  4. It's a long, long way to Tipperary Not fussed if this aint the right place for this thread but I just want to say a massive shout up to the crew from Ireland who I have met over the last year or so and for the lads n lasses I met for the first time as they traveled over from Tipperary and Dublin to do Radcliff. Top geezers, top tunes and to humor. It was a privilege to party along side you all. I am now inspired to visit Ireland and I look forward to seeing you lot again. I was blown away with the music played and there was one record in particular that I asked little Steve for, he did tell me but I have forgotten it?? Ace to see Silke and Michael
  5. Soul Night needed on the way to stoke please The South Yorkshire Soul Searchers are doing the New Years Party at Stoke, we will be coming from the Barnsley/Sheffield area and we are looking for a "Soul Night" warm up prior to the Nighter, any suggestions/recommendations? We aint interested in doing the "5 4 3 2 1 Happy New Year" thing, we just wanna party like its 1999! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_3rN7Txg48g
  6. My favourite Venue Of 2009 was Middleton in the old building; it was simply perfect with an electric atmosphere. I also love The Blackpool Tower Weekender, Mrs Imber isn't a nighter person but we love to go to Blackpool and amerce ourselves completely into it. Too be perfectly honest, I don't think I have ever been to a bad Nighter?

  10. Soulies needing a hand Christmas is a fantastic time for families and friends but we all know that there is another side as well when we have people on their own, often worried or depressed. Now no one ever likes to ask for help but some times we have to bite the bullet and phone some one just to off load. I have often phoned a mate with problems and found that sharing or just having some one there who doesn't judge me helps. If yer in the shit and the walls are closing in give us a shout, I have no money, no advice and no wisdom, I have got and ear Ring, don't be on your own. My Mobile number is 07877333236 and my land line is 0114 2838923

Marc, behave! It matters not how dark it is, it matters not how slow the youtube clip is and it matters a fig how much vinyl you keep telling us you have, nor does it matter how many names you can drop, ya can't dance and that's final. I officially challenge you to a dance off, bring ya mates!

Uli I have watched these two clips over and over and it looks as if they are all dancing to a different record? Why do they all look like my uncle Norman dancing, slightly embarrassed and definitely stiffer than a stiff thing? Having a Northernsoul scene is one thing but these cats should be able to dance by now? I'm a little fat over weight sweaty little man who can dance spots of these dudes? It's like watching a clip from the film "Footloose" were Kevin Bacon moves to a small town and the kids don't know how to dance. Summits wrong, Its like a Yorkshire pudding that hasn't risen.
  17. Nice to see you back Barry, I know you haven't been feeling too well. True to your self. Not sure if I can discuss this yet? Not too sure who I am, well not 100% of the time? Heavy stuff but honesty I suppose is the first step towards knowing who you are, liking, loving who you are and then being true to your self. I feel that I have constantly evolved and I still have a fair bit to go. When I look back at some of the mistakes I have made and remember some of the people I have hurt I kinda don't like who I was. Very heavy stuff indeed!
  18. Bridgey it was an amazing day out and one to be truly cherished. I will deffo be in da Modurn room in Barnsley, it's a perfect warm up prior to our jaunt across to Maximes in Wigan.
  19. No Modern at the Wheel? Twistin like a wheel it's our history Just been to The Twisted Wheel for the very first time ever! What an experience, this is the mother of all Nighters and it is still here! I asked the DJ in the main room for some Modern, couldn't resist, sorry and you did see the funny side, good on you! Any way, on to a serious matter, The Twisted Wheelers are trying to get as many signatures on a petition towards awarding the club a special heritage sign. This will go towards ensuring this very important building is kept for the futre! Has any one got any more information on this and can we do anything via the net?
  20. Rich B Your girlfriend won't be the first or the last to find reproduction bags and bar towels funny, I'm wearing my bar towel as I type this and it makes me giggle. I too don't think we should think our scene so important it might have helped the civil rights movement - even in this country. It matters not how important we think of our selves, the question is having we had an impact on our society? Did we as a soul scene attribute to a change in thinking? Rich I am not trying to suggest that we have spawned our own Malcolm X; I am asking do you think we changed a flavor? I believe we may not have impacted any thing, impact is a harsh word that smacks of a tangible change, I do think we may have taken the first real tentative and small steps towards tolerance, let me explain my theory. Last night I visited a soul night in Barnsley, I have to use a few clich and stereo typing here so an apology in advance. The room was full of working class men and women who hale from one of England's gritty mining tarns not famous for their cosmopolitan attitudes but here were men, the ones that make your girlfriend chuckle, dancing like Billy Elliot's. There was a freedom of expression that just doesn't make sense in what is a "Red Neck" stronghold, I can see me making a right cake n arse job of this but I will continue aware of the hole I am now digging. In the corner is a visiting crew from The EMSC all are famous faces from the Casino days and all are bedecked in their chosen garb, amongst them is the black face of Carl who has just torn the dance floor up with a move that shouldn't be possible for any one of our age group. No one is flexing any muscles or looking side ways, no one is remotely bothered that a group have traveled and are now dancing and dominating the floor, remember I am stereo typing here and finding it quite difficult to put my thoughts to word. No one seams in the slightest bit phased at this and you must remember that years ago the sight of a wrong colored rose on a Barathea Jacket was the cue for violence. Nothing kicked off why should it? Is it all down to us being more mature and aged like fine wine? Possibly? There is another theory and that is we, as a scene have learned to tolerate traveling groups who are united by the banner of Northernsoul, I may be well and truly off the mark here but I kinda think, hope, suspect that we have done our little part? Any way , yer girlfriends a bitch and you should ditch her before as soon as poss, give me a ring and I'll hook you up with a fine lass from Barnsley who can cook n do stuff and will not be so rude as to you warranting a forum post about her behavior.
  21. Yeah but what about the oil!
  22. Yup the natives were also rolling around in some black sticky yucky stuff called oil, discovering that muck was easy and full credit to em, I kinda give my applause to the man who discovered that same black stuff, when refined, would drive the western world. An idea is easy, the development is the hard part. I by no means want to build any DJ up to some thing they're not but finding unheard records aint particularly hard, introducing them to the dancing public is not just a matter of shouting "Oi, have ya heard this"!
