Ok - let’s start 2024 with a few nice things for today Chet Davenport I cant get over you Toeholt Records £200 Superb modern soul - very slightly different take of the same track by Traffic Jam on the same label (Chet was the lead singer anyway). Really kicks after the intro! M- Jokers Y-ilde Nothing But A Party / Very Special Love Gold Spill £100 Vinyl has some marks. Plays strong with the occasional pop and background crackle. Nothing major - no sustained ticks or anything nasty. VG Geraldine Curry And The Heartstoppers You're So Wonderful London House Records £80 classic mid-paced northern dancer. M- Creators I Can't Believe It's True (Where Did Our Love Go) Coconut Records £70 Condition is G only. The record plays through with out jumps etc but does have a lot of crackles - particularly in the first half of the record. It may benefit from a deep clean. Very rare crossover soul Good (G) Kent Drake Boss Thing Together Wand £65 Wow - this is the kind of record that got me into soul music. 3 mins of mid-tempo soul brilliance. M- Billy Proctor And Love System (I'm Gonna) Chop Down That Oak Tree / Keeping Up With The Joneses Epic £65 Has a minute 'Y' shaped stress line right out on the run off (an I do mean tiny!!). I only mention it as it's a M- grade. Doesn't not affect the record at all. Superb 70's dancer " M- Mary Wells You Lost The Sweetest Boy / What's Easy For Two Is So Hard For One Stateside £65 Plays great - VG++ player. Label has a sticker mark that has been expertly recoloured (see pics). No centre. Looking great in original logo matching company sleeve (sleeve taped). " VG The Drew-Vels Everybody Knows / It's My Time Capitol Records £65 I grade this as EX (light surface marks only). Looking great in original logo matching CAPITOL company sleeve. I always liked this very slick girl group harmonies track by Patti Drew and her two sisters. Very Good Plus (VG+) Curt Darin Two On A Cloud / Grown Up Fairy Tale Buddah Records £65 Vinyl is M-. Record has a stress line which doesn't affect the record at all. Lovely mid-tempo piece" M- Al James Groove City (U.S.A.) / Socka-Ting Big Beat £50 RARE DJ copy M- Hoagy Lands Why Didn't You Let Me Know / Do You Know What Life Is All About Action £55 B side 'do you know' is the main side is an EX (light surface marks only). Tiny paper mark in vinyl causes 6 light pops. A side 'Why don't ' is VG+ with a few more marks. Basically companies that were set up under a scheme to help minority owned business, Mexicans, African American etc, they got start up support and tax breaks.
