute? Don't these people know who I am!
  14. Mothering Sunday Just thinking of me old mum, have we any Northernsoul tracks that mention mothers? Diana Ross - You Can't Hurry Love I need love, love To ease my mind I need to find, find someone to call mine But mama said You can't hurry love Any more? ..............................

Little Stevie You should be very carful when asked by Londoners to go and make any kind of movie! I was asked once and stupidly accepted their invitation, I found my self wined and dined and taken to a show, Cats. I couldn't wait to see it. After the show I was asked if I wanted to go meet some of the performers backstage. Man, I was thrilled. But when I got back there, they were drunk and out of control. Rumpus Cat and Macavity kept feeling up my leg. I tried to leave, but, Rumpleteazer held me down, and... I was raped by Mr. Mistoffelees.
  16. I didn't dance at my first Northernsoul do, Blackpool Mecca was mine. Taken by my cousins girlfriend after being told that the stash of singles in their front room were Northernsoul singles. I remember getting up to the Highland Rooms and just standing there trying not to gawp. Back home Joey and Charlie showed me how they danced and I practiced and practiced. Stomping was the thing to be seen doing and the hardest step to master, spinning was almost demolition grade, lord knows how many things I destroyed trying to master that little thing. Beverley Longcroft was my school and for some time all you could see were lads trying to master the spin up and down the corridors. Wallies in Hull was my first ever public dance and I loved it! Disco was on its last legs and baggy trousers were deffo on their way out. The casual or smoothie was born and I was top smoothie! Burgundy leather jacket, pegs, five a side tash and a monster wedge! It was a change in music and dancing to Northernsoul, we didn't attack the floor like mindless wooden tops swirling about and hopping from foot to foot like the oldies stylee, we, the new wave, were a little more sophisticated both in our approach and in our dancing. There wasn't too much floor work as in chuckin yer sen about, the trousers I wore were definite too tight for that sort of palaver, powder blue cords, keo trainers and pods, kickers and stan Smiths. Hawian shirts and track suit tops, white socks of course! Love dancing even now and I fancy my self as a tubby kinda Billy elliot sept not as gay!
  17. Surely you can't see there being any one on this scene with more knowledge than me?
  18. Tip of the iceberg? More to come or scraping the barrel? Northernsoul Eldorado does it exist? This is no joke honest, last time I was at Stoke we were milling about the car park reluctant to go home for some reason, and during our ice scraping window exercises one of my friends handed me two home made CD's, "Try these, they're mega!". Now this sort of thing happens on a regular basis within the Northernsoul fraternity, some times we get a crock of dung and other times we get a passable CD. But here were two CD's chocker block full of top quality Northernsoul that I have never heard of yet it was pleasing to my ear immediately! I started thinking about how long I have listened and danced to our music and that I should not ever hear much that is unknown to me yet I find my self constantly hearing new fresh sounds at more and more venues. Have we still got an untapped vein of rich Northernsoul no one has heard of before? Is there still dumpster's worth of discs still ready to be discovered? Some say that the well is dry while others hint of mother loads too vast to ever get our eager heads round? I know there are a few Soul Sourcers who have traveled vast distances and put in a fair amount of shoe leather and dosh looking for these sounds are there piles of the black golden disks? Does Eldorado exist? Have we heard it all?????? I came away from Life line thinking that I know nothing about Northernsoul and each time I go to Bids I feel as if I have never heard music before, have I got Alzheimer's or are we having a Renaissance?

I used to love badges, at one time they represented the pathway of Soulies going to various events up and down the country and they looked like passport stamps and were worn proudly to show where they had been. They became iconic and fashionable but lost their real purpose especially when people wore them whilst pretending to have been to places they had not. The same happens on the Scooter Scene but more so, we had run patches that you should only be able to buy if attending that particular rally but sadly e-bay now gives those who wish to pretend and fib a chance to look like seasoned veterans. We also have repo badges now and you can buy embodied badges from the internet. Badges no longer mean anything. My proud badges are a few RSG ones and a couple of Keele ones, I have a sack full of Scootering ones.
  20. Dante, are you sure you know what you are on about mate? Almost every northern record is 4/4 well explain 6 x 6 Earl Van Dyke or 3 before 8? Kinell. I give up some times, am I the only one on here that knows anything about bleedin Northernsoul?

Blue Rondo A'La Turk - Klacto Vee Sedstein Northernsoul dancin on TV wayyyyyyyy back I remember as a kid watching TV and seeing a fleeting glimpse of lads stomping, not on any Northernsoul program but on their music videos.
